The Catalonia Costa Mujeres resort was amazing and I highly recommend to everyone. If you can book as Exclusive as you have added bonuses and options. See full breakdown below of things I saw and noticed while I was there on the week long vacation. (November 2021) CHECK IN: Upon arrival the bellboy will take you bags and wait for you to check in. You will then find your bellboy and tell him what room you got so they can take your bags there. The check in is easy and they just ask you to fill out a few details on their tablet. The resort has 4 buildings with the keycards being the bracelets that are attached to your wrist. The buildings create 3 roads leading down towards the beach. LAYOUT: The centre street is referred to as Fifth Avenue and has most of your food choices, shops and services. Each of the outside streets have a pool, the one on the left facing the beach has a ton of chairs and cabanas with the pool bar called the “Margarita Bar”. The bar has only a pool entrance. On the pool deck closest to the beach you will have your towel service desk where you can get a beach/pool towel at any time you like. The towel service is amazing and unlike other resorts they don’t shame you for needing another one. The old ones can be left at the pool or leave them in your room for room service. The street on the far right facing the beech has a bar called BarBQ, it has a pool and deck entrance. Beside the pool deck at the beach side you will also find a good cart selling fish and shrimp tacos and French fries. ROOM: The rooms are large with a full walk in closet. The room includes a coffee machine, safe, iron and board, hair blower, extra pillow and a warm blanket. If you need another blanket you can dial 0 and ask. At the door you will see 2 buttons that correspond to a light outside the door. One is to ask for room service and the other is a do not disturb option. If you have both on the do not disturb will win. PCR TESTING: PCR testing on site including the option for an antigen test. As Canada does not take it we could only do PCR. Process is easy and you can pay online or in cash. $80USD or $120CAD per person. You can pay $1800PES if you want too. It is a mouth swab and you get the results the next day in 24hrs. Very friendly staff. The service is located behind the cafe there will be signs everywhere pointing towards it. BUFFET: located in the right side of the lobby building. Entrance is not connected to the lobby but rather on the outside. It is open 3 times per day, once for breakfast, lunch and dinner. To enter simply wear a mask and give them your room number. There are 3 stations as you come in and a whole lot more when you look right. The far right corner of the buffet is reserved for kids and has child sizes bar so kids can help them selves. Come to breakfast early to avoid line ups. The far right of the buffer has a kids sized buffet bar with all their favourite items. Including kids sized tables. Ask for a high chair for toddlers. Only regular coffee is served at the buffet in the morning. Might bring you tea if you ask nicely. Joshua at the dinner buffet will offer you strong drinks. Take them (Scooby Doo and Tequila Boom). Only one breakfast spot open unless you are travelling Exclusive. INJURY: I recommend for people to bring their own first aid kit. A simple one with band aids at least. They will call a life guard as the front desk does not have any band aids or any other items. It will take forever. I just looked stupid when the guy came with a whole kit. KIDS/TEENS: Building number 1 has a kids club with a service to take care of young children full of activities. I don’t have kids yet so I never looked into it. Kids also enjoy live music beside the lobby at around 8:30PM. They spend the time dancing and have a ton of fun. At 9:30 there is a show that starts in the theatre to the left and behind the cafe. The second floor right on top of the cafe has a teen space with video games, pool table, table tennis, chess, board games, tv shows. Kids and teens of any age could enjoy it. Computer area to the left of front desk. Chalk wall for kids beside the internet area. SHOPPING: Fifth avenue has amazing stores, one has snacks, others clothes, another has souvenirs. Keep money on your debit or credit in order to shop as they do not take cash. Exchange cash at your local bank - expensive exchange. Exchange closed on Sunday and Thursday. Exchange closes at 3ish daily so exchange first thing in the morning. CAFE: Cafe opens at 10am and rinds until 5pm. Lobby bar has coffee so order there after the caffe closes at 5pm. The staff are SUPER friendly and you should tip them as they do a fantastic job. Try the chocolate tart, I miss it so much. The Frappuccino is bitter, you should ask them to add extra chocolate or add sugar. They will give you a spoon if you as for it, they have a bin full. THE GRILL: Come early, some line ups go up to an hour and a half. Meat temperature doesn’t match what you ask for some times. Amazing mashed potatoes. They offer you a welcome drink for joining them. Located above the creperie up the stairs on the pool side. RESTAURANTS: All restaurants and services including PCR is run on QR codes. The check in desk will give you a card with a QR code. Don’t loose it, that has all restaurant menus, restaurant hours, maps and activity schedules. Very important. SUNWING USERS: If travelling with Sunwing like we did go for the complimentary Shopping tour, we were taken to a jewelry store and tequila tasting after which we got 2.5 hours free at Playa Del Carmen. Totally worth it. OTHER: - Wifi is amazing. Covers the whole resort including most of the beach. - Three Dinner locations plus Buffet. All other are lunch spots. - The whole resort is wheelchair accessible. - Tip room service well - they will be very good to you. Rooms don’t have snacks so keep money on credit card or debit card to buy at the resort shop (on Fifth Avenue). - Do not fall for the private tour of exclusive part of hotel. They will take you away from your vacation for hours. However go if you are looking for coupons off spa and shopping at the resort. - Far right building at the beach has kayaks and private catamarans. Free for both of you know how to use it. - Bathrooms located beside the check in desk on the left. All bathroom lights turn on automatically when you enter. I freaked out the first time since I could find the switch. Give them a second. Bathrooms are very clean. *****If you have more questions find me on Instagram as @themashka or email me at mariayasnitsky@gmail.com *****

