The Rajbari Bawali is celebrated by guests for its historical elegance and cultural allure, with live performances and antique-laden decor enhancing its charm. While the rooms are admired for their tasteful decoration and cleanliness, some visitors note size constraints and occasional noise. Despite the hotel's amenities and service receiving accolades for their heritage-meets-modernity appeal and staff responsiveness, a few guests mention missing elements and service hiccups. The location poses challenges with accessibility, and some find the cuisine enjoyable but pricy, questioning the overall value.

The Rajbari hotel was a great surprise to me, I’m not sure what I expected but not this. The building itself is hidden by trees from the front and the front itself is restored cleverly to retain its character and age. Inside is also superbly restored, the interior design is subtle and tasteful. The rooms are either in the main building with terraces or around the gorgeous grounds with views of ponds, trees and flowers. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, great showers, comfortable beds, good linen and towels.
There is so much more to say, food is delicious, the restaurant is a little soulless but no worry we asked for a table on the terrace and so we ate all of our meals there. I think they would have put a table anywhere for us.
The staff were soooo helpful and kind, nothing was too much trouble, Dona was particularly good. The general manager was only there for part of our stay but she was gracious and laid back.
The village and area outside the property is really interesting and attractive we cycled or walked a fair distance in all directions, this was one the highlights of our stay.
I had one of the best massages I’ve ever had.
The swimming pool is large and well maintained, (apart from a few missing tiles) , great outdoor showers.
I was so relaxed after 3 nights here, something I’m only just learning to do for parts of my holiday, this place got me really hooked on the idea...thank you.

We finised off a three week tour of Nagaland and Assam with three nghts at the Rajbari and what an excellent choice it was. The hotel, a former palace has been lovingly and tastefully restored buy the owner. It retains an historic ambience and creates a sense of serenity and the rooms and grounds reveal little details that delight and engage. The food is outstanding and many travel form Kolkata to try the Thali which is superb, filling and like nothing else you will have eaten, a must try. They also offer excellent western cuisine with a decent selection of wine. The staff are superb, friendly and attentive, ready to go the extra mile. The rooms are beautifully presented in a heritage style with nice ensuite bathroom and running hot water. The grounds are lovely and they put on a range of cultural and musical performances in the evenings. A realt treat and well worth the drive from Kolkata.

The Rajbari Bawali is a heritage place in a small village called Bawali in South territory in Kolkata. A must go weekend gateway. When we enter the campus we were overwhelmed with their warm welcome. Ofcourse they have valet parking so you no need to worry about your car. Since we have visited during this COVID time so they followed the protocol to satirize their guest completely. I have seen the to sanitized the entire property every now and then too. We booked Dak Bungalow since we were total 4 adult and 1 child. The Rooms were very spacious and has all the necessary items that you need. In kitchen starting we have Microwave Oven, fridge, induction oven everything. Our check in time was 2 pm but since we reached at 12pm and rooms were ready so they allow us to check in 2 hours prior to actual checking time. The campus is to big and they have well trained and behaved staff all around the property. We choose Jamindari non-veg Thali in our lunch which cost around 1.5k but it’s worth of money. The food were so yummy and tasty and sufficient in quantity too. They served extra on request too. The lunch area is so big and ofcouse they made it even more beautiful with live singing. At evening they organized few event ( folk song, dance, live singing) which made the evening more charming. The entire property was decorated with lights in such a way that you can set that photo as a wallpaper in your mobile or laptop. Their complimentary breakfast was also nice with many varieties. So all together it’s a must go place within city distance. It’s expensive but worthy too. You can say it’s a 5 star category Heritage property within a village.

Thank you Ajay Rawlajee for having Bong and me over. Lest readers get ideas we were allocated two separate rooms!
This is probably our nth visit but there is something new that one gets enthralled by aside of the sheer opulence of The Rajbari Bawali. And this time around it was the rooftop bar done up in a minimalist sense yet very comfortable with the river wind adding to the magic. We were from this rooftop shown the nearby Radha Krishna temples as Bawali seems to be predominantly Vaishnav. The dense greenery was like a carpet that provided a welcome relief to the concrete jungle some 50 kms away.
The next was the 'mangal arti' on the steps of the 'thakur dalan'. Performed by the locals, the son et lumière created with chants from the Bhagvad Gita was perfectly choreographed (without a choreographer) which stirred the divinity within for all present.
The service was provided by genuine human beings (mostly locals) who believe in the word compassion thus giving the age old phrase 'atithi deva bhavo' a new twist to the often used cliche 'service with a smile'. All the training imparted to them by Mrinalinee, the Manger of the property under the watchful eyes of perfectionist Ajay.
One of the reasons I have referred to Ajay's surname as "Rawlajee" as there exists in him a bengali first and a Punjabi later. Quite the charmer across facets, he has perfected the cuisine of both Northern and Eastern India with innovations - one such was the 'bhapa chingri' in addition to the kebabs, pranthas (please take a bow Aunty Promila), kali dal, butter chicken and the kosha mangsho - all executed and served from the heart. Prompted Bong to sit at the dining table as soon as he was called to have dinner.
The whole property has recovered brilliantly from the aftermath of cyclone Amphan and continues to look as if nothing ever touched her. Maybe its a great getaway for those who are looking beyond the Corona V!
in summary, so stately the form, so lovely the face, may the Rajbari continue to win hearts and minds of all who visit.
Cheers Team Rajbari - keep shining!

