Kalyves Beach Hotel is lauded for its excellent value, particularly due to its all-inclusive options and cost-effective upgrades. The friendly service enhances guest experiences, although occasional inconsistencies are reported. Its enviable location with easy beach access and stunning natural surroundings is a highlight for many guests. While the hotel's ambiance is generally relaxed, with varied evening entertainment, some guests find daytime activities lacking and have mentioned noise issues. Opinions on rooms vary, with some praising their spaciousness and views, and others pointing out maintenance and cleanliness concerns. The hotel's overall cleanliness receives compliments, yet some inconsistencies exist. Amenities, especially the proximity to the beach and the food variety, are popular, though some guests suggest there's room for improvement.

Second time here, after having three return plans thwarted by Covid. Lovely to see the delightful Penelope still behind reception...along with her other staff, is welcoming, helpful, and professional. We had a large room with side sea view.... everything clean, comfortable....clean towels every day, new bedding every third day. cleaning is top notch. Food? Excellent...tasty, varied and well presented. Wine and beer available on tap, leaving the bar staff to concentrate on preparing cocktails and other drinks. Amazing evening entertainment....excellent position right on the beach..could go on and on..but we love this hotel...back again in May...can't wait!

A lovely hotel set in a quiet village but Chania is only 25 minutes away on the bus which is easy to catch down the road if you are looking for somewhere lively. Perfect location right next to the beach and a few tavernas and shops nearby.
All the food was fab- fresh, home cooked with plenty of Greek options and the covid measures in place meant you feel safe even at an all inclusive buffet. We didn’t upgrade to the vip drinks package just visited local bars for cocktails but you can get soft drinks, local beer and Cretan wine on the all inclusive.
Housekeeping work tirelessly and our room was cleaned daily to a high standard with reception often leaving bottles of wine in the room too!
The hotel is nice and quiet at night not roudy so great for families. Overall a really lovely relaxing break would recommend the hotel if you are visiting kalyves!

We are staying at this hotel as I write this. The hotel itself is situated in a beautiful location by a mountain stream which runs alongside the hotel into the sea which the hotel faces. There are two pools, both which are very chilly at this time of year (one in the main hotel the other in the twin hotel opposite) but lovely and well kept. There are a few issues, one being the cleaning which is excellent in most areas. Our balcony I know hasn’t been cleaned since we got here, and I know that sounds a bit petty but I have long dark hair and some of it has grouped together now on the balcony so we had to clear it ourselves. The glass on the balcony gives us a clear view of the sea which is amazing. We asked for a sea/river view and they did not disappoint as we looked right over the pool and out to sea. The room is adequate but not big. The toilet is right next to the shower so a bit snug and a sink, taking around 2 Sqm in total. The rooms are never made up in time, we are constantly asking them to be made, and this is after 4pm in the afternoon which is when we want to relax. Overall the food is great, we love that they have Greek food as well as English to cater for all, buffet style only. I would not recommend children coming out as the dinner in the evening is from 7pm which is late for children and there is no entertainment laid on for them. I do recommend the beach to the right (facing the sea) as is has sand and the beach where you go over the bridge is more like a fine shingle not sand so is hard to stand up. The sea water is chilly as the river which is from the snow covered mountains goes directly into the sea, but it seems to be warming up as the weather gets Warmer. Overall it’s been a very relaxing holiday. The road to the front has not really got many paths so the cars can get quite close, but the few shops are lovely catering for all and the people in and out of the hotel are really friendly. I would still come again and would recommend to adults or older children. We didn’t go anywhere as we were here for a chilled holiday as it was the first for a few years. But Chanda is around an hour away and seems a hit with a lot of people.

We visited Kalyves Beach Hotel in September 2021. The hotel is adhering to strict covid procedures, and we felt safe the whole time we were there. We were very happy with our room, great view over pool and out to the sea. The bed was really comfortable and we slept really well. The shower room is small but it's functional. The reception staff are lovely and very helpful. We found Penelope and her team professional and friendly. Food was of a very good standard and the waiting staff are brilliant. They provide gloves and hand sanitiser to be used at all meal times. The snacks during the day were great. The beach to the right of the hotel is lovely, but the sea was freezing!! The beach to the right is perfect. Sunbeds and parasols are free. The pool area is kept clean and is a nice place to sit and have a drink. The beach bar - we took the vip gold wrist band option, at 10 euros pp per day. When we asked for a premium beer (Mythos), we were told that it wasn't included by the bar girl. We spoke to reception and they sorted it out for us very quickly, as it was included. So I'd say there is a bit of confusion about whats included in the vip drinks, check with reception if in doubt, they will be helpful. Most of the time the drinks were ok, when served by the two men, but the girl served really weak drinks. She hardly put a splash of prosecco in the aperol spritz and I saw the pina colada came out of a pump machine. But when the older man made a cocktail it was done perfectly and what you'd expect for the vip upgrade. We took advantage of the discount in the spa, and I had a greek body scrub, massage and facial. It was a real treat and I felt brilliant afterwards. A bonus of vip was the free beach towels. The entertainment was ok. We loved the greek night and the belly dancer. A few nights there was a dj and people got up to dance which was fun. Overall we would stay here again, we were relaxed by the end of the week.