We stayed here Nov. 21-25, the resort is only 3 years old and in great shape. Lots of friendly, attentive staff! The room/suite was large and had everything we needed. The grounds/landscaping were just gorgeous. The pools was spotless, and the beach was clean. The food was ok, similar to a cruise ship. Lots of options. The restaurants were very clean-all food service employees had crisp uniforms with hair pull back and hair nets on. Bar service was great.

We loved our stay at this hotel. My 3 sisters, best girlfriend and I had a really nice time. Nice beach, good food and plenty of tequilas!!! Our best time is at Adelita with Marcos May and Jorge De La Cruz. They really took care of us and made my baby sister’s birthday dinner so memorable. A special thanks to Jesus Torres, Maria Diego and Juan Mendez at the Buffet and Toscana, they have also made our stay beyond incredible.

Good hotel - nice food and variety of restaurants, super friendly restaurant and bar staff. However I really resent staying in a hotel and being approached by staff members having a seemingly nice conversation with but actually they were trying to get us to sign up to the exclusive club and go to a talk. I was felt harassed to go and even had my room called to ensure I went. I wasted an hour and half of my holiday at a presentation and breakfast I wasn’t interested in. I then spent the rest of the time avoiding any staff member that approached us with the same intent to get us to buy into the exclusive club or time share. If Catalonia hotels are so interested in signing people up, they should have a stand or podium to one side where you have a choice to find out more. I also think the hotel could have more information clearly available to find out what time the bars open/close - that they close early on a Sunday, what shows are on at the theatre each evening, what bands are on and at what time etc it just wasn’t clear anywhere and so we missed things we would have enjoyed going to or caught at the end. Otherwise good rooms, food, service and beach area.

We loved to stay at the Catalonia. We traveled the first time with our almost 1 year old son and this hotel was an absolute oasis to us. The place was new, clean, and welcoming but the food was outstanding - delicious, varying, and well presented. We specifically were amazed by the restaurant „B-Loved“ which is „A-la-Card“ for „privileged guests“. We ate over 80% of our time there. Not only the food was outstanding but the whole team made you really feel loved every time you enter that place. The whole team treated us like family. We really want to highlight Enrique, Consuelo, and Francisco who prepared a special lunch for our little son every day. And also the dinner crew with Juan and Evelyn who treated us with perfect hospitality. They all read your wishes from your lips and all they want is to make you have the perfect holidays. Also, a special thanks to Rosa for bringing always fresh Mango Margaritas to the beach and the rest of the B-Loved Team: Mariano, Cassandra, Arlette, Blanca, Adrian, and Breyen. On top of that, the pools, bars and rooms were new, always clean and welcoming. The beach offers perfect Caribbean sand and always enough space to relax. We would definitely love to come again!
