We just spent 5 nights at Excellence and it was a great trip. We were there to celebrate my wife's birthday and a postponed 15th wedding anniversary. As we arrived we were greated by Diego just like 5 years ago. He provided a tour of the resort and our room. He is one of our favorites. The weather was great, the main pool and the Excellence Club pool in front of building #8 were great, and our time at the Excellence Club beach was great. We also enjoyed both the hydrotherapy and the couple's massage at the Mille Spa. This resort is very nice but the level of service is what makes it special and separates Excellence Playa Mujeres from the rest. Cesar and Armando at the Martini bar are the best in the business. Francisco at the outside bar was happy to see us every time we walked by and always greeted us with a smile. Floricel catered to every drink and food need at both the Main and Excellence Club pools. This guy works harder than anyone I have ever witnessed. Emilio at the Excellence Club pool area also insured we were well taken care of and is a great guy. Armando the Concierge at building #7 made my wife's birthday and our entire trip special. He constantly asked me throughout our entire trip if there was anything else he could do to make our stay even better. Finally, Ruben who is responsible for bars and probably much more, runs a tight crew of personnel, but is very professional and personable. All of the individuals mentioned above do the best job of making you feel special during your stay. They each sincerely care about their jobs, the success of the resort, and your experience. Any service industry business model in the US with these guys involved would be exponentially successful. As far as restaurants are concerned, we enjoyed Basmati. My wife's favorite restaurant is Agave where Ricardo made our experience great, (the pork shoulder was very good) and my overall favorite was the Excellence Club restaurant Magna. The cauliflower soup is great, (it takes a lot for me to admit this) and the Ribeye is the best steak at the resort. The food truck was a pleasant surprise with their sausage dog wrapped in bacon, I enjoyed ice cream each day from Aroma, and the Surf and Turf at the Lobster House was so good my only regret is that I didn't order two servings. As a side note, the silent disco is a must. If you haven't experienced this, you will be thoroughly entertained. I typically don't give 5 stars unless you deserve it. Excellence Playa Mujeres deserves it. I probably left some people out that made our trip special, but the individuals mentioned above definitely went above and beyond during every interaction. Thank you to the entire staff for a wonderful experience!!!…
With 2020 being such a difficult year, my wife and I took the chance to go to Mexico and stay at Excellence Playa Mujeres. We had an absolutely fabulous time. Sensitive to Covid, the resort was spotless and quite beautiful. The service of the staff was outstanding- a friendly smile and hello from the gardener, to the mechanic, to the maid, to the food servers. All were warm, friendly and exceptionally hardworking. We have to be many resorts in Mexico where the Mexican work ethic was prevalent but none as so warm and friendly. As for the Carribean, good luck finding such hard working staff. We became regulars with Ricardo, the yoga instructor, who prior to never got much out of Yoga. Nothing better than doing yoga looking out at the ocean. Another highlight was having a cocktail session with Cesar, a man of great talents. Our butler Carlos pulled out the stops to have our stay run as smooth as possible. We even met up with Pablo, the general manager of the resort, who is challenged with running everything despite the Covid restrictions and limitations. Never was a trip to Mexico more needed and never did we have such a wonderful time at the Excellence Playa Mujera.…

Food was good with plenty of options. The resort was very well maintained and staff was super nice. Drinks from the bar were a little on the weak side. Pools and hot tubs were cold. We complained about the hot tubs multiple times and on the fourth day they finally turned them up enough to get in. I don't believe any of the pools are heated. Overall a nice resort and fun time.
