I would never stay here again mainly due to the fact that I found a dead cockroach in my food. The food itself is appauling I found it hard to eat anything the entire time I stayed here and then the cockroach in the gravy topped it off. Another lady staying also found a cockroach on her plate. The chicken tasted wrong I hate to imagine how long it was sitting there before being served. The resort also ran out of all alcohol, coke, snacks AND water! This is shocking considering there is no safe drinking water available. We went to south sea island after this and it was like a palace compared to this place and not a cockroach in sight.

After reading all of the negative reviews we had very low expectations, but ended up having a great time! We were in a dorm with 8 beds (4 bunk beds) and had a really nice stay (2 nights here is ideal). Here are some details:

STAFF/SERVICE: Typical Fijian hospitality…very friendly and accommodating.

AMENITIES:
-We booked the Awesome Adventures “Lazy Threesome” Package, which included all meals. Past reviews really paint a dim picture on the food but we really enjoyed it and never went hungry (and I am a big eater). Breakfast included cereal, fruit and toast, lunch was typically one plate and vegetarian (not the most filling), but dinner was plentiful and one night they did a traditional Fijian feast cooked in the Lavo (the crab was great). They will ask if you have allergies but then do not actually review what you write so be sure to remind them before your meals. Drinking water was not provided with each meal so be prepared to buy a large water for $6.
-Drinks – Beer was about $5 and a rum with a can of coke was $10. *Tip - There is nothing stopping you from bringing your own bottle and mixer, but don’t wait until Port Denaru to do your shopping…it’s incredibly overpriced for booze.
-You can find coconuts and open them yourself for the milk and meat
-Electricity only during certain times of the day

ACTIVITIES:
-Not a whole lot to do besides relax, but we’re not complaining about that
-Ocean is decent but definitely not the clear blue water you might expect and we could not find good snorkeling (even at Honeymoon Beach)
-Swimming is good at high tide
-Nightly entertainment – We were only there 2 nights and both nights had almost identical dances. The crew is talented so this was more comical than actually annoying, although I couldn’t have sat through it for a 3rd night in a row. The games were really great…especially “Bang Bang” and “Water, Sand, Land”
-The staff lit a nice fire each nice…if you’re lucky like us you’ll have someone who can play guitar to make for the idyllic campfire sing-along before bed

ROOM/BATHROOM:
-We were really lucky to get the dorm over the water. Definitely request this over the dorms above the dining hall. At high tide, you are literally above the ocean and the sounds of waves lapping the shore couldn’t be more peaceful at night.
-Bathrooms and showers were clean. No hot water but the water temperature was fine. Water pressure was somewhat of an issue so test all available showers to find the best one.
-Flies were an issue on this island, so bring repellant and use it. Use the bug nets around the beds too (we didn’t but wish we did).

COMMON AREAS:
-Indoor dining area
-Outdoor entertainment and campfire area
-Hammocks
-Volleyball court

LOCATION:
-3.5 hours from Port Denaru
-Truly remote and wonderful to be that far from the mainland…just make sure you have any necessary medications very close by (including asthma sprays and epi pens if necessary)!

Don't mistake it, this is a BUDGET '1 coconut' option, and for that, it is pretty good. Some of the more negative reviewers may have been better off in '2 coconut' accomodation. We stayed in one of the bures, which had a basic clean room, toilet and outdoor shower. The staff were awesome. Very polite and accommodating - the guys are pretty young and love to have a laugh and joke around - this may appeal to a bit of a younger crowd.

Meals are set and are decent enough - the portions were on the small side for some people, but there are snacks that you can buy. Beer is decently priced aswell.

The beach is not necessarily amazing, especially in comparison to other beaches in the region - you can walk over to 'Honeymoon' beach which is nicer.

I cannot recommend the manta ray trip enough. This was truly amazing.. the weather was terrible and many people did not want to go - a few of us went regardless, and could not stop raving about it (the manta rays don't care if it is raining :)

I'd definitely stay here again.

We had a great week. The place was heavenly and the beach magnificent. super nice family. We ate very well, it was plentiful.
We saw the manta rais we were so happy. And we also had a great coconut opening demo.
The problems related to comfort were clarified before so it did not bother us, the connection and electricity problems allowed a real disconnection. We really enjoyed it, we don’t regret it, it was exceptional.

