#3 of 9 Speciality lodging in Luganville
Oyster Island will be closed until further notice. Set on a private 25 hectare island just 2 minutes crossing from the mainland. Oyster Island Resort resides within a Marine Reserve, abundant in marine and wild life. Sandy beaches, tropical rainforest, coral reefs and war plane wrecks make for fantastic snorkelling. Bungalows line the waters edge, each with private decks or patio's, enjoying stunning views out over the calm lagoon waters. Family Vila allow room for parents and children to enjoy the large grounds and gardens and are set off the water for safety. Skilled Chefs serve the very best of local and western cuisine from our waterfront restaurant. Only 20 minutes from the airport and township.

I took the family (3 kids under 10) and stayed for 3 nights. It was quiet at that time but the experience was terrific. The accommodation was clean and well set-up for our family, the food was fabulous, and the staff just brilliant. Plenty of walks, stunning beaches, snorkelling, kayaking and swimming all on the island, and it's just too easy to get across to the "mainland" any time of day - just get the staff to arrange a taxi or something on the other side to take you wherever else you want to go. The kayak trip from the island up the river to blue holes was a highlight. As quiet as it was, a crowd turned up for the famous Sunday lunch and live band. Thanks to Nabil, Bev, Richard and the team!

My wife and two young kids stayed at Oyster Island Resort in early July. We were a bit concerned with some of the poor reviews being left leading up to our stay, but I can say you can largely ignore some of those reviews from pre-June. Firstly, the new experienced managers came in at the start of June and have things back on track. Secondly, if you read the poor reviews, some of the reviewers didn't actually stay there. Comments were made about the resort being quiet. Admittedly there weren't many people staying while we were there, but who wouldn't want a beautiful tropical island almost to themselves? We loved the opportunity to just grab a kayak to explore deserted islands or a Blue Hole (amazing); snorkelling in search of plane wrecks or across coral reefs; or just swimming

We originally booked based on some great reviews, it seemed to be perfect. Then before we left the bad reviews came in. I'm happy to say we enjoyed our stay, but there is room to improve. It was quiet, but that's the beauty of this location. The location and helpfulness of the staff are still great. We had a deluxe waterfront room with our two kids under 7. It was very comfortable and had a fridge and a lovely deck where we enjoyed spending time. Two things for improvement were communication and the restaurant. We were greeted and sent to our room, but there was no information on booking trips or practical things like laundry. Eventually we realised that the real reception is at the bar. We found out the information packs were being updated, which is fine but we still needed the

We stayed in one of the frangipani rooms for 2 nights. They are perched just above the water line and one has an uninterrupted view of Petersen bay. The balcony is only meters from the water. The rooms are small but tastefully decorated in stained timber with bamboo ceilings and are quite comfortable. The staff were very friendly and were prompt in attending to our requests. Nothing was too much trouble. There is wifi in the reception area only.

We were three families travelling together and had booked to come and stay here several months ago. We were a bit worried given some of the more recent reviews we had read on Tripadvisor ... and then we arrived. Oyster Island is truly a piece of magical paradise. From the low key but lovely approach, amazing location right on a gorgeous beach, lovely food and we were even lucky enough to be their for their first cultural evening. We had our three young children with us and they spent the entire time at the beach, snorkelling and learning how to kayak. We also had a fabulous day out visiting champagne beach, Port Olry and the blue hole all organised by the team at Oyster Island. We really can't thank Bev and the team enough for such a wonderful time.
