Return To Paradise Resort, winner of the 2019 Supreme Award of Excellence, is on a spectacularly beautiful private beach which was selected for the Hollywood movie Return to Paradise starring Gary Cooper movie 1954. With white sand and a rich coral garden, but just 25 minutes drive on a sealed road from the International Airport, the feeling is of being transported into a Samoan village. The Resort is owned and operated by a large extended Samoan family who have been guardians of this land for hundreds of years which makes it the only larger resort in Samoa that is still in Samoan hands. Selected for Masterchef NZ 2014 and holder of the Prime Minister's Cup for best culinary dish, the international and local team of chefs create world class dishes with a tropical twist. Dine with stunning views in the Rock Pool Bar, or amongst the spectacular carvings of Fine Dining Paradise Kitchen, or by the pools in the Cabana Cafe, and enjoy a range of signature cocktails, all served by an extended family who feel genuine priviledged to serve you. There a wide range of ethical local tours available including swimming with turtles in a secret location, and snorkelling in the village's own giant clam reserve. Open daily for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. Day guests are welcome and may swim at the beach if dining in the restaurants. A romantic and picturesque wedding location with a spectacular marble chapel and a dedicated wedding coordinator. Come as a guest, and leave as a part of the family.

Return to Paradise is a resort that you go to if you want to relax and enjoy the beauty of Samoa. The staff were amazing, always had smiles or their faces and were always happy to help. The entertainment was great, they all had amazing voices and great humour, all items were presented with great heart and enthusiasm. If you are looking for an Asian 5 start hotel experience and cuisine then you may be disappointed but in saying that was quality and choice was more than acceptable. We really enjoyed the island banquet and cuisine on the menu’s. An important point to remember here is this is the only “wholly owned and run resort in Samoa”. They employ staff from the local community and have. Many family and relatives working in the resort. The family atmosphere is very apparent and you become part of their family. The Covid pandemic caused many many issues and Samoa like many other parts of the world is still in recovery. When we were there the resort was having a freshen up for the upcoming season. Our room and facilities were great NO Issues with internet or TV. In other reviews it was mentioned about difficulty in hiring trained staff, this is absolutely the case as many are taking seasonal jobs in New Zealand and Austraila to help their families financially recover. We spoke to 4 who were coming to New Zealand fruit picking, they weren’t looking forward to it as they were going to be away from their families (some had young children). Much respect to them for taking these steps. This opens opportunities for others and the new staff were very open about being new but went out of thier way to do the best they could for you. We had a great time at Return to Paradise and will go back. This is a great spot to relax and recharge. Much love and respect to Ramona and her crew, thank you for your hospitality and love.

Return to paradise is my new happy place. I loved every minute of my stay there and didn’t want to leave! Every single person who works there is so kind, friendly and helpful. Nathan and Mamai were stands out for me and I’m sorry I didn’t get to know more of your names. Ramona the owner would often come round to our table in the evenings and have a chat with us, she is so personable and caring. Yes they may be incredibly under pressure due to being understaffed so food and drinks may take longer to arrive but we quickly adapted to that. But seriously where do you have to be! Just sit back relax and enjoy the sunset, the ocean the warm climate! Embrace Island time! The staff always had a smile on their faces and a friendly word to say no matter how many long hours and days they’ve been working. I really feel for everyone there being so understaffed, they are doing the absolute best they can and doing it well! Fortunately we only encountered one “Karen” while staying here. She obviously wasn’t aware of what a wonderful place she was staying at but hopefully she managed to open her eyes and take in the beauty of the place and realise that her issues were minor. The previous review about the buffet night only offering two curries and rice is simply untrue. There was a great selection of food at the buffet. Maybe this person didn’t have a very adventurous pallet. I had a massage and afterwards I felt like I was floating on air it was incredible! I wanted to take that lady home with me. Also great privacy, my breasts were covered... unlike the previous reviewers….? The concert nights were my absolute favourite and definitely the highlight of my trip. I will remember those nights for the rest of my life. They were so inspiring and entertaining and such an incredible display of their culture and their skills. The fire knives!!! Just amazing! I could honestly write so much more about how incredible this place is, but you’ll have to go and check it out for yourself. Some other honourable mentions were: excellent air conditioning facilities to escape the heat, meticulous daily housekeeping, water filter station and free wifi. I will be back next year and every year after that. Thank you so much Return to Paradise family for helping me discover my new happy place!

