The Thatch Inn garners praise for its array of amenities, including comfortable lodgings and a wide selection of quality food. The hotel exudes a welcoming atmosphere within its characterful old edifice, complemented by clean and cozy rooms, although some guests noted they are on the smaller side. While the service is generally lauded for being friendly and attentive, there have been occasional inconsistencies reported. Visitors comment on the overall cleanliness, yet opinions on value show a divide, with some finding the offerings well-priced, whereas others view them as overpriced.

I stayed here with my daughter. The hotel is set within a quaint Tudor-looking pub and the reception is the bar which felt a bit strange but was quick & easy to check in. The room was set through a dining area which again felt strange as there was a big family event happening at the time although there was an outside entrance to avoid interrupting again. The outside entrance led to their big car park.
The room was small but adequate and consisted of a small double bed with bedside tables in cupboard form. There was also a corner dressing table with stool that had a cupboard one side and 3-drawers the other side with a connecting vanity drawer. On top of this dressing table was tea/coffee/ hot chocolate facilities, information about the room/hotel/local area/ useful & emergency numbers and a small flat screen TV but no mirror which was odd for a dressing table. There was also a single wardrobe. The windows have frosted glass so no views to see.
The bathroom was small with just a single sink, a toilet, a large mirror and a narrow shower but with a great power shower that has 3 different settings.
The bar area has a wooden theme with wooden ceiling beams and was split into 2 sections, 1 at the back of the bar and 1 in front. At the back was a large wooden table for 12 people and a couple of smaller tables. There was a large log fire and boards games to give a homely feel. At the front was smaller wooden tables and have a lovely country feel.
Breakfast consisted of toast, cold meats & cheese, cereals and juices which you helped yourself to and there was cooked hot food available too but as we asked for the 1st sitting of the morning and the chef was running late we had to leave before receiving it. They were very apologetic and refunded the money for breakfast so I was happy with that.

Room was small but we booked cheaper room as only for 1 night, looked freshly painted and new furniture what let this down was carpet very stained, found long black hair on toilet cistern and no hand wash.
Booked in for evening meal bar drinks are little pricey, ordered steak & ale pie it’s not homemade and gravy was very salty and pulled brisket barm would have been nice if had been hot and frozen chips, if you have to use frozen should be of good quality and cooked well these weren’t and presentation was bad the price didn’t reflect the quality.
Breakfast although you had to pre-order and choose time we waited over half an hour, bacon was streaky which should say before as many don’t like that sort of bacon so mine was left, breakfast was ok but not of good quality which if within room price it’s ok but if bought separately at £12.50 a head I would have been quite annoyed.
You get what you pay for so b&b price is ok but all reviews rated restaurant very good I would disagree with that but what makes the thatch inn is the amazing hard working friendly staff I hope the management realise how lucky they are to have such good staff..

Dear ej1williamson, Taking the time to leave a review is very much appreciated, thank you. With the extra measures required of us due to Covid-19, toiletries, tea & coffee are made available at check in for our guests. I’m sorry that a hair was found on the cistern, especially as we normally deliver exceptional cleanliness for our guests. I was unable to locate the stain you refer to when seeing the review, having checked the entire room but have asked the team to be mindful of such things. Whilst we make the vast majority of the food at the Thatch Inn, we do make a point on the menu that the Pies are ‘Tom’s’ Pies and receive positive feedback regarding to them ordinarily. After trialling several chips, we decided upon a product that we felt offered the best quality and don’t ever make a decision on price alone. In fact, it is one of the most expensive on the market but we feel worth it. I’m sorry that it appears they weren’t cooked enough for you this time. Breakfast is pre ordered with a list of all the available items, including the streaky bacon. The time for breakfast is the arrival time and then a suitable period is allowed for the customers to enjoy their toast, cereals, tea or coffee and yoghurts before serving the cooked breakfast. We have amended the order form now so that guests can request everything at the same time if that is their preference. I’m pleased to see that you rate the team, as indeed I do too. We all work hard to create the best visit possible and always appreciate feedback from our guests so that we might learn and deliver a better experience. Thank you again for taking the time to give some feedback for us. Regards Marc

There are no disabled parking spaces in the grounds of this old Inn. I forewarned them that I was disabled, so they put me in a room at the top of the stairs and as far away from the entrance as possible. This old Inn oozes charm and character. Part of it dates back to 1350. However, the rooms are in an adjoining modern block. My room was small, completely white and had the feeling of a sanitised private hospital room. Breakfast was superb and the staff were friendly, helpful and lovely.

