We recently had the best holiday at Barrier Beach Resort. The staff were all amazing, with easy communication beforehand when we were booking and organising free airport transfers and throughout our entire stay. The room was very modern, clean and comfortable. We chose one with a private pool and it was located right on the beach with the most stunning views. The resort location itself was so spectacular. Set on a beautifully quiet beach where you’d barely see another person, soft sand, clear, calm and warm water that is the best we ever swam in. We even saw a family of dugongs swimming right outside our room! There is plenty to do, snorkelling the reefs mere metres from our room, so many varieties of fish. Plenty of canoes and paddle boards etc all free for guests use. We also went to the Riri Blue Hole located very nearby which was stunning too. The resort restaurant was able to cater for our diverse tastes and a few food requirements with so much patience and kindness. The food was yummy and the atmosphere on the restaurant deck is so relaxing with a picturesque view and cute little crabs scurrying along the shore as the sun goes down. We were very pleased that the resort had a triple filtered water system and they provided us with bottles of this water everyday. They were so kind as to give us a few vouchers because we were on our honeymoon, which we greatly appreciated. Such a special place that we will always remember and definitely be back again soon. Highly recommend! Thank you for the beautiful service!

We couldn't have asked for anything more in our hotel. BBR was just perfect.

The location, the service, the incredible food, the things to do (bikes, water craft, snorkels, beach lounges, cocktail bar....), all of it was just perfect. We loved our room (huge and quiet and private with screens around the whole thing and lovely lourves to give you privacy and allow you to look over the lush green gardens).
The restaurant is really your only option for dinner, but we ate there all four nights of our stay and did not get bored as there is so much variety on the menu. Recommend organising a hire car or tour prior to you arrival as we had a cruise ship in the main day we wanted to travel around and see things and instead had to wait a day for a car to be available. Not complaining and a book and a deckchair was exactly what I needed!
Thank you to the super helpful and friendly owners and staff, we loved our holiday and are looking forward to coming back soon.
Plunge pools are quite small and probably not worth the extra, but the larger villa was gorgeous (fare 15). Also probably the more private ones too (14, 15 and 16) though they don't face the beach it isn't far to wander through the lovely gardens to get there.

Julie and Calvin are delightful hosts and nothing seems too much trouble. They arrange taxis, tours and anything else you need to make your stay enjoyable. The food and service in the restaurant is first class and we put on a couple of kilos as a result! The water in front of the resort is clear and calm and the paddle boards provided were a lot of fun to use exploring. When our flight home was delayed Calvin was very kind and allowed us to keep our room for the day which we were very thankful for.

We spent the most delightful ten days at Barrier Beach Resort, a stunning boutique resort on beautiful Espiritu Santo. Nestled up against a lovely turquoise bay and surrounded by lush rainforest gardens, BBR is an idyllic location to slow down and revitalise. We booked a lovely garden fare with plunge pool and spent a few nights there but were very generously upgraded by the owners, Calvin and Julie, to one of the new, executive ocean front fares. It was so lovely waking up to the calm beauty of the ocean and falling asleep to the sound of gently breaking waves. We spent our days cycling to beautiful local blue holes, canoeing, swimming and snorkelling in the sweet little reef at the front of the BBR. It was an idyllic and very relaxing holiday. The fact that the resort only contains 18 fares also adds to its sense of calm and beauty. The only thing more gorgeous than the locale and grounds, are the lovely staff who took such wonderful care of us. Thank you Rose, Richard, Rocky, Tony, Yvanna, Emmie and Katherine! We will definitely be returning to this gem of a place! Sasha + Frank.

There’s so much to love about this place including the stunning location, incredibly ocean views, warm friendly staff but there were just a few too many short falls to give a very good rating.

Food was ok but no stand out dishes. Breakfast was nice but for some reason we were never offered the fruit platter. Coffee was so so & bread was tasteless.

The fare was well appointed but it lacked a
sense of luxury. The mattress was not the most comfortable. Splatters of something on the ceiling & wall. Rusty ceiling fan & worn outdoor furniture. All very functional but I expected more.

Seating in the bar deck lacked comfort & one sofa was broken. Happy hour drinks only had a 20% discount. This feels mean & should be made clearer.

Overall we still had a nice stay & we loved the island. We will be back but probably not to this hotel.

We are so sorry that you did not totally enjoy your stay with us. I am unsure of your problems with Breakfast as the Fruit Platter is on the Complimentary Menu for you to order at any time. Being within a meter of the beach we do get rust marks on the fans which are replaced very regularly however I am also at a loss with your remarks about the worn out furniture, I checked both the furniture in and outside your room and also in the lounge bar and could not find any broken items at all. We do ensure that for happy hour the drinks menu has all the happy hour prices. It is never pleasant for us to hear that our guests were not entirely satisfied and if we had of known we would have loved to have helped make it more pleasant for you personally. We are glad you loved Santo and still had a nice stay. Kind regards.

