Stayed here for a long weekend. Our room (Room 6) was on the ground floor. On entering looked very good. Very large bed, 1 small armchair, 1 padded chair, dressing table, wardrobe, tv, tea/coffee making facility. Couple of problems, the bed is very high, husband and I both had to climb on to it. The wardrobe does not have a light near it, so very difficult to see into it unless there is daylight coming through the window. It is an old building and the windows are single glazed/ wood framed ! The en-suite had a very good shower with a choice of overhead or an adjustable height shower head. We did report the fact that the plug in the sink wasn’t working properly, so hopefully that was sorted after we left ( we had to have the taps turned on continuously to be able to wash/shave)

I'm not into writing scathing reports about hotel stays or restaurants unless however it is justified. My initial impressions weren't too bad when I pulled up to the Hotel. The reception was OK and I was warmly welcomed. After being given my key I then proceeded to my room. As I approached my room it became immediately apparent that the Hotel (not restaurant) was 'tired'. The doors looked scratched and not very appealing. The twin room was OK but the pleather (I assume so) headboards were scratched and cracked and just didn't look good at all. Not somewhere where you would want to place your head while watching TV. The bathroom was 'OK' however when I pulled the blind down there was paint all over it. The bathroom smelt of paint so I assume that a recent attempt had been made to tidy the place up. The room and bathroom was cleanish which I was grateful for and is of course expected. My door rattled every time somebody walked along the corridor outside so my sleep was slightly disturbed. I assume that whoever was upstairs suffered from Restless Leg Syndrome since I could hear them pacing up and down for most of the night due to the creaking floorboards. The free WiFi was OK but kept on completely dropping out which was unreliable at times.

This is a 3* rated hotel which is a fair estimate. The better part of my stay was the restaurant. The food was good and all staff that I had interactions with were all friendly and polite. I normally stay elsewhere during my time in Wiltshire but I was unable to get accommodation hence the reason for me staying at the Cross Hands Hotel. Maybe I've been spoilt and expect too much?? Unfortunately due to the experience with my hotel stay I don't think I'll be staying again. That is, unless improvements could be made to the slight noise pollution.

This is a really well located hotel not far from the M4 so when travelling is a great stopover.

Our room had a really comfy bed, good shower and extras such as iron, fan, hairdryer, tea & coffee. Despite being next to busy road if you keep the windows closed there’s no issue with noise and even though the room gets warm you are provided with a fan. Also they gave excellent service including in the adjoining restaurant.

However, despite the decoration standard of the room is really tatty: paint work, wallpaper peeling, exposed plaster, mouldy windows, broken lampshade above bed, turn fabric on headboard and grime on all woodwork.

We stayed here for 5 nights, and were very pleased with the food , service and hotel room.

Before arriving we were a bit worried as there were some mixed reviews, but honestly just ignore them — they are clearly very unfair. We were offered house cleaning on our rooms daily, and the decor was very homely and comfortable. Was there the odd bit of chipped and peeling paint? Yes. Was it enough to effect our stay? No. The negative reviews on the cleanliness and decor are just dramatic. If you want a room with a modern, sleek feel to it, then why would you book at a Cotswold country pub? As someone who works in a pub myself, I know there is just no pleasing some people.

We also had nothing but positive experiences with the food. The drinks were a tad pricey, but the food was reasonably priced (especially the breakfast). The burgers were particularly nice.

Me and my girlfriend felt compelled to leave a reviews as we felt our stay and the food had been excellent, and hope it would make others reading the more negative reviews feel at ease before arriving. I honestly have nothing negative to say about our stay here. Everything that was within the control of the pub/hotel was brilliant

Popped in for lunch after a day out; friendly welcome and seated straight away (very quiet though). We had the 'Signature' Fish and Chips and Hunter's Chicken, my young'uns had standard F+C and Kids Smothered Chicken. Everyone enjoyed their meal but the fish was too much for one 'smaller' mouth!
The Tim Taylor's Landlord was very well kept and went down well; usual Abbot Ale and IPA on offer too.
They've also been known to have Abbot Reserve on if you're really lucky!
Overall, a reliable, family favourite with friendly, hard working staff kept in check by lovely and formidable Lucy! And good value too boot!