Thank you for the feedback 718treforj, It’s great to read that you thought the breakfast and staff to be superb. When you emailed letting us know you were disabled, we did reply asking what requirements you might have in order that we might be able to better accommodate your stay. We didn’t hear back from you. Given that disability can take many different forms, it would always help if we know how we might accommodate a guest better, making the stay more enjoyable for you, our guest. The room we booked you in was one of the closest to the undercover car port entrance, with the shortest distance to cover to a room from a car. We have a limited number of ground floor rooms for those who have difficulty with stairs but of course, giving as much notice as possible helps us find the best room for each particular booking. As the large open car park is gravelled, it’s not really possible to create such disabled spacing without perhaps creating a hazard in it’s own right. One end of the car park is closest to the rooms and the other closest to the bar, so we are only to pleased to help any guest with unloading or the carrying of luggage. I’m sorry that the décor wasn’t to your taste. The grey we use has actually had quite a lot of positive feedback from other guests but I totally understand personal taste meant it wasn’t quite your cup of tea. Regards Marc

Cons-
● Restaurent was booked up

Dear Rosie, Thank you for the review. Apologies for the delay in getting a response to you. We offer three categories of room from a small double, to a standard double and also a large double. There’s an option for every taste and budget. Thank you for the comments regarding breakfast and the staff, it’s good to see them recognised for their efforts. With the eat out to help out scheme, all available tables were booked quite some time ahead so it did mean that we were unable to offer tables to residents unless they had pre booked on our website. At check in, it should have been made clear that housekeeping staff were not allowed to enter occupied guest rooms and that towels placed outside the door would be replaced with clean. I’m sorry if this didn’t happen on this occasion. We have changed our pre stay emails t make sure this is communicated prior to guests arriving now. The car park is a free car park for all our guests and because of the size, rarely fills to capacity. The huge numbers of diners on the eat out scheme meant that some days, it filled quickly. It's great to read that you would stay here again, and I hope that we might see you again soon in the not too distant future. Regards Marc

Always a little dubious about staying somewhere for £45 a night, but wow! Chocolate bow looking building with lots of character and spacious car park.

Check in:

we arrived at 2pm and check in was supposed to be 5pm, however a member of staff called Victoria happily checked us in early as the room was ready and was no trouble for her at all, she also seemed to be running everywhere sorting other chores too, she explained about the safety aspect of covid precautions they have in place and was very satisfying knowing that we were in safe hands. She also showed us to the room and if we needed anything, just to ask.

Room:

We had room 6, which was a small double and looked as if newly refurbished, lovely room with everything needed, modern and a nice little bathroom with shower. The bed was super comfy with nice memory foam pillows.

Evening Meal:

Me and my wife booked a table for two, and glad we did as fully booked. We both opted for steak and was one of the best steaks we have had, cooked exactly to our order and so tender. The lady that took our order was victoria, who checked us in earlier. The meal was served to us by another lady called Carol, she was very polite and could have laugh with her, which made it a good experience.
We were also served by another young lady and wish I had taken her name too as she also was extremely pleasant and hard working on the night.

Drinks:

The service was a safe service, as the order was taken and paid for at a collection point, then Victoria would wave for our attention in the beer garden when ready for collect. Seemed to have worked really well considering how rushed of their feet they were.

Breakfast:

We booked our table for 9am and filled out our breakfast requirements the evening before. We arrived for breakfast bang on 9am and greeted by Carol, who showed us to our table and brought out our coffee and juice whilst we waited for our breakfast. The breakfast was a few minutes and was served fresh rather than buffet due to covid regulations. The food was hot, tasty and plenty of it. Egg was cooked perfectly and tasted like quality ingredients, so would also like to thank the chef for his efforts.

Staff:

All staff were extremely busy at all times, however never failed to deliver high levels of customer service with constant smiles. Nothing was any trouble.
Victoria, Carol and the other young lady (wish I took her name) were the only staff there during our stay and they managed all situations like clockwork.
They were checking guests in and out of the hotel, running the bar, running the restaurant and running. drinks out to the beer garden.

The management/owners of the business should be proud to have such a dedicated team, you can have the best hotel and restaurant, but in my eyes, it's the staff that make the impression, and they did. Ten fold!

