The location, surrounded by vineyards, 20 minutes out of Bordeaux, gives a true sense of serenity. With the sun beating down and the temperature 30, the pool was a welcome sight.
The decor is quirky with an interesting colour palate. We ate in the gardens on our first night and the food was excellent. It was a magnificent start to our short time in the region.
Our room, in the new section, was clean and spacious with a lovely outlook onto the valley.
We wish Emilie every success with Villa D'Or.
It was obvious I had made a genuine error for which I was duly charged ,which I fully accepted ,the receptionist told us that “luckily “ the hotel did have a spare unbooked room which we could use for the night and she would ask the manager if there might be any discount as my costs had now doubled for a one night stay
Sadly she later informed us that there was no discount so we paid full price twice for one nights stay
The hotel was not full of guests and the restaurant had unbooked tables .
Top Tip ; be careful when you book online to check your information, it was a costly error on my part and the hotel did not compromise at all and did very well out of my genuine mistake
We had two principal issues with our stay. The first was that the shower had drainage issues and caused the bathroom to flood. We notified Emilie and the next day there was some improvement, but it was never properly functioning. The second issue was the wifi service. If you logged out and logged in and then loaded a webpage it would work briefly but it would cease functioning very quickly after that. Other minor issues were that the nice towels for the shower were never replaced and we were never reminded that there was an extra charge for breakfast. We were fine with paying, but the whole time we weren't sure if there was a charge and there was (15 Euro/person). We also ate dinner at the hotel on two nights and the food was good but not exceptional. There are certainly better dining options in the area for the same or less money.
Overall, we were happy with our stay but improvement on the finer details would have made it just perfect.
I travelled with a friend, and our 8 year old sons. We all had a wonderful time, using the jacuzzi, the pool, the billiard...
We also made a reservation for diner the first night. The cuisine was really excellent, and the choice of wines terrific, and priced very acceptably! They even managed to whip up a children menu for the little ones.
The rooms where very clean and comfortable, breakfast was very nice... nothing negative to say actually... only that my wife now is nagging me to return with her as well.
"May be better to get a room in the main building a this faces a different direction and may not be so hot at night"Read full review