Stayed this weekend. We enjoyed our stay. The hotel staff were all friendly and we had no issues. The room was clean and pleasantly decorated, if not as already suggested, a bit tired. Our son was on a sofa bed which had been made up as a bed and was comfortable for him. The bathroom had a shower over the bath; again this was clean and the water hot. Given the age of the building, the floors were a bit uneven and there were a lot of stairs if mobility is an issue (although I presume you’d be given a room on the ground floor!). Covid compliance was in place throughout, and politely enforced when someone needed some guidance. The breakfast was good and staff attentive. The evening meal was also good, and for blue light card holders gave a 20% discount which is well advertised at the till. A pleasant stay.

We chose the Crossed Hands for a 2 night break as we have stayed in other Greene King inns and always found them to be good. This was no exception. Like others we have stayed in, the building was old and in need of a coat of paint here and there (I’m thinking of the bedroom doors), but this makes no difference to the enjoyment of our stay. We prefer a hotel with character.

Our room (5) was a decent size and had everything we wanted. The bathroom looked as if it has been fairly recently refurbished, apart from the shower hose which had seen better days. The bed was very big and comfortable. Although we could hear some traffic noise it was not enough to disturb us.

We enjoyed all our meals in the beautiful restaurant, we had two dinners and two breakfasts. I just would’ve liked a nice bowl of fruit salad at breakfast, rather than whole apples, oranges and bananas. The staff were friendly, in particular Jo who was a real star. We felt as if we had known her for years, what a lovely lady.

The only negative was the Wi-Fi connection, which drove us mad dropping out every few minutes. It would be good if something could be done to improve that. Otherwise a delightful stay. We would definitely stay again if we happened to be in the area.

Also thanks to the gentleman who served us at breakfast on Friday and told us to help ourselves to apples from the orchard, we have brought home a few and I will be making some crumbles later!

4 of us stayed here end of July for 2 nights in 2 doubles, 1 room had been refurbished and had a huge superking bed and nice decor on ground floor, however the room upstairs was under refurbishment very dated but clean would not recommend upstairs to anyone with mobility issues as stairs are very steep.

The Food was outstanding breakfast beautiful and evening meal especially the camambert starter enough for 2 sharing and the fillet steak was perfect and prices were reasonable. Staff in restaurant were welcoming and friendly.

The 2 outstanding staff that couldnt do enough for us were Tom Eaton and Joe nothing was a problem for them even when I'd mislaid my key, Tom was straight there opening my room up for me. Joe, I didn't get his surname, was very knowledgeable behind the bar and nothing phased him even when it was busy, always polite.

Staff like these are very hard to come by and should be commended on how they portray your establishment. Would I stay here again 100% but pre book taxis if your planning on going out of area as limited on weekends as in a rural area.

Decided to stay here so that we were close to bristol. For £90 for a superior room I’d spent the extra £10-20 for a superior room in bristol.
Room very dated with plugs coming out the walls, paint coming off the walls and a green stain on the carpet.
Food service wasn’t much better with 2 of the drinks I ordered off the app the branch didn’t even stock and being sent the wrong meal. When bringing it up I was told it wasn’t in stock. We were then brought the original meals again but this time microwaved (great if you love a hot lettuce)
Waiter was absolutely lovely and apologetic. However, the manager kept blaming the issues on the app and how it’s not their fault it’s a chain but they get these complaints all the time.
Overall, I’d save your time and effort and choose somewhere else.

Stayed here two nights while walking the Cotswold Way.

Overall this was an excellent stay. We had decided to skip a day's walking and visit Bath instead and this accommodation was ideally suited for that plan as we could get a bus just outside the door to and from Bath.

All the staff in this hotel were excellent from start to finish and really went out of their way to make out stay enjoyable. The beer garden was great, a real gem.

The rooms were fine, albeit maybe a little tired, but perfectly fine for our stay.

We ate in the restaurant both nights. The serving staff were absolutely superb both nights and went out of their way to provide exemplary service and the food, though pub style, was hearty and as good as you could wish for at that price point.

Breakfasts were well done too and speedily served, always a plus when you are walking.

Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at the Cross Hands and would recommend.