Well done team from Mr and Mrs jarratt x

Thank you Mr & Mrs Jarratt for such wonderful feedback. The rooms are all very recently refurbished from the ground up and it’s good to read that they meet with your approval. Vickie, Viki and Carole will be delighted to read of your praise for them that Wednesday. The team here work so very hard to deliver a memorable experience to our guests, especially at these very challenging times. Most of our customers, like yourselves are very understanding of the extra work involved to comply with current regulations and to keep both the team and our customers safe. We have to provide this service whilst making sure our room rates are very competitive and our food and beverage offer is seen as value for money. We feel that the balance is pretty much mostly right. I'm pleased that we pleasantly surprised you. It would be wonderful to thank you in person, so when you come to stay with us again, please let me know so that I can introduce myself at check in. Thank you again for such lovely comments. Regards Marc

Stayed here last night. Drinks I felt were a bit pricy - for a double gin and double rum it came to £16. For a single of each it came to £10.
Food was insane. My boyfriend had the beef pie and I had the mushroom and spinach - I’m not normally one for pies but this was just so good. 100% recommend the food. The poor girl last night was run off her feet. She was the only one serving, so she was taking orders from a full restaurant, bringing their food and drink, then doing check ins and making calls. I felt for her. She was a superstar. She also let us check in half hour early as our room was ready.
Room - beautiful. Just been renovated. However the walls are extremely thin, we heard people shouting and talking until early hours and heard someone’s iPhone alarm go off at 7 haha. Plus we are in room 12 and there’s a generator kind of thing outside our room which goes on and off. This is quite loud. The bed is sooo comfy. However we both have bad necks from the pillows as these were quite hard and puffed up. We both resulted in moving to the decorative pillows at around 5:30am.

I would 100% come back here. Gorgeous find.

Thank you for leaving feedback for us mads5123, I am sorry for the delay in getting a response to this feedback. There have been huge challenges since reopening, as you might imagine and I'm afraid that I have fallen behind with my responses on tripadvisor. I’m sorry that you felt the drinks to be ‘pricey’. The prices are at the same point to similar style properties in the area. I believe the price you mention must also include fevertree mixers or minerals, as I can't get the totals to match the actual selling prices. I’m delighted that the food was enjoyed. We use ‘Tom’s Pies’ having found consistently good quality and they are certainly enjoyed but all those who order them. All the team work very hard, including the two on duty that evening. There are additional challenges to service with restrictions in place and the team have stepped up to meet this challenge, albeit with some lessons that we have all had to learn along the way. I hope that you might come and see us again soon. Regards Marc

The Thatch Inn is a breath of fresh air in the mass of pop up chain pubs. The food is amazing and their Sunday roast is one of the best I’ve had. This is what an authentic pub should feel like with its low ceilings and proper wooden beams and great local beers.

The staff are very friendly and nothing is ever too much bother and you are always greeted with a smile.

This is the only place we take friends and family, we are proud to call this pub our local.

If you want a family friendly pub, The Thatch Inn is the place to come.

Thank you for taking the time to leave such lovely feedback for us Megan. It was hugely important to us that the Thatch Inn is a ‘real’ pub, for drinkers as well as diners and had a custom based upon people from all walks of life. The atmosphere is created by you, the customer and that’s what makes us so special I believe. It’s so wonderful to read that the Thatch Inn is the only place you take friends and family and I know the team will be delighted to know of their recognition. I very much look forward to a long and enjoyable relationship and hope we find many more friends together at the Thatch Inn. Regards Marc

7 of us visited on 20.03.22 for a 40th Wedding Anniversary lunch and it was perfect. The welcome was friendly and warm. The lunches - a mixture of various roasts and other items from the menu were all delicious and delivered on piping hot plates. The service completely added to a wonderful afternoon. Carol in particular, went the extra mile. She had spoken to my son who had phoned from Australia earlier in the week to arrange for 2 x bottles of bubbly to be sent to the table with his and my daughter-in-laws love in their absence. Carol, in her own time and at her own expense, went and purchased a Ruby Wedding Anniversary card so she could put it with the bottles of bubbly on the table. This is service over and above. I can only highly recommend a visit to this fabulous restaurant and bar. By the way they have rooms where you can stay overnight too!

