I spent 6 nights last week of February and loved it so much! I wish I stayed longer! Staff are the sweetest and make you feel like family. They all remember your name from the second they meet you.

The views! I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I was sometimes trying to sleep on a chair by the pool, but just had to keep my eyes open!

The place is super clean, you can see the staff take care of the surroundings all day long. Tents are big, well maintained and on the beach steps away from the waves. The tent's doors don't lock, so you might want to bring something to lock them if you have valuables. Shared bathrooms are probably the cleanest I've seen anywhere.

You'll have wifi only near the restaurant, so you might want to buy a Vodafone SIM card at the airport which is very cheap. Network is great on the island, even for videos.

You can walk in the island and do a few decent treks. You can see amazing sunrises on one side of the island, and sunsets on the other side.

There are 3 small pools to use on site.

Food is very expensive, and you have no choice to buy their plan like almost Fijian resorts . Lunch is a buffet, it is good enough, but I think the choices could be changed a little more often. Most of the nights, you will have a small menu à la carte which is very good. Staff sing Fijian songs during lunch and dinner which I thought was very pleasant.

Diving is also expensive compared to the rest of the world, but this is pretty much the price everywhere in the Fijis. It is very fun and most importantly, very safe. Equipment is very decent. You can also do snorkeling from the beach and swim with cute baby black tip sharks. You can borrow mask and fins at the dive shop. You can also do kayaking and paddle board.

One of my best trip ever in my life!

I heard a rumor that Barefoot could become a 5 stars resort soon. I hope it's not true. PLEASE don't do that. The charm and the warmth won't be the same (and I wouldn't be able to afford to come back). You are perfect the way you are now.

I hope to see you soon again!

I was hesitant to stay here for our entire vacation and ended up moving to a much costlier resort for our final 2 nights (which I regret). Barefoot Kuata was excellent! The people were SO genuine and the surroundings were spectacular! The water was clear and snorkeling the reef was absolutely amazing! The food was incredible and the entertainment was great! Granted, it's not a resort for everyone - there is no spa service or concierge. We were in an older tent, which was OK, but next time I will be sure to book my stay in either Tent 1/2/3/4 or in a private Bure (other family members stayed in both of these and they were worth the extra cost). The resort will be building several new Bure on the beach and those should be amazing! For the location, people, food, surroundings, and price, I'd give Barefoot Kuata 5/5 all day, every day (and this is where I will stay if I ever return to Fiji).

Bula Bula, Wow - what a review. Thank you so much for your kind words, this is greatly appreciated and warms our hearts. We're so happy that you still did decide to visit our island and that we were able to show you are beautiful island and Barefoot family. You'll be pleased to hear that the rooms that are currently being build, will eventually replace the room that you have been staying in - we'll be excited to show them if you return :) (which we hope you do!). Again, Vinaka Vakalevu for choosing Barefoot Kuata Island and we hope you'll visit your island family in the near future! Your Barefoot Kuata Family

The whole adventure started off with me booking Barefoot Manta because I found it reasonable even with the crazy resort fees that many islands resorts charge in Fiji. Then I found out it’s sister resort Barefoot Kuata offers diving with sharks and has cool hikes and activities. Since I only had one night I begged the staff to change my reservation. They pulled a rabbit out of a hat and made it happen as I was en route to the island (sister resorts so that made it easier).

A few pro tips for those trying to figure out how the islands off Nadi work. 1) if you fly into Nadi and have a few days only in Fiji then get off the main island and go exploring the smaller islands near by. 2) Yasawa islands chain is awesome with plenty to do on them. Though the Mamanuca chain is closer and Beachcomber looks unreal. 3) Awesome Adventures Ferry company runs like clock work and is great but they have a monopoly on the northern islands so they cost a small fortune, be prepared. And the limited number of ferries (one a day) makes it tricky if you have limited days.

Back to Barefoot Kuata. So the staff was amazing and the food pretty good (as part of the resort fee you get three square meals). I stayed in one of the dorm beds (trust me last time I stayed in a dorm was maybe a decade ago), which was clean and the bathroom facilities were great and also clean (hot water showers were questionable). They provide snorkeling equipment and kayaks for free which i definitely used and there is a great hike to the summit that is worth doing. I also did the dive with the sharks which was SUPER worth it!!

So in sum, amazing resort especially for the price and if you have two days to get a taste to see Fiji’s incredible islands then this is a great option. Huge Fan!!

A stunning location, relaxing, a comfortable ‘bure’ right on the beach, a range of activities and excellent food, but the lasting memory is of the locals we met. Genuinely warm and friendly – you feel you are staying with a local family rather than in a resort. To the management, you have a winning formula, with a mix of local influences combined with enough home comforts for your regular traveller. To Sala, Napolioni and all the staff, thank you!!

A ‘must do’ is the Bull Shark feeding dive. Being a novice diver, I did not think this was possible. At 10am I met Chloe (one of the dive instructors) and was kitted out in full diving equipment. Any apprehension I had soon went as Chloe expertly explained the equipment, ‘the dive’ and after a few practice runs in the shallows, her final words, ‘now I will be with you at all times, just relax and breathe normally”. By 11:30 and after a 30min boat ride, I was in 12m of water kneeling behind a rock, watching a dozen fully grown Bull Sharks being fed meters away!! Adrenalin stuff but I felt safe and after a while you do relax and admire the beauty and spectacle in front of you – an experience I will never forget. To Chloe and your fellow diving instructors – thank you!!