Once again, my partner and I went to Crete, once again used the services of Sea Crete Hotels, last year we stayed at the wonderful Kiani Beach Hotel, this year we chose the fantastic but smaller, more private, quiet Kalyves Beach Hotel. This year our stay was shorter as it lasted only 7 days but they were wonderful days spent at Kalyvs Beach Hotel. We chose a room with a sea view and the Vip All Inclusive option. The hotel is situated in the small town of Kalyves with a beautiful beach and several Greek restaurants, opposite the hotel there is a fantastic 1000 + 1 shop with wine, spices, oil and other small things typical of Greece.
The hotel room was comfortable, nothing was missing, and the view from the balcony to the beautiful sea made you smile every morning. I will not write about the room because we did not spend too much time in it.
The hotel is small but has enough sunbeds for sunbathing on the beach and by the two swimming pools, and there are umbrellas by the sunbeds. During our stay, we had the opportunity to participate in each theme evening organized by the hotel, the Greek evening made a special impression on us, during which we had a fantastic time.
The place is important during the vacation, but people are the most important, choosing Kalyves Beach Hotel, I knew that I would meet wonderful people here. The chef, Georgios, is my best friend, whom I love to talk to, just as much I love trying his wonderful dishes, he surprised us with his dishes every day. Costas, who served us wine, did it with such elegance that we felt special. Irene and Penelope working at the hotel reception desk were always helpful and polite, going out of their way to make sure we could rest. If relaxation is also about drinks, and for drinks, then of course the bartender Michael, who served us delicious drinks, perfect for hot days.
If anyone is wondering whether Kalyves Beach Hotel will be the right place to rest and relax, the answer is simple, of course yes.
We are already planning a vacation for next year and I know that we will visit our friends.

This is our second visit to this hotel. Each visit was in mid to late May before the season gets very busy. The location is lovely, Kalyves is a pretty and interesting village with lots of quaint alleyways to explore and good shops to browse in. The bus into Chania and Rethymno are only a short walk away. We love watching the ducks on the river by the outdoor dining area. The beach view from the bay is wonderful with the mountain backdrop. The reception staff at the Kalyves Beach headed by Penelope and her team are all very welcoming, friendly and polite. They are always ready to help with any queries and give out information on request. Our room was a side sea view looking across to the pool and spa building opposite. We could see the beach and sea clearly and watch the sunrise and sunset. Our room was spacious, spotlessly clean and had a nice balcony to sit out on and relax. Full marks also go to the cleaning staff and dining room staff who again are all very respectful, efficient and polite. We enjoyed the VIP all inclusive deal which was superb with many extras added to make our holiday even more enjoyable. One of the highlights of our week were two visits to the aegis spa. Niki the masseuse was excellent, very professional, knowledgeable and friendly. She went out of her way to explain the treatments and tailor them to fit our individual needs. In conclusion my friend and I both agree this is by far the nicest hotel we have stayed in compared to others on Crete and Corfu. We shall definitely be returning!

Just back from a 5 night stay at the Kalyves Beach Hotel as a party of 8 and overall is a great boutique hotel with a lovely beach front location, friendly staff and fantastic value for money if you take advantage of their promotions from their own website.

Our room was a good size and well decorated with tea and coffee making facilities and a welcome bottle of wine and water which was appreciated. A couple of downsides to the room is the view from the balcony which, due to layout of the hotel buildings meant you face the other balcony on the other building. This wasnt a problem for us but a consideration. The other was the air conditioning unit which was floor standing and didnt feel that effective. Again, it wasnt an issue for us in mid-October but could be an issue in the height of summer.

The bathroom was a little on the small side, as was the shower cubicle, but got the job done and the shower itself was great with an overhead "drench" style shower head fitted.

Our party stayed on an all-inclusive basis and the food and drink was very good with a relatively broad selection of items with some of the dishes rotated daily. If I was being picky sometimes the food could be a little on the cool side and the lunchtime selection tended to be a cut down version of the evening service but this is par for the course really and there was a snack area offering a selection of sandwiches and fruit if that was your preference.

The hotel facilities were again very good, offering comfy sunbeds both around the pool and exclusive areas of the beach which were all close to the poolside bar. The two outdoor swimming pools were very clean if a little on the small side and suffered from being mainly cast in shade by the hotel building for the majority of the day which meant it was a little on the cold side but I imagine this would be less of a problem in the summer months. Overall there was a sense that some of the facilities could do with a little repair / renovation due to wear and tear but nothing serious.

There was some evening entertainment on most of the days we were there but with the exception of the film quiz wasn't really our cup of tea however it was of a high quality.

The location of the hotel was excellent being right on a Fir tree lined beach front and a lovely clear fresh water stream draining into the sea. There was a couple of independent restaurants and bars next to the hotel which offer picturesque views although we never found much cause to frequent them given hotels own beach bar within easy reach offering a good selection of drinks. The town itself was on the quiet side but Chania is only a 20 minute taxi ride way and the rates were very reasonable.