Stayed here on Saturday night for a cheap last minute night away. We checked in and went to our room only to discover it hadn't been cleaned from the previous guests. We went back to advise the guy who had checked us in who was very apologetic however with everything going on at the moment it does shock me that they wouldn't of known this room hadnt been cleaned its not a massive hotel. We sat and had a drink whilst the room was cleaned and realised just how hard the staff worked. There was an older gentleman and a young girl & they were doing everything, checking people in, serving drinks, taking orders & serving the food. When we final got to the room it was OK, extremely small but we didn't pay a fortune so wasn't expecting much. We didn't eat or drink as it was made clear they were extremely busy that evening so chose to go elsewhere. Got back to the hotel and went to sleep to be woken up by an extremely vocal couple in a room nearby so needless to say it was a very disturbed sleep. Breakfast was all pre ordered again it wasn't great but the poor girl from the previous night was now serving breakfast on her own and when I checked out she was then doing the cleaning. I wouldn't return here but the manager needs to be grateful for such great, hard working staff, without them it would of been a 1 star review.

Dear Kim2556, My apologies for the late response to your review. You are quite right in that you should not have been given a key to an unserviced room and I apologise for this error. Retraining has taken place to remedy this issue. The small double option booked is the smallest category of room we sell but other options are available. The Thatch Inn has enjoyed a very busy and quite frankly unexpected period of time since reopening after lockdown. Additional measures required of us have meant some challenges along the way, as there have been for all businesses. We have had to learn to operate in a very different world, with more restrictions, regulation and without any experience of similar to call upon. Mistakes have certainly been made and lessons learnt. Breakfast was served by two staff on your visit, but Carole is smaller and perhaps missed easily. As the Chef Manager at present, I am fully aware of just how hard the team work and I can assure you that they are aware of just how much their efforts are appreciated. Thank you again for the feedback regarding your visit. Regards Marc

We booked 2 rooms at the thatch in as we was attending a wedding at Elmore court , the hotel was a perfect location for attending a wedding as the taxi ride was about 7 mins ( taxi was quite expensive for this short journey) The hotel it’s self looked so lovely from the outside , just what you would expect from a hotel in the Cotswolds.

When we checked in my sister and her boyfriend had a room downstairs - room number 1 and unfortunately was met with a very strong sewage smell , we informed reception about this and was told they would send someone in to have a look , sadly all they could do was spray some air freshener and put something down the loo , as there was no other rooms available they was left to deal with the smell. Our room upstairs was cute , there were some strange smells in the corridor but not to bad. Our room was perfect for the two nights we stayed but we did have a loud fan noise outside the window so if you can’t sleep with noises maybe keep the window shut.

We ate dinner and breakfast at the hotel, we couldn’t fault the dinner food was fab and also credit to the young guy working at the bar he provided great service! Breakfast was okay but very overpriced , £15 was the set price for the entire menu that could be £15 for a sausage sandwich or £15 for a fry up, if you wanted to order an extra breakfast you had to pay the additional £15! The food was good but there also was a few issues with the kitchen that day with issues made with the breakfast but nothing to major.

Overall the hotel was cute and cosy , but just needs a few tweaks to make it better!

Dear Shannon Flegg, Thank you for taking the time to leave some feedback. The issue with your room of your sister has been addressed in their tripadvisor post. I'm delighted that you thought the room to be perfect for the two nights that you stayed. I haven't received any comment regarding a fan before, but will monitor comments and feedback to see if this is something we need to address. It's great to read that you thought the dinner to be fab. We have endeavoured to keep our policy on breakfast charging simple. If you book your room directly with the hotel or on our website, breakfast is complimentary and fully inclusive of the buffet and cooked breakfast. It is very rare that the ‘have what you wish’ approach is abused by guests. If you do not prebook our standard charge is £15 for unlimited use of the buffet and a freshly cooked breakfast of your liking which we consider good value for what is on offer With regards to taxis, it's probably always best to pre book and get a price from them for the journey. Unfortunately, we don't have any control of their charges and have three or four companies that we hand out cards for (with no commission or favours in return). I hope that we might see you again at some point. Regards Marc

Our bar closing times are set around the demand we see. 10pm closing apart from Friday and Saturdays, which is 10.30pm. The times were moved to these hours when we realised we weren't seeing people after this time. We have these hours posted on our website and door, and will review them as and when there is sufficient trade to make it cost effective to do so. It is always worthwhile speaking with us directly for any questions or queries.

What kind of beers and larger do you seve?
Answer from ThatchManager
Quedgeley, United Kingdom
We serve two real ales that change weekly. We have Pravha lager, Staropramen Lager and Sharps Offshore Lager. Ciders are Harry Sparrow and Thatchers Haze. We also keep Guinness and a great selection of Bottles and spirits. This answer is based upon our current offer and with a bar refurbishment next year, will increase substantially. I hope this is of help. Regards Marc
