Giulio, the owner have made and building from the around year 1200 into his own special place.
6 uniqe rooms and and awesome restaurant.
Giulio is the one that made our stay so special, he sat with us, talked about the place and mede us taste different wines and foods.
For us this was the most special hotel/ home we have ever been in.
You are the best Giulio and thank you for making us feel at home.
We will se you again.
Pål-Fredrik and Elisabeth
A unique address where six medieval houses have been transformed into a labyrinth of grottoes, suspended glass walkways, swirling metallic staircases and bedrooms with floating bed or bathroom carved out of the rock.
Mr. Giulio – the owner and perfect host - has created something exceptional from a 900 year old structure high up in Monforte.
All 6 rooms are unique, with a combination of ancient walls, glass floors, modern fittings, basins fashioned from tree trunks, all done with style and flair.
Downstairs, there is a bar and restaurant that is clearly popular with people in town, for good reason! The food put a novel twist on traditional Piedmonts food and was delicious. The waiter managed to match a wine perfectly to each course! Before dinner Mr. Guilio invited me to a tour of his awesome, high tech wine cellar I the cave!
My room (Dormouse -Camera Ghiro) was comfortable and beautifully decorated with a balcony. The minibar is stocked full of non-alcoholic drinks and some chocolates and biscuits, all free of charge!
The breakfast was perfect with coffee, juice, bread, cheese and charcuterie overlooking wine yards from the small balcony
This is a unique place with a relaxed atmosphere, producing a magical ambience. Thanks to Mr. Guilio for one of the most memorable stay I have ever had!
I hope to be back again soon! Highly recommended!
Regards
Svein-Magne Tunli from Bergen, Norway.
Giulio has created a fantastic hotel, restaurant, and wine bar by combing and renovating adjoining stone building, the oldest dating over 1,000 years old. No attention to detail has been missed and the architecture/design work is fabulous. Ancient and modern aesthetics combine to create a multileveled retreat that reveals fascinating details everywhere your eyes wander. As an architecture fan and having built and renovated several homes, I was awed by Guilio’s creation. Hard to imagine the time, effort, expense that went into this project.
We were fortunate to book the Ca ‘d Camiot suite and our friends had the Dormouse suite. Sarraca's website photos do not justice to these two story spaces.
Add to this unusual lodging the wonderful views from the windows and balconies in this lovely town.
Then add the most helpful, personable and kind B&B owner I have ever met. Not only did he welcome us with wine from his cantina, but he made restaurant and winery reservations for us, and confirmed each of them for us, made sure we had extremely explicit directions, and even led us to the wineries. After each meal or visit, he asked us what we thought. Our communications with him prior to the trip were prompt and (again) helpful.
I feel like I have to say something less-positive so I don't sound like I'm making this all up! There is no hot breakfast, other than tea and instant coffee with the tea kettle (the basket of fruit is replenished daily). We really enjoyed going each morning to the bar/cafe in the piazza for cappuccino and brioche for breakfast, but not everyone would like that. Oh, and get specific directions to get to Le Case from the owner, or use mappy.com (that worked for us).
The pictures on the website, for once, are not as good as reality! Obviously, I can't say enough wonderful about this place; it is unique and a special, special find.
The food in the restaurant is brilliant and so is the service. The menu is varied and thw food is made to the Italian standard. The wine list is incredible, with a whole lot of excellent vintages.
But the best part of our stay was having such a welcoming host, Giulio. He has extensive knowledge of the region and gave us great tips on places to visit. Thank you, Giulio - we hope to back sometime!
We returned to Le Case della Sarraca for dinner. It was fabulous, including a great bottle of Barbera d’Alba. For our primi, my wife and I each had the Ravioli di Casa, a wonderful meat-filled little pasta that tasted exactly like the ravioli my grandmother use to make. My secundi was a delectable rabbit dish, and my wife chose a second primi: a mushroom risotto that she absolutely loved.
Giulio’s property is unique, and a wonderful example of how an historic structure can be repurposed. The location of our table was an experience in itself. Instead of seating us in the main dining room, Giulio led us to the tower. Each landing of the old stone stairway held a table; we chose the table second to the highest level. The other tables quickly filled with other guests.
After dinner we ended up at the bar for some Grappa and Limoncello. Giulio came over and gave us a tour of his wine cellar. When I went to settle the bill, Giulio wouldn’t take any money and insisted that dinner was on him because of the mistake with our reservation.
Truly a wonderful ending for what could have been an awful experience.