Talofa and thank you for your kind review, We are so glad that you found so much to be delighted in during your holiday with us. We are very pleased to be your happy place! Yes it is true that we are having very severe staff shortages as so many Samoans have been sent to NZ and Australia to pick fruit and the overwhelming majority of guests accept this and understand that some food service is a little slow, We are so proud of our staff who perform the two concert nights - the Fia fia Culture group and our fire knife dancers (Wednesday) are both National Champions and so are our Maeva String Band (Saturday nights). We aree glad you are coming back next year and we look forward to welcoming you when you Return to Paradise Alofa tele the Return to Paradise family

I don't usually write reviews. After reading "Not quite what we expected!" comment from an October 2023 stay. I felt I had to say something. My wife and I stayed at Return to Paradise on November 7th & 8th, 2023. We always book at least two nights every trip to Samoa. We try to go to Samoa twice every year. The resort isn't tired or run down. We had a beachfront room. It was huge with one bedroom and a full Kitchen. Any where else it would be called a Suite. As far as the phone not working in my room, I have no idea. It's a short walk to the Lobby where they have huge bottles of water for cheap. The breakfast buffet was awesome & included. I am going to talk to them about cocktail coupons though. I didn't see any of that, and I don't mind going to anywhere on site to get one. We went to the Fiafia night and payed for dinner and the show it was 10 WST ($3.70 USD) more than any of the other 6 shows we saw this trip. It was by far the best show we saw on this trip. There are places on Samoa where you can't swim on the beach, I'm sure the owners can't change that on their beach, it's nice they're looking out for your safety. If you can't catch the vibe you really shouldn't be in Samoa.

Talofa BARCO7 Thank you for your response - it was lovely having you both stay with us. Thank you for returning each time you visit Samoa. You are right, Samoa has its own vibe. Its the best place to come for a holiday for guests who are looking to relax and unwind, Island time is a real thing, our people are the highlight, then our beautiful natural surroundings! We cannot control the moods of the beach - especially now with climate changes but we will provide the most accurate information we can and hope to attract guests who are also interested in preserving the natural beauty of Samoa! Thank you again, until next time Ps - come and see us about a cocktail voucher next time you are here! lol

We just spent a wonderful week at this Samoan owned resort and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We had a beachfront room, which was quite large and had two lovely recliner chairs, comfy bed, and a very large bathroom. The resort is quite large, though there weren’t many people there, unfortunately. The beachfront is gorgeous with a lovely swimming area, though not good to swim at high tide, which was when we used one of the 3 the pools. Two places to eat at night, our fav was the Rockpool Bar with a view over the rocks, ocean and great sunsets, a reasonable menu though not lots of veges. There was an absolutely stand out show on Saturday night with the Maeve String band cultural group that you won’t want to miss! Wednesday night is Fia Fia Night which was another wonderful night to attend. Thursday night is the Return to Paradise Movie, where you learn more about the movie being made where the resort now stands, the actors snd more importantly about the Samoans who were in the movie. The $10 per person is given to the village medical fund so well worth the effort. We took school supplies, which are needed as wages are poor and schools receive very little support. Unfortunately we couldn’t bust the school but we’re happy to leave them for the resort to get to the local school. This resort was the second one in our two week visit, and we can say the staff here were amazing. Friendly, efficient and made you really feel like you were home. In fact they liked a joke with you, which we liked. The resort owners, Ramona and her son Raz were up front and mingled with guests. If there was something I felt could be a bonus would be a handrail into one of the pools, as difficult to get into if you had any disability. This wasn’t only at this resort though, as the other resort we stayed at didn’t have rails either. If you do have mobility issue however the rest of the resort has ramps everywhere! That was wonderful. Even a wheelchair if needed. If going we suggest hiring a car to get around to fill in time or get to many great spots, like the clams and turtles close to the resort, the many Waterfalls, Apia Town, Trench, other beaches etc. Tours can add up! We didn’t and regretted it. The island however isn’t somewhere you’d venture if you have mobility issues on the whole. Waterfalls , most beaches have Rocky outcrops to clamber over for snorkelling, ladders into the trench and the Piualla. Caves as well as Apia are not for the faint of heart or designed for people with mobility issues. Something to think about as it can certainly limit what you do. Thoroughly recommend the resort and glad we had the opportunity to visit Samoa, swim in the crystal clear water of the resorts Sandy beachfront and meet wonderful people. Thank you Ramona, Raz and all the wonderful family and staff who are part of your resort.