Ok well me and my boyfriend who were at the time of stay, backpackers, are used to roughing it and staying in rustic places on the cheap. However, White Sandy is not rustic, it is horrific. Ok, the staff were false and insincere in their welcome. They ignored us when we asked them questions, literally blanked us (incredible right?), and generally made us feel like we were a burden.
The food is served for you like you are a school child at designated dining times at 8;00 am, 1:00 pm and 7:00 pm and you cannot eat anything in between unless you want to (and who would?) £5.00 on a packet of processed coconut cookies mass produced in china!
Their food was vile. And trust me I am not that fussy. The portion size was meagre. I am into lean portions because I like to stay slim on holiday if I can but I mean these portions were pathetic! I heard other people at the resort complain and become angry when they saw how small these portions were. And it is all to reduce costs for the resort. They basically keep costs to a minimum and they don't care about whether you are left faint with hunger or ill from undercooked chicken, flies on your soup and rice which is 4 days old!! I had food poisoning twice at this resort.
There were rats in our room. Dirty rats of an ugly grey palour and who chewed at our bed sheets and generally ruined our sleep. We told the resort owners and they laughed and told us to remove the rats ourselves. Not good service.

The room was tiny and dirty. The bathroom had not been washed since the last user because there was toothpaste in the sink when we arrived and the toilet seat was broken and wet.
Many other travellers complained f the rooms and got no response from the owners.
The island is small and boring with no trips except a manta ray trip which to be honest was not appealing because after 2 nights of food poisoning and bad sleep due to rats manta rays lose their allure!
They lie to you about the tap water, claiming its dirty to make you spend your hard earned money on bottled water at £3-4 a bottle. I am really not exaggerating. It was terrible! Just use water purifcation tablets in the tap water and save yourself the money. I did this and was fine. I recieved food poisoning after eating rice not the tap water!
I hated this resort. I felt so disappointed that this was Fiji. The beach was ugly and pebbley.
I am a tolerant and upbeat person who normally seeks the best in things but I am telling you, this resort pushed the buttons in all the wrong ways!
I hope you find this helpful!

Myself and my three best friends stayed here early January 2015. Upon arrival we thought we had hit the jackpot when we were told there was running water with no 'turned off' periods as the previous island we had just stayed at had no running water due to a draught. The manager took us to our rooms and said if we needed any thing or if we had any problems, to come see her. This was the last time we saw her. Our room from the outside looked beautiful however once we got inside we found out that it was the exact opposite. The bug nets on the windows were ripped allowing the bugs and small skinks to come in. Only two of the 4 beds had mosquito nets, one of which had a ants nest down the side and the other had a mattress full of bed bugs - both of which we didn't find out until the following morning. The 'running water' was far from it. Bearly enough water to have a shower let alone wash your hands or flush the toilet. Also the giant cockroaches crawling up the shower drain wasn't ideal in a room with four girls. All I can say about the food is - don't be fooled by the service and presentation. It was disgusting. They also have basically nothing at the 'shop' where you can buy food and drinks so if you can't stomach the meals you will go hungry.
We made the desission to leave early, it was obvious the staff wanted us to miss the ferry back to Denarau. They didn't make any effort to load our luggage on to the smaller boat they used to take us out to the ferry - we had to sternly tell them that they were to start taking us out to the ferry.
Over all it was terible. Unless you are really into being with bugs 24/7 and have an ion stomach don't stay here.

I went to White Sandy Beach on an island hopping tour. A member of staff robbed 240 Australian dollars from my padlocked backpack and a following 500 Fijian dollars from 4 other people in the dorm rooms. The police are involved and the case is going to court.

On top of this the facilities are disgusting. Our dorm room shower leaked sewage into our room, there was repeatedly no toilet paper, and the toilets were never cleaned. The kitchen was dirty with ants everywhere and the food left something to the imagination. They also ran out of bottled water. Overall avoid at all costs!

I still cannot believe we actually had to pay for this.

Note : if you dont want to read the whole painful story, just check the pics, especially the giant cockroach

We got White Sandy instead of some other resort they said was no longer available. I tend to think it was karma having us pay back for all the sins we had made since childhood. Don't get me wrong - I have been to Cambodia, Laos or remote parts of   Philippines and I did not expect this to be Four Seasons.

The beach itself is ok, there is a couple of hammocks in front of each bure. Nice to watch the sun go down or read a book under the palm trees. The insects are a little annoying but some spray can handle that. Swimming and snorkeling is ok. The honeymoon beach is a bit messy but still ok.

