Yes, they have mice. No, I didnt see any. Although you do hear them at night but being forewarned I was prepared to ignore them and slept well (if you are a light sleeper this may not be the case). The "rooms" (lodges/chalets/huts) were clean, comfortable and well appointed, making the most of the views. The service was great and the views.. humbling. Toiletries provided. No phone in the "room" so be prepared to treck to reception (furthest room is about a 6 minute walk so bring a hat for the day and a flashlight for the night!) Feels secluded, remote, a little luxurious and private, perfect to switch off and enjoy your holiday.

Our group was stunned to drive up to this lodge, seemingly in the middle of nowhere. We had lovely rooms looking out over the desert, where it seemed that the Oryx featured in each one of our stays (except Luderitz) was waiting for us, and even joined by a friend. We had excellent walks around the barren area but a few birds joined us. The food was very good, the staff excellent and though we were a ways from the Namib-Naukluft National Park, our guide was very thorough in explaining things to us and keeping us entertained until we arrived at the park. We were able to climb "Big Daddy" and learned about the dry riverbeds and dead trees. Even about the little bugs and animals that keep things going. I managed to break my wrist and discovered that there was a good "Red Cross" kit that could stablize my wrist until getting to health care the next day. There were many other activities that could be booked, but we were happy to sit on our patios and look out at the vista. The rooms were ample, the lodge lovely. The pool was a hit at the heat of the day. Our receptionist looked at us and said, "horseback riding.......ah, no, maybe not." (we are not in the younger crowd.) We had a good laugh. By all means I recommend this Lodge.

We had a wonderful stay here. Our cabin had the most gorgeous view across the desert and to the waterhole. We awoke with the sunrise reflecting off the hills just beyond the foot of our bed! Even the toilet had a glorious outlook! We were a bit concerned about being so far from the Namib Naukluft Park but the excursion we took there from the property with our guide Johannes just could not have been better! We even climbed “Big Daddy”! The Staff at Desert Homestead Outpost were wonderful and the chef went out of his way to accommodate some dietary issues.

A beautiful, isolated location out in the desert, and yet not too far for a morning drive to Sossusvlei. Hotel has a watering hole frequented by oryx, ostrich and springbok, lovely to watch throughout the day. Staff are all excellent, friendly and helpful. Food is very good, a large dinner. They can pack breakfast bags for early morning trips which are enough food for most of the day!

Spent three memorable nights at this smaller and more intimate companion to the Desert Homestead. The accommodation – canvas-sided luxury huts is a better description than tents – was very comfortable, though it did get a little noisy when we had heavy winds on our last night! The communal area around the small pool was also lovely (nicely shaded and sheltered from the wind), as was the deck and dining area above it. The views are expansive and, unlike some lodges in the area, there is no other lodge (or any public road) in sight or sound. During our stay Oryx were regular visitors to the waterhole, which is about 100 metres from the lodge balcony, and Springbok, Ostrich and Jackel also made occasional appearances. The food was very good, with 5-course set menus every night; it’s worth taking a few moments to talk to the chef when he pops out to say hello at the end of every dinner setting. Similarly, a big thank you to the fabulous staff, all of who were friendly and welcoming, as well as being highly professional. Didn't see any mice, having followed the lodge's advice about not leaving food, etc, about our rooms; commonsense really, animals live in deserts!
