Stunning property in an amazing location! Excellent accommodation for two couples. We had a really relaxing stay. Great location for Abel Tasman national park. And not too far from wine country! Thoroughly recommend it.
If I consider all the properties I love spending time at in New Zealand all but one has handed the reins on to a new owner. Only one of those properties radically altered its proposition and I no longer visit it. Mel and Richard Hunt, the new owners of Almyra have very sensibly decided that if Almyra isn't broke don't fix it. Beautiful clean lines inside immaculately kept gardens and a wonderfully maintained swimming pool means “the more it changes, the more it's the same thing” and one can, therefore, soak up the stunning views to Mount Arthur across the estuary and walk the deserted beaches of the coast digging deeper into the area without distraction or disconnection. On a purely practical level, the Kitchen Inventory has been given a slight spring clean and I really loved using the brand new Broil King a super-efficient Bar Be Que as well as listening to my music through a new Bluetooth speaker which allows your music to bloom without intruding. Almyra not only has commanding views but because it is set in substantial grounds and was purpose-built to provide separate self-contained guest accommodation the suite has that all-important sense of discrete privacy. That added to the "location, location location" is what makes it so special and of course, one thing hasn't changed a jot the area itself which is teeming with hiking trails, stunning coastline, extraordinarily beautiful national parks, wineries and is populated by this countries trump card the Kiwis a nicer nation you could not wish to meet. I will be returning again for a seventh visit in the knowledge that all is well in Paradise and that I am twice blessed with hosts who are as special as the location.…
Absolutely stunning location, and accommodation to match. The perfect place to relax after exploring the Tasman National Park. Lovely hosts, who happily ensure your stay in comfortable and up to expectations.
We stayed several nights and it was a really good place for two couples exploring and riding in the area . The position is scenic, the layout of the apartment is good and we had a very pleasant stay. I think for a place of this quality and cost it is missing two things - Sky Sport and a dishwasher.
If you travel for adventure and fresh insights but include within your journey the familiar there is always the danger you will hit the law of diminishing returns. After 8 blissful nights in the Kina Suite I can say such a law did not prevail. This was the most fulfilling visit not least because New Zealand is having a wonderful summer (thats if you are not working or back on the school run). The property is being maintained to an exquisite standard and feels as fresh as four years ago. Ron and Fiona remain extremely intuitive hosts knowing how much to step back or step forward and offer help in what is after all is their property. If you wish to live here for a week the kitchen has a two ring hob and small convection oven as well as a Barbeque and Mapua has good shopping facilities where you can obtain excellent produce not least from the Gourmet Butchery. The other point I appreciate, making an extended stay, is their is proper storage for you to put all your clothes away rather than live out of the suitcase. The Abel Tasman and Nelson beckon at either end of the coast 30 minutes or so away. But the trump card for me is the beach at Kina. Mile after Mile or is that Kilometre after Kilometre of unspoilt Beach where you might pass 2/3 people and its 5 minutes from your front door. The walk can be before or after supper or a glass of wine taken on your private terrace as you look across the estuary to the mountains. You can round your evening off as the sunsets and pop down to the arbour for complete seclusion for your final coffee. And of course lets not forget during the daytime after hiking or adventuring If its 30 degrees then there is THAT pool. Back next year for the law of increasing returns you bet.…
Everything about our 3 night visit to Almyra was just perfect. The four of us arrived after a beautiful, but very long drive up the west coast from Franz Josef, and within minutes we were relaxing on one of the several decking areas available in the beautiful garden. Having booked both rooms, on arrival, my daughter said she must have our bedroom as it was so luxurious, but ours was even better. The fridge was fully stocked for us including a very nice and much appreciated bottle of wine, and having decided to have the platter for our middle night, can recommend it as a lovely way to finish a busy day of activity in the National Park. Almyra is located about 30 minutes away from the park, and I can honestly say you will not find anything as comfortable and relaxing any closer to it and it formed a perfect place from which to venture into a truly amazing part of the world. It is worth noting though that the beaches within a short walk are also beautiful and Mapua, just a 5 minute drive away is a lovely little town with a collection of restaurants, bars and gift shops. One of things that really made the visit special for us was the help and advice provided by Fiona. She provided lots of ideas while I was planning the trip and booked restaurants and excursions that I would never have been able to find myself, and would have been too late to book once there. Once we arrived we could not have been welcomed in a more friendly way, and nothing was too much trouble, even posting on phone chargers my daughter managed to leave behind. We could have easily spent much longer there and that is our one and only regret of our wonderful time at Almyra. A really great place and cannot recommend it enough.…
Had a lovely stay here, it certainly is a nice property done to a very high standard. One of the things I dislike about b&bs is having to be up for breakfast and talking to other guests and your hosts when you might just want peace and quiet, and so I loved the setup at Almyra. The fridge was full of yummy food and we could make and consume our own breakfast at our own pace before heading off for the day. Perfect! The price initially made me balk, but this area of NZ (Mapua) is pretty expensive in general, so we were quite happy in the end with our little 3 day slice of paradise. Yay!
The property at almyra is absolutely stunning. Our favorite moments were accompanied by a bottle of wine and a breathtaking sunset overlooking the bay. Fiona is an incredible accomodating host who caters to her guests' needs and plans. We were provided with a stocked fridged for breakfast with fresh organic ingredients and were given great restaurant recommendations. Highly recommend this high end B&B!
This was my third visit to the property, which itself speaks volumes. It is as others have remarked, high quality, discrete, purpose built accommodation, set in a stunning location with far reaching views to the hills across the estuary and THAT swimming pool. In a broader sense the location is ideal, 8 minutes from Motueka (a neat real little town with interesting eateries and all your shopping needs ), the walk along the breath taking and tranquil Kina Beach literally a few hundred yards away and Almyra is within easy reach of the Able Tasman national park, a tramper's paradise, finally Nelson is just 40 minutes away. I travel solo and look after myself and nine of my evening meals were made in the kitchen of the Kina Suite, but couples traveling together or a family could buy the additional room as well, not feel cramped, and use the Kina Suite as their cooking hub. Ron and Fiona are the ideal hosts for me (the good neighbour) unobtrusive but always ready to respond if necessary. All of that is a given, but for me it has to come at the right price and after five years of visiting New Zealand I am happy that its a great offer in every sense of the word which is why I have already booked my return visit with the longest ever duration.…
Being a frequent visitor to Upper Montere area near Nelson, we sought a new location to stay and were attracted to Almyra because of its location - convenient to Motueka, Richmond and Nelson. While the amenities of being served meals was available, we chose not to as we were visiting friends almost every evening. But, coming back to Almyra was like coming home... despite an excess of rain in the week we were there. A peaceful vista overlooking the water ... a hot shower ... a comfortable king-size bed ... and the amenities of a modest kitchen that offered us the basics we needed. Owners Fiona and Ron were happy to share their knowledge of the area. The staff was always there to help with the 'little things.' Would we go back? In a heartbeat!