The bures look ok from the outside but are just filthy inside. I was able to see 3 of them (out of 5). The bathrooms are just disgusting. I was totally scared to put my toe on the bathroom floor as I dont think they ever clean it. Our friends got an outside bathroom which was a little better so we all shared that one. I strongly believe the reason for this is pure ignorance, not lack of knowledge or detergents or whatever. The last night a giant cockroach walked out of the washbasin (picture attached). Luckily, no bedbugs. I doublechecked.

The greatest disaster : the FOOD : apart from the fact you eat it in a dark ugly shed, you get a mat under your plate that looks like the sea spitted it out after some Chinese factory had dumped it with their trash into the ocean. The shed would happily accomodate a nest of bats if they could survive the freaking Despacito playing all the time. On top of that it is lit by flashing christmas lights that could give you a stroke if you stare at it for long enough.
The food they serve is very low quality. I would not feed a stray dog with it. One day you'll get two thin slices of greasy deep-fried aubergine and an overcooked potato with a teaspoon of canned tuna on top. In 6 hours you'll get rice, coleslaw and stinky fish curry. We survived our stay on Coke and Oreo. For breakfast there are tough doughnuts that taste like paper, 10 pcs of papaya, a small jug of warm milk and a box of cornflakes. The only protein I got in two days was from the protein bar I carry for emergency.

Btw they added new locks onto the door of each bure. 2 out of 3 did not work. I guess its because of the money allegedly stolen from some guests. Still, creepy people circle around the bures all afternoon, checking if anybody is in. If they notice you, they just smile and go away. For a while.

Conclusion:
Dear manager of White Sandy Beach, screw the resort. I can see the purpose of this place being a perfect spot for a tacky horror movie. It could make this place famous. Or it could prevent other people from encountering White Sandy, which is even a better idea.

Upon arrival, we were greeted with a nice looking beach with amazing views and what looked like tidy houses along the beach. During our check in, we were told that there was limited electricity and water. We did not mind this at all but we were told that the times for electricity and water varied and that we just needed to keep an ear and eye out. Our little house looked neat from the outside but once we settled, it was anything but nice. There was an ants nest, several giant cockroaches and our mosquito curtains had holes in them. Lunch and dinner was okay but breakfast was "cake"- we were left hungry after our meals. We decided we would buy snacks only to realize they had none to sell. Activities on this island was very limited and we had done all the activities we could do within hours, being left bored. There were no other people on the island cept the four of us friends. I do not advise anyone to come here for a trip. We ended up cutting our trip short (we only stayed for ONE night) on this island and staying in Denaru. This place was a nightmare.

When I first arrived at this resort I found the staff friendly and welcoming. I thought that the accommodation looked nice and that they were going to be a lot of fun (like on the other Yasawa islands I had stayed).

Unfortunately, this was short lived. The staff soon became rude and one thing I found particularly shocking was that the member of staff who was serving dinner was actually listening to big green and white headphones. On a positive note, the food is actually quite nice and you do receive a three course meal.

On the first night I stayed they ran out of all alcoholic and soft drinks. This was a little disappointing as there were a good group of us socialising and some more drinks would have been fun. I expected the drinks to be restocked the next day seeing as the Yasawa Flyer runs daily, however this never happened.

Another thing I found particularly rude was when I went to ask about getting a drink, I looked into the kitchen via the little shutter like doors and then this was rudely shut in my face. I also witnessed a woman asking about pain killers due to her husband badly hurting his neck and she was sat waiting for over fifteen minutes for a member of staff to come and assist her. I fully appreciate "Fiji time", but this is unacceptable when running a holiday resort.

The worst thing that happened was that a fellow traveler got a considerable amount of money stolen and this we all suspected of the staff as it disappeared on a night that we were all hurried out of the dinning area and 'pushed' into going to the resort next door. (This resort is a lot nicer, if you are on White Sandy Beach you should spend the majority of the time here, although there is a fee to use the pool).

The dorm room I stayed in was quite nice. The room was clean and every bed had a mosquito net. The beds were pretty sturdy, but the mattresses were thin and uncomfortable. There are lots of hammocks for you to sit in and seeing as there are not many activities to do, it was nice to relax and read.

I did a 11 night Awesome Adventure tour and you meet the same people throughout your stay on the Yasawa Flyer or at different resorts. This is a really good to get to know lots of different people. This also gives you the chance to hear others experiences on certain resorts. White Sandy Beach was regularly a resort that travelers did not like. A common theme I heard was that the staff are not friendly, and in a place like Fiji where the majority of the staff are so hospitable, friendly and genuinely lovely, this really sticks out like a sore thumb.

I definitely definitely definitely have to say...do not stay here.