We stayed at EPM 1/15 – 1/22 for our honeymoon. This was our first trip to EPM, and we definitely understand why there are so many great reviews about this resort and why people return. Full review below. Weather We were very lucky with the weather during our trip in January. Temp was mostly 70-80 degrees Fahrenheit high. Partly cloudy to mostly sunny. One day was mostly cloudy, but still very comfortable to lounge by the pool. It rained for one evening, but the rain didn’t last long and was mostly just a drizzle. Pools are cold in January, but there’s 2 EC pools that are heated. Room We booked an Excellence Club (EC) swim-up room. We were in building 9A. We loved this location as we were close to the Sol bar and the beach. The BEST part of a swim-up room (especially one closer to a bar) is the cocktail service! Each day that we lounged on our patio bed, a waiter/waitress would come around and offer us drinks/cocktails. Heaven! There is less patio privacy with a swim-up room, but the drink service more than made up for that. Room bed was comfortable with medium firmness. A/C worked well. Shower was amazing with the rainfall head. We used the Jacuzzi tub NIGHTLY. EC mini-bar had Jack Daniels whiskey, Sky vodka, tequila, Jamaican rum, and a red wine. Food/Drinks/Bars Restaurants were VERY good for an all-inclusive, and there’s a good variety of cuisines available. We ate at Toscana buffet daily for breakfast as we wanted mimosas, screw drivers (plus refills) along with our omelet. We ate at Spice 3 nights for dinner since we LOVE sushi. The sushi rolls at Spice are OK, but the sashimi and nigiri sushi were great. We also found the entrees just OK, which is why we stuck with the sushi. We ate at Chez for 2 nights. Chez was a great place for a romantic dinner. We ate at Magna for one night and found the menu/service/ambience similar to Chez. Restaurants have dress codes, which we prepared for and didn’t mind as they helped keep the fancier restaurants more in keeping w/ the romantic ambience. We frequented the Sol brick-oven pizza bar daily for lunch. There’s SO many options for food, and we didn’t try even HALF of what’s available, which is all the more reason to come back! Gluten-Free My husband has non-Celiac gluten-sensitivity, and EPM’s dedication to a GF menu was a big factor on why we chose this resort. Each restaurant has GF items marked on the menu and the host/hostess will ask if any food allergies prior to seating. Room service and bartenders will also ask you if any food allergies. Sol bar had GF pizza (not listed on menu), and room service has GF bread/pasta available (also not on menu). GF beer was listed on the Sports Bar menu but was not in-stock. Resort had Strongbow Honey hard cider, which we requested to be stocked in our mini-bar (and they did!). Room service made special GF French fries in a separate fryer oil. Every restaurant worker was so great and accommodating, and I’m sure they would be willing to work you if a specific menu item can be made GF too. Entertainment/Nightlife There’s daytime and nightly entertainment offered, usually a live band/singer and a show at night. Loved the reggae band by the main pool! Honestly, every band/singer we watched were talented. The Fire Dancers show is A MUST. This was definitely a show we would pay extra $$ to see. Silent party was entertaining to people-watch and a smart way to have club/dancing music late night without bothering guests in their rooms. Overall, EPM had a well-balanced nightlife. It’s not the party-until-3 AM type of resort, but it’s also not boring at night if you want to enjoy some music and dancing. Spa Hydrotherapy was included with EC, and I highly recommend it. We looked up videos online so we knew what to expect. Men who don’t want back/body massages would enjoy the hydrotherapy. A head/neck/scalp massage was included in our Honeymoon EC package, which we were glad we didn’t skip. It was very relaxing. Safety We felt very safe at this resort during pandemic times. Staff members were respectful about keeping their distance. They wore lower face shields (not face masks), but we felt that they adequately kept their distance so we didn’t feel uncomfortable. Hand sanitizers are everywhere, and small details like a TV remote kept in zip-plastic bag show they care about cleanliness. The resort space is so large that it’s very easy to avoid others and social distance. Most restaurants offer outdoor dining. There’s also a room-service box in each room if you really want contactless room service delivery. The following EPM staff members deserve KUDOS and made our trip even MORE amazing: Zuri (building 9 concierge). She definitely sets the bar HIGH on what to expect from a concierge. She rounded on us daily, making sure we had everything we need. Emilio and Marlon (pool concierge). They set up our patio bed with fresh towels and frequently rounded on us. Marlon even helped make a special sand-art goodbye surprise on our last day! Andres (Toscana waiter) – We sat in his section daily at the Toscana buffet. Andres always had a positive, smiling attitude, and he always made sure we had enough vodka OJ’s and mimosas! Francisco (Poolside waiter) – Franciso was our pool-side waiter on our first full day at EPM. He made SUCH a great impression that we were sad he wasn’t in our section the following days. Franciso made sure our cocktail glasses did NOT run empty! David and Yessica (Poolside waiter/waitress) – great poolside service! They constantly rounded on us while we were lounging on our swim-up bed. Sergio (Spice waiter) – we told him we loved Sushi, and he came back with a surprise Chef’s choice sushi-platter (GF for my husband). He also offered to get crème brulee from the nearby restaurant as it was GF. Amazing service! Raul (Chez waiter) – Great upbeat attitude and very efficient! Nelson (Food and Beverages Manager) – Nelson rounded on us twice during our trip to make sure my husband and his GF allergy needs were met. He answered my questions about GF options in the room service menu, and he found GF hard cider to replace the beer in our mini fridge. Thank you for being so attentive to food allergies (which can be very stressful while on a vacation in a different country). The beautiful resort, the dining, the entertainment, and the level of service from amazing staff members are all reasons why we will DEFINITELY come back to this resort.…