Booked online and paid Rs. 16048 for a room for a night with an extra bed which is very steep considering the quality of room and the service provided. Room did not have TV or wifi. My booking mentioned extra bed and the requirement was also told at 1pm and after around 6 reminders the extra bed in the room was placed at 4 pm. Toiletries like shaving kit and hair oil is not available. In dinner ordered for a plate of fish curry, a chicken curry and two plates of rice and one ice cream and a plate of rasogolla for dessert and was charged Rs. 3735. Lunch buffet including some entertainment(music and dance) programme and dry colours for Holi (take it or leave it) was priced at Rs.2000 per plate which I thought was steep. Breakfast included in the room charges was average and had to wait for more than 20 minutes to get a place to sit.

The Rajbari Bawali is not only a tribute to old world Bengal but also to a determined family who has made it their livelihood and their life. In an age when "real estate development" brings to mind concrete jungles built on relics of the past, here is a fine example of what can be achieved when a family puts their hearts and minds in recreating a charming yet glorious past. Mr Ajay Rawla, the resident proprietor and a product of Mayo College, has painstakingly built one of the finest boutique hotels of its kinds on the ruins of the mansion of the erstwhile Landlords of the area. The refurbished property is not only a refreshing change just an hour's drive from the city but is replete with refinements. The staff are all from the locality who have been trained by the Rawla family. Credit goes to Mrs Rawla for the menu and the culinary training. The steamed fish in the ginger infused coconut milk sauce draws inspiration from South East Asia and is quite a treat. The large pond is a haven for local fauna. We spotted a water monitor which is locally called a "ghokhro saap". The swimming pool is well maintained and a cold beer is also handy! What is to be appreciated is despite being short staffed and inspite of the buisness taking a severe hit because of the pandemic, the property is maintained immaculately and the service is impeccable. You can always feel the smile behind the masked faces of the staff. The Rawlas interact with their guests giving their hospitality a personal touch. So if you are looking to unwind and yet get in touch with your wild side, head out to the Rajbari Bawali. Cheers.

Classic heritage luxury resort to spend a night. It's 2 hours/40 Kms drive from Kolkata, but entire stretch is either through busy city traffic or narrow congested suburbs roads. Property is very well maintained and on the costlier side. We stayed in 'Zaminder Suite' which was very spacious and equipped with all modern amenities usually available in a 4 start property. Food was good but it resembles hotel/restaurant food more and bengali traditional part is largely missing. People/staffs are OK.
Area of improvement -
1. Service almost collapsed due to heavy rush in the year end
2. Bed could have been little bigger to accommodate family of three (2 adults + 1 kid)
3. Instead of Hindi numbers bengali songs from 50-60-70s and folk songs could support the heritage factor better
4. Waiters should be well aware of the portion size to guide guests better

Rooms have been arranged in such a way that the central courtyard is having sun all the timefor visitors to have photo session. It is an excellant facility. My friend, me with us we have our wives almost approaching 80 years. We have visited all corridors, few rooms from outside excellent. I have faced difficulties to go up and down and felt for a necessity for a handrail on left side. I, not only me, but all the elderly person will feel very happy.

Both break fast and lunch were first class.
yet I have two more suggestions:
1. There is a water body at the back of the Dinning Hall. It has pillars at a distance of around 6 inches. A small child may slip easily. I suggest 16 mm dia dia MS rounds be fixed in pillars at a distance of not more than 4 inches from bottom to top in between pillars. Another suggetion would be to harvest rainwater and rechrge in ground water aquifer not wasting to flow in waterbodies nearby. It will also prevent water logging in the courtyard during heavy rains.
It may be a good idea to utilize solar energy for saving electricity.
Thank you,
Regards
Chittaranjan Haldar

The road to Rajbari is good and a short travel from Kolkata (1.5 hrs). Upon reaching the place you will be greeted with conch shells and drums and welcome drinks. Valet parking is available who will park your car in a nearby open area. Check-in (@2pm officially) is smooth and you will be taken to your room. We booked the classic heritage which is inside the Rajbari structure. Rooms are good, bathroom is big and neat and clean. The corridoor/balcony is big and very well decorated. We got our rooms on first floor which give the nice view of the courtyard. For lunch the y offered Bengali thali (N.Veg) which was contains lot of options from starting from daal, alubhaja to doi and mishti. The food tasted really nice. The property is well maintained which you can roam around in the afternoon or evening. Swimming pool is good and there are cottages on the back side of the Rajbari.
In the evening you can loiter around the various areas in the Rajbari or have Barbeque party at rooftop cafe or just spend time with family or friends in common areas. Dinner had lot of options. Food price was on higher side but it tasted good. We ordered light Chinese dinner given the extravagant lunch we had.
In the morning they have a lavish buffet breakfast by one of the ponds. You can visit a series of temples just outside of the Rajbari after breakfast and then check-out which is @ 12pm.

It was a pleasant experience. Specially a big shout out to the staff. Excellent service.
Both my patents needed wheel chair and they were there whenever needed to help. Food was very good, spice levels well customised. Housekeeping and cleanliness very nice. Over all a pleasant stay and nice experience.

Few suggestions:
1. The property needs to pave all walkways and modify stairways to make it wheel chair friendly.
2. The beds are too high for any old person due to the mattress height. One needs to use a step stool ( with 2 steps) provided to get on to the beds. It’s a big challenge for senior citizens and specially those with disabilities . Would strongly suggest the mattress height be modified to make it easily accessible to senior citizens or those with disabilities.
3. With the kind of per day charge would expect more toiletries in room like brush+ paste, hair dryer, shower cap, loofah scrubber.
4. Food as mentioned above is excellent but prices are really high.
5. Some sit out for Dak Bungalow rooms will make it even more attractive.