Talofa Jendo1961 Thank you so much for your response! Youve given so much helpful information about our weekly programme from our Saturday Maeva show, Wednesday night Fiafia, Thursday village walk and movie (although you werent able to see the children during their exam periods - we look forward to being able to share with them the goodies that are left behind), and so on! Ramona (our Resort Matriach/Mum) also hosts our Wednesday night and Saturday night shows as often as she can - and it is always our intention that our guests are made to feel welcome, but also understand they are contributing to good things done for our people. You are quite right about the handrails for our swimming pools - we do have this on our plans for modificaiton, which we endeavour to do soon! Samoa is not particularly mobility friendly - most beaches have rock/sand only, and even in our Town (Apia) almost all the sidewalks are difficult for wheelchairs, strollers and the like. But this is slowly (island time slowly) improving! Thank you again four your feedback - knowing that youve enjoyed your time with us, our beautiful country, staff and people - is all we could ask for! Kind regards

What an extraordinarily wonderful experience. I am a Granny of multiple grandchildren traveling solo. Not only is the resort a gem but the care of the staff, the attention to detail and the overall ambiance are really quite remarkable. Each person not only knows their job but they take that extra moment to make sure all is well. Not intentionally, I made quite a mistake, having them take me to the airport for a 5:00am flight that actually wasn't that day at all but the next. Even at that wretched hour of the day and throughout the remainder of the day, they were so kind and attentive. Even when it rained non-stop, they were there with umbrellas and gracious support. I want to also note that the shear beauty of Return to Paradise is breathtaking. Samoa should be proud of such an amazing resort.

Talofa 668bethk Thank you for your review! Granny's are dear to our heart - so being able to accommodate you as a solo traveller, and have you enjoy your time with us makes us very proud. We are sorry about the weather when you were with us - we have just come out of quite a wet October and the weather is becoming harder to predict - but we still find the rain beautiful too! its tropical rain and what makes our gardens so lush - we are glad you enjoyed it too! We are very proud of our staff - hospitality is in their genes (as well as amazing dancing and singing!) and we often feel treated every day by their natural abilities. Thank you again, and we hope to see you again one day soon

