Modernly furnished B&B with an excellent double bed. Modern kitchen with Espresso machine, 2 burners to heat water or milk or to boil eggs. Fresh fruit, yoghurt, bread and croissants, orange juice, etc., so everything is well organised. Bathroom is also OK with a lovely shower. Washing machine available in hallway, so this is all good! Swimming pool available plus terrace outside.
Points of interest are the location on the Tasman Bay peninsula, which looks more like a mud puddle than a lake/sea. And the sound of the cars on the road towards Abel Tasman NP. Plus the fact that it is a 40 minute drive from the National Park entrance/water taxis.

On our tour, the hosts were probably nowhere more concerned with preserving our privacy than in this place. For 3 days we stayed comfortably in the Tasman Suite, enjoyed the extensive grounds overlooking the estuary and the tranquility, but had hardly any direct contact with our hosts.
For the first time, however, we experienced how Continental Breakfast can be appealingly arranged, sufficient and diverse. This was brought to us every morning at the appointed time and we then took it in our room or on the veranda.
The Tasman Suite itself is not very large, but opens onto the veranda, offering much more space.
Highlights include the modern bathroom, the possibility of using the swimming pool and the air conditioning, which is very helpful on warm days as the room heats up quite a bit.
A laundry facility (cold) is available and costs $10 per load.
We felt very comfortable.

Stunning property in an amazing location! Excellent accommodation for two couples. We had a really relaxing stay. Great location for Abel Tasman national park. And not too far from wine country! Thoroughly recommend it.

If I consider all the properties I love spending time at in New Zealand all but one has handed the reins on to a new owner. Only one of those properties radically altered its proposition and I no longer visit it.
Mel and Richard Hunt, the new owners of Almyra have very sensibly decided that if Almyra isn't broke don't fix it. Beautiful clean lines inside immaculately kept gardens and a wonderfully maintained swimming pool means “the more it changes, the more it's the same thing” and one can, therefore, soak up the stunning views to Mount Arthur across the estuary and walk the deserted beaches of the coast digging deeper into the area without distraction or disconnection.
On a purely practical level, the Kitchen Inventory has been given a slight spring clean and I really loved using the brand new Broil King a super-efficient Bar Be Que as well as listening to my music through a new Bluetooth speaker which allows your music to bloom without intruding.
Almyra not only has commanding views but because it is set in substantial grounds and was purpose-built to provide separate self-contained guest accommodation the suite has that all-important sense of discrete privacy. That added to the "location, location location" is what makes it so special and of course, one thing hasn't changed a jot the area itself which is teeming with hiking trails, stunning coastline, extraordinarily beautiful national parks, wineries and is populated by this countries trump card the Kiwis a nicer nation you could not wish to meet.
I will be returning again for a seventh visit in the knowledge that all is well in Paradise and that I am twice blessed with hosts who are as special as the location.

We stayed here for a romantic couple of nights. The setting is absolutely gorgeous, with amazing views of the estuary and ranges. The house itself is very modern and the room had everything we needed. The pool out the front looked inviting and the garden was very quaint.
The hosts were reasonably friendly but we felt like the service was not worth the price we paid to stay there. On the final morning the hosts were asking us at breakfast how we were going to pay which we felt was inappropriate when we are trying to relax. They then knocked on our door straight afterwards, asking for our credit card. We began to feel as if they thought we weren't going to pay!

Response from Fiona O, Owner at Almyra Waterfront Lodge
Responded 17 Feb 2014
We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed your time here at Almyra but sorry to hear that you felt our usual high standard of service had not been met. Indeed, when you asked for a very early check-in (before 1pm) we ensured that your room was ready for you and that we were here to meet and greet you; we also did our best to accommodate your request to leave your luggage here at the end of your stay - although in the event your plans were changed. I am sorry if you felt that we were hassling you regarding final payment - this was certainly not intended. However you had told us that you planned to leave here early to fit in some kayaking before your flight home, so we offered an earlier breakfast and assumed that you wouldn’t want to hang around and therefore I tried to ensure that you were not kept waiting while your credit card was being processed - this can sometimes take a bit of time and we are conscious of guests time schedules, particularly with some of the early timetables for water activities. It is disappointing that you felt that we spoilt your relaxation over your final breakfast but hope that this didn’t detract from your overall stay here and that you enjoyed your last day out kayaking.

Almyra had been highly recommended to us, and it more than lived up to expectations. Fabulous location and stunning views; first class accommodation; very friendly and welcoming hosts. We liked it so much and this is such an interesting part of New Zealand that we extended our stay!

A lovely, comfortable self-contained apartment in the most perfect location with stunning views of the mountains and Kina estuary in an elevated position.
The location on the Ruby Coast was great for access to Abel Tasman NP and the Nelson area, with Motueka a short drive away with good cafes, restaurants, iSite etc.
We were bowled over by the warm and thoughtful hospitality of our hosts, Fiona and Ron, who were so welcoming. The accommodation is attached to their wonderful home - private (with separate access) but we felt like house guests the way we were treated.
Highly recommended - make sure you stay more than a couple of nights to do justice to the area and take advantage of the "home from home" accommodation.

We stayed several nights and it was a really good place for two couples exploring and riding in the area . The position is scenic, the layout of the apartment is good and we had a very pleasant stay.
I think for a place of this quality and cost it is missing two things - Sky Sport and a dishwasher.

Had a wonderful stay with our generous hosts. All you could want in a short stay - comfortable bed, lounge chairs, espresso coffee in room and a fabulous outlook. Our hosts looked after us royalty with sumptuous breakfast and attention to detail evident in everything.

We were lucky enough to sneak away to peaceful, beautifully appointed Almyra for a two day break, and it lives up to the hype. Spotlessly clean, gorgeous gardens (can't wait to go back and see them in summer!), and a comfortable room with every little touch of thoughtfulness you could ask for. Big comfortable bed with beautiful linens, free wifi, and tea and coffee. The bathroom was spacious with a gorgeous shower and underfloor heating.
Ron and Fiona are gracious, charming, helpful, and friendly, but respect your privacy as well. Breakfast in the morning was fresh, tasty, and perfect, and served in a lovely setting overlooking the gardens, estuary, and mountain ranges in the distance.
Almyra strikes the perfect balance of making you feel welcome and comfortable (spoiled even), while maintaining a sense of quiet and privacy.
We are already planning our return trip. Thanks so much!
