On a sandy beach, big swimming pool with sea view, gorgeous gardens, amazing breakfasts, very clean rooms and attentive staff. The best hotel we've ever stayed in Thailand considering we are here twice a year. Big thanks to all the hard working staff at breakfast and the Sandbox restaurant, especially khun Ammy, R, Pu, Jacob and khun Robin. We had a fantastic time and will be back.

I can’t thank the staff enough for their wonderful hospitality. They really went above and beyond to ensure my stay was enjoyable and memorable. I booked a deluxe room overlooking the lagoon with a balcony. The room was large with a good seating area. As a Marriott Titanium member, they were not able to upgrade me to a villa (due to high occupancy) for my entire stay but offered it for 3 days. I really appreciated the gesture as most resorts wouldn’t even bother asking and going through the trouble. The villa was very private and beautifully appointed. It had an outdoor patio with a pool. Everything was in excellent working condition. The resort gets high marks for doing away with mini toiletries and using refillable containers. They also provided plenty of drinking water in refillable glass bottles. The breakfast restaurant was situated overlooking a tranquil lagoon with colourful water lilies. The food was plentiful and delicious. It was the perfect setting to start each morning. The fitness centre was very well equipped with free weights, cardio and weight machines. The resort is surrounded with beautiful, lush vegetation and I often saw humming birds, colourful and fragrant flowers. I loved the green grass and mature trees that separated the resort from the beach. Most resorts would have simply cut down the trees for the sake of an unobstructed ocean view. The resort was adhering to all covid measures - staff wearing masks at all times including outdoors, taking temperature checks before entering all indoor facilities and provided hand sanitizer stations. Special recognition to Lily, Sanny and Vasco who were simply outstanding, courteous and professional.

I stayed in Oct during the covid restriction. The hotel was helpful in my arrival plans. The Hotel has an excellent hospitality team, I had a wonderful time there. Vesco was welcoming at my arrival and during my stay, Dang, in housekeeping was attentive to details in the room and check periodically. The pool assistant R, was friendly and quick to assist his guest. As a Titanium Elite guest this is one of my favorite vacation locations.

We stayed in Nov at end of the covid restrictions. The hotel wasn’t full - but we had a wonderful time. The staff are amazing and super helpful and friendly. Rooms were really nice and comfortable. The food is amazing - breakfast buffet was best I’ve had. The 2x restaurants are really fantastic as well - good cocktails, tasty Thai food and international (Sandbox restaurant with Mont and staff are great). The gym was also a real surprise - had squat rack, rings, pull up stations, full set of dumbbells etc… Fully recommend this hotel and if we come back to Phuket we will be back.

After a painful 15-day jail-like quarantine stay in Le Meridien Bangkok in January, I went through my second Thailand quarantine of the year although this time a far more enjoyable “quarantine-light” approach in Phuket where guests are free to roam the island rather than be stuck in their room. Not only are hotel rates very low in Thailand at the moment, but combined with Megatix vouchers with 60% bonus it made the value of my stay at Renaissance very hard to beat compared to local alternatives especially considering the elite benefits and the pool villa upgrade as Marriott Ambassador Elite guest. In my opinion Renaissance is the best fit for people who value a great beach because Mai Khao is very nice even by Thailand's excellent beach standards. There are a few international chain hotels in that area including JW Marriott, Anantara Mai Khao, and Phuket Marriott Resort, but with low occupancy the long stretch of beach was almost empty every day. This part of Phuket is not the best for views however - Renaissance is on flat terrain, although some rooms have modest views as outlined below. Also the location is suboptimal for people who want nightlife – Patong is not close to Mai Khao and there is not a whole lot in this area. Renaissance seemed very proactive with upgrades and weekends were busier than week days, so when I arrived on a Friday I was told I could not get an upgrade as all villas were occupied, but they could move me to a pool villa later which I gladly accepted; I did not mind changing rooms. If I had one criticism of the first room it would be that there was nothing Thai about it. That said, it was in good condition and for an entry level room, 46 sqm was very spacious. After a couple of days I was moved to a garden pool villa. The villa was not a lot bigger than the entry level room (for indoor space), and there was still no view. However villas with a private pool in Phuket are often not cheap and many hotels do not upgrade to those room types so having the plunge pool was definitely the main perk about the upgrade. When counting the terrace outside and the pool itself, this room type gave more space than the entry level room where the terrace was quite standard. Towards the end of my stay I was moved again to an ocean pool villa (only 4 available on the property). The villa was identical as the garden variety but the difference was the position on the resort: it was on the front and closest to the sea. Privacy was less than from the garden villa (which is between 4 walls) but if closing the electric fence then most people walking by would not easily see inside the beach villa. During the day I opened the fence to have partial sea views and the villa was close enough to the sea to hear the waves which was lovely. While it was not the most amazing view, I thought it was still much better than looking at a wall so in my opinion this room type is indeed worth a premium. Breakfast was quite nice with many dishes with shrimps, fish, seafood, etc. instead of only cheap ingredients. I ordered room service several times and was pleased with the quality of the food, and I would also note that happy hour at the beach bar with cocktails at half price (less than 4 USD each) does not break the bank. With all things considered, for the price paid I thought the value was excellent. Food & beverage were decent, service was generally good, the hotel proactively upgrades elites to higher categories of rooms including villas with a private pool, and there is a great beach right in front of the hotel. For people who want views or be in the middle of the action there are better options in Phuket but otherwise Renaissance can be a great choice depending on preferences.

Good afternoon from Renaissance Phuket Resort & Spa Thank you for staying with us here in Mai Khao Beach and for writing such an amazing and very detailed review. We really appreciate you choosing to stay with us and happy to hear your Sandbox experience was a good one. Thank you also for your loyalty to Marriott International and we were glad to be able to reward your loyalty. Thank you. We also appreciate you stating the facts about the location, which we think is special. There are many options in and around the party places on the island and the overall experience is the way we market our resort. The rooms are styled with the international traveler in mind, while the Thai hospitality and Thai cuisine throughout the resort shines. Thank you again for your review and we look forwarding to welcoming you back to Renaissance Phuket soon. Brad General Manager and Multi Property Vice President- Marriott International Phuket
