Absolute beachfront boutique accommodation on Northland's stunning Cable Bay beach. Relax, unwind and enjoy the peace, privacy and serenity in one of the four family self catering self contained apartments, two studio suites or select the separate Cosy Cockle Cottage.

We want you to have a kiwi bach experience , such as we enjoyed as children visiting Cable Bay - al fresco living on the beach, BBQ on the deck overlooking the sea, with apartments fully equipped kitchens for your independent living.

You can be as active or inactive as the mood takes you. Swim in the sea, walk or jog along the beach, boogie board when the swell is up, take a sit-on kayak for a leisurely paddle along the coastline, pick up some fresh green lipped mussels ready for the BBQ or just sit back and enjoy the magic of Doubtless Bay.

Rosemary and Brian and staff look forward to welcoming you to their little piece of paradise.

What an awesome short break. When we booked at short notice I looked ant the description and photos of this accommodation situated on the beach and wondered what the catch was. guess what, there wasn't, the lodge is literally on the beach. The views from the studios are of the beach and sea. we were able to put our children to bed exhausted after playing on the beach all day and sit outside our room with the most fantastic views knowing the kids were safe and close enough to monitor,

The hosts Jackie and John are so friendly and seem to have thought of everything, they have most things you would want. Canoes, fishing rods, boogie boards and a weber bbq for use. There is also Netflix on the TV for those that want to sit in! We have already booked to go back!

This place is in the most magnificent location - right on a beautiful beach.
Our unit was very spacious, comfy and nicely updated. We had everything we needed, incl. a well equipped kitchen.
Cafes, restaurants and a new 4-Square are a few driving minutes away. A Take away Shop is located across the street (easy walking distance).
We enjoyed amazing views from our balcony , lovely walks on the beach and nice sunsets. Rosemary, the host, is very welcoming, friendly and helpful.
We certainly would love to stay there again in the future.

We enjoyed the stay at this beautiful beach. The lodges in a great location.
Rooms were okay with a well appointed kitchenette. The sheets/bedding and towels weren't great.
The lighting was very dim and not positioned over the table and kitchen area.
The traffic noise was surprisingly loud over night (log trucks I presume).
We loves taking the kayaks out but here were no suitable life jackets.

Thanks for taking the time to review us Jennie. As we have very recently taken over the motel, we really appreciate your comments. As a result we have: obtained new linen (although we continue to hire sheets and have never had adverse comments before for them??) replace lightbulbs throughout the complex, purchased new life jackets, and water blasted the entire building. The road noise is not usual but there is currently only one highway from the North - State Highway 1 closed at Mangamuka which is a shorter and more usual route for the trucks. It is due to open in a month or so. We are very proud of this fabulous hard to find beachfront location and working hard to improve our guests experience. Happy holidays Rosemary from Driftwood Lodge

Amazing location, beach basically on your doorstep couldn't not go for an early morning swim. We stayed in the Oyster studio, loved all the personal touches with the decor of the room , very cozy comfortable and clean studio. Helpful staff and cute welcome note on door as we arrived. Bonus we meet Brian owner of the property, who gave us some great recommendations for places to see in the north , definitely will be back 😊

Accommodation was brilliant! I have booked quite a few places this year that were close to the water but this has been my family’s favourite by far. Not only is the view stunning but the room was so lovely and welcoming. We arrived to a lovely message on our door and were blown away by how homely the room was. We instantly felt relaxed and didn’t want to leave. We will definitely be staying again!

we loved the location, right on the beach! we had our lovely little dog with us and were grateful this place accepted dogs. the heat pump unfortunately didn't work but this was fine. it was a little stressful as we were told dogs not allowed on furniture but she coped no problem and we did some fishing right at the front door (didn't catch anything but enjoyed it anyway) all in all it was a great place.

The lodge has a fantastic location, prime beachfront, unfortunatly that is the only positive thing I can report. The owner is not so friendly and seems to find it acceptable to dump her motel rubbish in the local public bins. This I have witnessed on several occasions. Not only that but also dumps her rubbish in neighbours rubbish bins. Her dog happily dumps all over the public lawns, beach and neighbours property. The owner takes zero responcibility for this, not sure if it also uses the local childrens playpark but it would not surprise me. The unit we stayed in had a slightly shabby feel and are in need of some care and attention. I would not recomend staying here or supporting this owner, we will not be recomending to others or returning ourselves.

Driftwood lodge is one of those places that makes you feel totally relaxed from the minute you pull up. If you want absolute beach front in a gorgeous bay with golden sand then this is your place. The fact that it is unpretentious makes it so relaxing. John and Jackie went out of there way to show us fabulous hospitality in the Far North. Great location to explore the region with Cape Reinga and so many other beautiful beaches and bays handy on the Karikari Peninsular just minutes away. Being at Driftwood Lodge certainly fulfilled all of our expectations. Thank you :)

Over the past 9 years we have stayed many times at Driftwood Lodge. The main reason is the position - it is practically on the beach - and another is the super friendly hosts. We always stay in the same unit downstairs so we can jump out of bed in the morning & head into the sea. The units are very clean - they are not the most luxurious if that's what you're looking for, but they are comfortable. Jackie is always so helpful even to the extent of cleaning & filleting the fish my husband caught. I think we'll keep returning as I can't think of anywhere better for some quiet R & R.