My husband and I stayed at Return To Paradise Resort in Samoa. The staff were very friendly, but upon arrival there was a big mix up with our room and another couple staying, they were not able to remedy this immediately which created a lot of confusion and meant the other couple's expenses were being charged to our room (this was settled eventually but a bit frustrating)! We could see that once upon a time the resort would have been beautiful. But today it is looking a bit tired, and run down in places. Our room was clean and tidy. However the lamp and phone didn't work, and the pillow cases were torn. The curtain rail was not secured to the wall well and it fell down while were there. The shower base also leaked all over the bathroom floor, and some of the bath towels we were given had stains on them. Because the phone didn't work, reception would knock at our door after 10pm 2-3 visits (when we were in bed) trying to prematurely sort some issues with the rental car. The food was just ok, the buffet breakfast didn't offer a great variety. We were given a couple of vouchers for free cocktails but they wouldn't let us use them at the restaurant only at the bar beside the restaurant (this detail wasn't mentioned on the voucher). We had to pay for one of those cocktails. Water was not easily accessible, as we were told we couldn't drink the tap water and we had to go for a walk to one of their water stations top up our water. They told us that the cultural show was included with our booking, and all we had to do was pay for the buffet dinner. After checking out we realized we had been charged for the show as well. This was disappointing too. Sadly the resort's beach was not suitable for swimming, as there is a very strong rip tide, and big swells. They had someone guarding the beach the entire time to prevent any swimming, which was sensible. But when you go to a tropical resort you do expect to be able to swim :( This resort was very isolated, far away from any pharmacy and quite a drive to many of the islands main attractions. Taxi's are not reliable, and the drivers we had didn't speak or understand much English. This is a Samoan owned and operated, family run resort, they are very proud of what they have created, but they could do with a pair of fresh eyes to raise the standard of the facility they offer. We tried to lean into the positive during our stay, but honestly not the best holiday experience for the investment made! So unfortunately, we wouldn't recommend this resort to our friends and family!

Talofa Play-Fully Thank you for your review. We are disappointed that we fell well short of your expectations for your trip with us. I'm sorry I cant comment on the mix up with charges - including your complimentary show. But please feel free to send me more details directly so I can check this with you. This also includes about the taxi company - as we are happy to share any feedback so we can all improve. There are no excuses for a lamp not working (that would be able to be remedied instantly with a bulb or a new lamp) and so I hope our team were able to instantly remedy issues like this during your stay. Presently we are trying to put a greater emphasis on protecting our environment - so we aim to only use products / chemicals including in our washing that have less negative impact on the environment like some of the bleaches and detergents do. This does mean that our towels may discolour and we are working with suppliers on what products are best. For the complimentary cocktail vouchers - the staff were correct - these were only redeemable at the Rock Pool Bar. But we appreciate your feedback and will trial extending these to the 2 other outlets also. For the drinking water - it is recommended that you do not drink tap water - most of us drink it without problem however we also never recommend doing so. We provide complimentary water bottles upon check in - and have 4 water filter stations around the site. The filter stations are to minimise the single use bottles. We are sorry these were too far a distance from your room. If we add in others this is someting we can also look at again - to ensure each room doesnt have too far to travel. Our beach has 2 distinct moods - and our daily letter provides information on the best and safest time for swimming. There is a strong rip on the left side of the beach and we have signs here to warn guests to not swim in this area. We have a day letter advising of the tide times, and the information boards at reception too. We are looking at moving the tour/activity hut closer to the beach area in the future so there is more beach information there too. But you are quite right - its not a calm beach and we recommend swimming at the recommended times - safety is always first. We are 25mins drive from the airport, and 45mins away from Apia - the main town where most of the pharmacies are located. The closest local supermarket to us is a 15minute drive away but the offerings are localised. If you need medication we do suggest to bring it with you, we sell and provide basic items onsite. We have over 1 kilometre of beachfront and so we coastal based with a distance to travel to most places (although we still consider ourselves a close drive to the Airport) Once again, we really do appreciate your feedback - we agree with the fresh pairs of eyes, and thats exactly what we are doing. There are no excuses for much of what you have raised like a lamp not working, below standard linens, or incorrect charges. We are glad we know about your feedback with the cocktail vouchers - its the first time it has been raised but its a great suggestion to include all the outlets. Also about other areas mentioned - it all helps us to review, and grow. Thank you again

The staff are very friendly and helpful and make you feel like family. Good choice of food as there are 2 restaurants to eat from. The strung band that entertained us was amazing. The guys had voices of angels. This is a Samoan family owned business, and it was lovely that the head of the family greets everybody individually and makes you feel so welcome. The staff are amazing, nothing is a problem and they have the best cuppacino on the island. One of the baristas is the top in Samoa officially! The room was lovely in the garden view. Beach was amazing! Swept daily! Snorkel gear and kayaks are available to use. A big resort with lots of different kinds of accommodation available. As a solo traveller, I felt safe and cared for, and met some amazing staff and guests. Brilliant for families and kids of all ages. Transport to and from airport. Free parking for hire cars, I recommend this resort!