Overall we had a fantastic time at the Kalyves Beach Hotel and given the fantastic value for money overall is now considered our benchmark hotel should we wish to visit the same region in Crete again.

We came here never having been to Crete with high expectations. Sadly the ‘all inclusive’ we booked is very selective. We can only get super sweet fizzy drinks and filter coffee on the all inclusive nothing else. The food is definitely average and we have eaten out quite a few times. Chicken and pork dishes all over cooked so they’re dry, potatoes that are hard and chips that are cold and hard. The cleaning of our room is very average - our balcony hasn’t been swept or mopped for days yet the busy public areas are mopped at 9 am ( busiest time of day) every day. As English we like tea but it is quite difficult to get milk. There is a coffee machine in our room but the capsules are 1 euro each on all inclusive. The ladies who clear the restaurant each day are the friendliest of the staff. The rest of the team are not and reception team are really quite frosty and unhelpful. The hotel doesn’t seem to have any trips to local attractions and we have really sorted these out for ourselves. On our last day there was nothing from the hotel re the procedure and then at 11 am we were locked out of our room as our key card wouldn’t work.

We stayed here after a mix up from our travel agent meant that the wrong rooms had been booked at the kiani beach resort. We arrived on Tuesday 12th April about 10pm. Evening food had finished but sandwiches were provided which was very welcomed. Our rooms had not been sorted correctly, we had 2 rooms booked with 2 adults and 2 children in each however, 1 had only been set up for 2 people. This was quickly sorted. We went to our rooms 145 and 146, one room wouldn’t lock so maintenance came and sorted that, no issues. The rooms have very small bathrooms, barely room to function. Rooms were clean. I asked what the entertainment was and we were told there was a Greek night each Tuesday (we arrived late Tuesday and left the next Tuesday). The hotel was quiet and very well placed for the beach, we only encountered 1 issue with noise on the Thursday evening. The food selection was fine, same as all all inclusive’s, repetitive but always something to choose from. The food was sometimes slow to be replenished and if you were later for breakfast then some items were not replenished. Due to the mishap with our original booking and contact with the hotels (hotels are sisters) it seemed like the reception team were a little funny with us, once when I asked to book a taxi the lady asked for my room number, she then looked at another receptionist, rolled her eyes and said ‘oh, our lovely families’. It made me feel very awkward and from then on we used a taxi rank around the corner to sort our trips, they were super helpful and can organise full days out for you. Rooms were cleaned daily and towels available as were sunloungers. I was disappointed with the lack of entertainment as although it was low season I had booked a family resort and expected things to do/watch. However surprisingly there was live music on the Monday evening. All the hotel staff (excluding reception) were lovely, helpful and kind. I would say a trip to Chania is well worth it and we also went over to the other side of the island over the mountains to different ports and beaches. It’s a nice place to go but size of bathroom is something to note and the lack of privacy in the rooms, especially when you’ve teenagers that want to get dressed and ready, no space to do it in the bathroom and the room completely open. Kids on put up beds, not proper beds and the cushions kept coming off.
Worth a visit though.

This is a difficult review to write but feel it necessary in order to give some balance to the very high reviews of others. The hotel is in a great location, right on the beach (soft white sand, easy to get in and out of the sea) and sandwiched inbetween a small river and another building. It has two small pools with comfortable sun loungers and an outdoor pool bar (this is the only bar as far as I could tell), seating and entertainment area. There is also an indoor pool but this didn't appear to be open. We did not use the spa so I can't comment on that. Reception staff seemed polite but others around the hotel didn't particularly make a great deal of effort to greet or chat with you (which is fine). We got a free bottle of local wine in our room which was a nice gesture. The all inclusive drink options are limited, the beer is not particularly great (varies between really flat or really fizzy) and the cocktails are limited to four options. The soft drinks are difficult to drink (if you are used to coke or pepsi) and the spirits don't seem to be as strong (despite the large servings) as in other places I have been to. The food was not as extensive as other all inclusives i have stayed at. Breakfast was probably the best meal but get in quickly for things like fried eggs as once they run out it can take a long time for them to be replenished. The rest of the meals where quite bland and not a massive choice of items. The room we were in had a generous balcony with seating and a big bed (2 beds pushed together) which was comfortable. The a/c was good and you could leave on when not in the room. The bathroom (as others have mentioned) is quite small, our sink was damaged and the pedal bin didn't work. Plenty of storage space and free to use safe.

Overall I would say it's more of a 3 star hotel but people say it's the best in Kalyves Beach. I'm not staying don't stay here but manage your expectations.

We went in October so no one was using the pool much. The sea was very calm on both sides of the little jetty thing. I don't think there are ground floor rooms but our room was quiet with a lovely sea view - but it was October!

Hello, thank you for your message. We do not have a problem with mosquitos due to the river, as it s free flowing river and not stagnant. Thank you and we hope to welcome you!