We had the absolute pleasure of being marooned at here for 20 days during and after the double cyclone that had just ravaged Vanuatu. We also endured two earthquakes while at the resort too. Since the airports were all closed we couldn't get out. During this arduous time all the staff were professional, calming and knowledgeable on the safety procedures and protocols required to keep us and the other two couples safe at all times. Fortunately the buildings and resort were undamaged, a testament to the building quality; and also the location which is protected from the predominant winds . This location provides the allure for the resort. It is the only resort on the island with a protected sandy beach that is safe to swim at-- even in the midst of a cyclone!!
The snorkeling is amazing right at off the beach. They have paddleboards and kayaks that are shared amongst the guests. We had dugongs come to within 20 meters off the beach. You can do a snorkeling trip with Island Fishing, where you will see dugongs, turtles, eagle rays and more. The restaurant is great, for breakfast , lunch and dinner with the best view ever. .. and Missy the cat doesn't mind a little tidbit either.
We went the extra for the plunge pool, well worth it if available, just to rinse the salt off, and late night dips.
Walk up the beach at low tide, Take a kayak and paddle around either headland theres a blue pool river you can swim in one way, or another amazing beach the other way. Otherwise the resort is close enough to town (VUT1500 0/w) if you need to go.
We were supposed to have gone back to Vila to finish our trip there but in the end were were extremely fortunate to have found Barrier Beach resort and stay there for our whole Vanuatu holiday.

We stayed here for five nights in mid-August. The gardens are beautiful, and very well maintained.
The location was great, you can borrow a bike from the resort and ride down to The Ranch to visit the Meg at the Seahorse Cava Bar and say hello to the horses or even go for a trail ride. The other direction you can ride down to the blue holes, a smooth and flat cycle and not too far away. You can borrow SUPs and kayaks and paddle out from the resort. The Black Pearl is a short cab ride away and has a unique ceiling and great beach views.
At Barrier Beach Resort you can get a massage at the or enjoy a meal and/or a drink at the restaurant. The food isn't very good value for money but they have just reopened and things are still warming up. The inclusive breakfast was a little disappointing, and there strangely never seemed to be fresh coconuts.
The staff catered to all our needs and were extremely helpful with helping us plan and book activities and arrange taxis.
Our room was upgraded free of charge when an issue arose. Overall a lovely stay, and they are bouncing back from a long time without visitors.

Totally recommend this resort. There's not a lot of resorts open at present. Went here with another couple. We had unit 10, a very modern large lovely beachfront fare, friends had unit 6, beachfront but local type fare. Both have aircon. The best place to stay is the beachfront fares. All the beachfront ones are literally beachfront. Our stay was great, excellent restaurant, lovely friendly staff and awesome beach. We swam and went snorkeling a lot, coral not amazing but still some to see and plenty of small colourful fish, all not far from the beach. Water is so warm. Also bikes, kayaks and paddle boards available too. The staff will organise a driver for you to go places, or for fishing. We did a 4-5 hour trip to Port Olry, Champagne beach, Riri Blue pool and another half day fishing. And another day a snorkel at Million Dollar Point. Otherwise it's relax, read books and enjoy the beautiful water. Internet is good. The colour of the water is stunning. We took our own snorkel gear but they have flippers there to borrow and masks to buy. We shopped for wine and snacks at Luganville for predinner drinks in our room, then bought wine with dinner at the restaurant. Main courses are fairly similar prices to what they are at a restaurant in NZ. We used cash for everything other than prepaid accommodation. 4.5% fee for credit cards. ANZ ATM machine at Port Vila airport, town and at Luganville.

We had a wonderful stay at the Barrier Beach Resort over Christmas 2019. Even though our flight was delayed by more than 48 hours, Julie was in constant touch with me via phone and email to make sure we were looked after.

The property itself is very well looked after, spacious and clean. We also had a very scrumptious Christmas meal (the best fish I have ever had). Plenty to do on the island with snorkeling, swimming at the blue holes, diving etc. They booked us a private cab whenever we needed to go wherever we wanted to explore.

Overall, definitely recommend going to Santo and staying at Barrier Beach for a couple of nights at least. A great break from the busy lives we live in Sydney.

I had 6 wonderful nights at the Barrier Beach Resort at the end of October. It's pretty obvious if you scroll the reviews on trip advisor that the overwhelmingly glowing reviews are completely sincere and people feel compelled to share their great experience with others. To be honest I was completely blown away.

The location is like a dream. Big old rain forest trees interspersed with golden glowing strips of sand, framed by an indescribably beautiful lagoon which is about 7 steps away from the extremely tasteful and luxurious fales.

The food is world class. The santo beef is right up there with the best cuts of meat i've eaten. The seafood changes depending on the catch and you can tell that the kitchen team have massive respect for the produce they're working with. Genuinely world class stuff.

The really magical thing though, are the local staff who can't do enough for you. The service is exceptional without being stiff or formal. Your rooms are cleaned intuitively at the right time, when you've popped out for breakfast or a swim. And they love to share the beautiful culture of their home.

I spent a few nights at a hotel that was 4 times the price in Effate on the way home, and I can tell you that it was only half as good as the Barrier Beach Resort. I can see myself returning year after year after year. A huge thank you to the whole team for one of the most relaxing and perfectly curated holidays i've ever had. See you in 2023!

Sorry for the delay as we have had limited internet since Cyclone Harold. We have a lot of guests who stay at the Resort and dive each day. Transfers are provided by some dive companies or we can organise transfers for you. Kind regards Calvin

Taxis into town cost Vt.1,000 each way with our local taxi drivers and Vt.1,500 for town taxis to come out. There is also a staff shuttle that leaves 3 time a day to town that costs Vt.250 per person. Hope this assists, kind regards Calvin

As others have stated the Resort has a good restaurant. There is also another good restaurant called 1606 which is a short walk towards town. Taxis are plentiful and a ride into town from the Resort is less than $2.50 AUD.