Talofa NanaLulu66 Thank you for your feedback. Our Saturday night live string band (Maeva boys) are defintiely a guest highlight and our favourite too. Our people love to entertain, they are naturally gifted but they also practice alot to perfect their skills. And we also do have the 2023 National champion barista - Suatia. We are so proud of him, he also takes the time to teach his team his skills - but we so far still remains in a league of his own! We are so pleased to hear that you felt safe - its so important as a solo traveller that you feel safe and have your time to be alone, and also have friendly staff (and other wonderful guests!) to enjoy the time together. Thank you again!

Return to paradise felt like returning home! It felt like visiting family. The staff were so amazing and are always willing to do whatever it takes to make your stay comfortable. The snorkelling and swimming at the resort were just outstanding and really made our stay unforgettable. The day tour to the clams and turtles is a must and the resort guides are so knowledgable and were very understanding when I was nervous of the deeper water. The tropical breakfast was just great for the very hot weather and I gauged on all the fresh fruit. The resort lunches and dinners were generous and the sashimi and oka deserve a mention for freshness. We also attended a traditional samoan buffet tonaai( Sunday lunch) and it was just lively to sample samoan food. Cant wait to return to return to paradise! fa'afetai to everyone at the resort for making our vacation so memorable.

Talofa Deanne Thank you for your feedback - its awesome being able to host guests all the way from Johannesburg - and during Rugby world cup time too :) You can probably tell already - we are very proud of our staff! and we are so pleased you were able to feel like you were visiting family - what our people learn in their homes is hospitality and they reflect that in their work (some are exceptionally good at this). And our people love food - we are pleased that you were able to enjoy our local fresh fruit, and our Sunday Island buffet - a typical Samoan Sunday is preparing the food, going to church, having a huge meal... and then resting! and that huge meal should be delicious and enjoyed as a family! We very much look forward to welcoming you back to Paradise again! thank you again for choosing us!

We are a family of 5 adult friends that have just had a holiday in Samoa, at a beautiful tropical resort. The staff and management go out of their way to achieve the best customer service we have ever experienced. Thank you to the many wonderful staff including Danny, Tui and Victoria for looking after us so well along with many others including “Mother of the Resort” and Raz. The food menus were good and varied and includes plenty of local produce. Our rooms were clean and comfortable and only a few minutes from the dining and café areas. The two cultural nights, in the dining area, were exceptional with both cultural and singing entertainment presented. During our visit we took a trip to the Apia markets and a day trip to the waterfalls and trenches. Our “East Side Beaches and Waterfall” trip was exceptional, and our guides, Tupu and Meeka, supplied lots of information about local history and culture. Our farewell chorus of singers and guitars was a memory we will cherish for a long time. A great holiday adventure we would recommend.

Response from Mel Toailoa, Other at Return to Paradise Resort & Spa
Responded 4 weeks ago
Talofa Peter, Jan and friends Thank you for choosing Return to Paradise as your get together time away. We are glad that you were able to experience the wonderful customer service of Dan, Tui & Vicky, as well Raz. Our Wednesday night Fiafia and Saturday night Maeva string band - are always highly recommended and as you can see, our people love to perform! The Eastside and Beaches tour with Tupu and Mika - we find sometimes its nice to have your own adventures, but going on a tour with experts such as those two who love our Country, and Culture and are so wise - takes the experience to a whole other level - even as locals and residents of Samoa - we learn from the likes of these two all the time! Thank you again!