We had the best 6 nights enjoying the island and getting to know the Barefoot team. We travelled with two young boys ( 1 and 3 ) and they were so welcomed and entertained by the amazing staff.

The food is delicious buffet style and changed menu daily so you never feel like you are repeating a meal. Also kids dinner meals made seperate and can be ready at a time of your choice which was great.

The ambience at lunch and dinner with the singing was a really nice touch.

The bar is well priced and the cocktails very good - the best Yasawa Colada we have ever tried. Also a great selection of wines.

The grounds are kept beautiful, the pools cleaned daily and the ocean is stunning, the most impressive snorkelling right out from the beach front.

We stayed in a one Beachfront Bure and the extra space in the bathroom made it feel like we had more than enough space, also being right on the water makes you feel like you have a private beach, definitely worth the upgrade if you are considering it.

Unfortunately drinking water wasn’t available due to the recent storm so we had to purchase - again not too expensive so it wasn’t a problem.

If I had to make a suggestion it would be for tea and coffee to be available all day, but this isn’t a major and the staff are more than happy to help make one if you ask.

A special mention to Nathan and Abo for their kindness towards us and also Eli, Edith and Villy for making us feel welcome in the dining area. And of course to all the other staff who are just so friendly and helpful. We can’t wait to come back!

Absolutely incredible island with the most hospitable staff imaginable. Very accommodating and friendly. Particular shoutout to the dive team who are the epitome of professionalism - the shark dive is a must-do!

The island is small but there is plenty to do and the local reef which is right on the main beach is amazing, vibrant and full of life.

You need to pay for all meals on arrival but it is very reasonable and there is good variety in the breakfast and lunch buffets as well as a choice for dinner - all very tasty, and with a wide bar to match.

Please don’t hesitate to book!

What a beautiful place! We decided to splurge and get the seaside bure and it was delightful. At high tide our porch was about 20 feet from the water. The outdoor bathroom was fun too. Be aware that you have to buy a food package, but we really enjoyed the food. Yes, it is pretty much the same at each meal, but there are enough choices to make it interesting. The place really is "barefoot" as the entire resort can be accessed with no shoes. However, if you go on a hike, be sure to wear good shoes. We decided to try the summit hike and we never made it to the top! Now, we are both old (early 70s), but still pretty fit. However, with the heat and the slick path (it rained hard our first day and was still really damp the next day when we went) we had to give up. The folks who work here are simply wonderful and really do their best to make your stay wonderful. Most of the staff live on the next island over--and the place is owned by the people on the next island. Nice to stay somewhere that a big corporation was not taking the profits.

This place is incredible!! Your own personal Robinson Crusoe island. It's super small and chill, there are maybe 10 bures and a couple oof dorm tents, so it's very relaxing and you spend the whole time on the beach, diving, snorkelling (make sure you do the night snorkelling with the UV torch), and the staff go above and beyond to make you feel part of the family – from the bar staff to the chefs to the dive shop to the singers every night. Loved, loved, loved, can't wait to come back. Plus it's only 2hrs on the Yasawa Flyer ferry from Port Denerau.

Despite booking months ago for our honeymoon and communicating with them about our arrival time etc. we receive an unapologetic message saying they "couldn't charge the credit card provided" (no payment request received by our credit card provider) so they gave our room to someone else and just told us we have been downgraded to a worse room 3 days before we are due to arrive. When we told them that this is unacceptable they just cancelled our booking.

Bula Jacqueline your review is disturbing reading. While an investigation is underway, I am of the understanding your booking was not cancelled at short notice but rather, it was never entered into our reservations system. Regardless of how the cancellation came about this is clearly poor communication on our part and we sincerely apologize. In the event you can manage the time during your stay in Fiji we would welcome the opportunity to host you overnight or for a day visit to Barefoot Kuata Island Resort. Should you wish to discuss this issue further or take up our offer please contact me via email dosm@bfcfiji.com Vinaka Kaveni

What an amazing experience it was to stay here. The new cabins were great, the food was good, the staff were so friendly and helpful. This is one of the few places on the planet where you can safely snorkel and dive with reef sharks and even Bull sharks, its a life changing experience. To dive safely with Bull sharks is incredible and so highly recommended. The dive crew are so caring and safe, and it's obvious that the owners and staff are so caring and passionate about the resort and guests, the local culture, the reef and the incredible number of fish species there. The shark talks of a night were educational and between the value of the presentations and the snorkelling and diving, the staff are certainly doing their part in educating guests in what is under the water.

Hi Melissa, the dive shop on Kuata is very receptive to customizing your dive to match your interests and diving skill set. I feel confident that they will be able to come up with a dive an an area around the island that will fit your needs.

Yes, they readily accept credit card. Non Fijian credit card has a 3.5% surcharge though. They will only ask you to settle the bill on the day of your departure or the day before & it is perfectly fine not to bring any cash
