**Glenavy's Waitaki River Motor Camp**
We stayed here for one night, and it was beautiful. Everything is well organized, well-maintained, and clean. The friendly owners go above and beyond to ensure that guests feel comfortable. There are toys for the kids, a great playground, a well-equipped kitchen, and lovely warm showers with clean toilets. I give it a ten out of ten and 100% recommend it!

I totally love this place. Our studio cabin was amazing. Everything inside and out was brand new with absolutely gorgeous design. This was the cherry on top for the last night of our week long holiday down south. We stopped here after a hideous previous booking in the Brydone Hotel in Oamaru (which we refused to stay). We were happy that the Brydone Hotel was disgusting as we would never have found this gem of a place. The hosts (and fur and woollen family members) were very friendly and helpful. I am an animal lover so I was in my happy place when I found we were next to their baby lambs and goat, chickens and chicklets. The animals were not noisy at all but loved having pats. The rooms were equipped with everything we needed with double glazing on the windows and it was lovely and warm with no need for heating. We will definitely be popping back down to stay very soon just because we can. Thanks for the perfect end to my 50th birthday holiday.

Why would you stop at Glenavy? to experience this hidden gem of a camping ground.
It is just lovely. Very clean and well presented. The hosts are amazing and you are made to feel very welcome.
We stayed in the 2 bedroom apartment and everything was there to have a really comfortable stay.
We also went to the local hotel for a meal and it was beautiful and a fraction of the price you would expect to pay in the larger towns.

Thanks so much Leisureliners for this fabulous recommendation. How lucky we are to have the Glenavy hotel within walking distance and also serves such delicious food 5 nights a week. Hope to see you again sometime. Safe travels.

We visited the Waitaki River Motor Camp on a touring holiday in a car, during a quiet period in February. It had a number of excellent qualities but there were a couple of things we were less than thrilled with.
The washrooms and kitchen were well maintained and clean. Unexpectedly the kitchen was fully equipped with frying pans, plates, knives, cutlery etc and there was dish washing liquid and dish towels so you could clean up after your meal. This was absolutely fantastic.
The guest laundry was OK but didn't seem as spotless as the other shared facilities and unfortunately the pegs for the washing line had all been removed by previous guests.
Our cabin was tiny and this is the main reason we would not go back. It was inconvenient that we could not open our two medium-sized suitcases in the cabin at the same time. We had also expected easy access to the river based on the photos of the camp ground but getting to the river required us to walk along side the busy highway and then we could not actually reach the river to explore it anyway.
Wifi worked well in the kitchen & sitting area but not in our cabin.
The hosts were super friendly and seemed to really enjoy interacting with the few guests that were staying during our visit.

Thanks MelbourneKaz, we nearly got it right for you. The cabins are what they are, most of our guests love them. Our description and location of our campground and distance to the river is no secret. It is at least a 5 minute walk and the river is constantly changing making access very difficult at times. Not sure why you had trouble with the wifi in your room. We try to keep everyone as comfortable and happy as possible and we are really sorry if you were disappointed.

We didn't like anything.
The campsite is located between the expressway and the railway line. This makes it very noisy even at night.
The whole system seems compulsive, loveless and sterile. We would have accepted this with just one night's stay, but after 6 weeks of exclusively good encounters in NZ, the encounter with Andrew was completely disturbing.
At check-in, he was already out of tone when I asked kindly where the booked room (that was the name of the cabin at booking.com) was.
Meanwhile, my husband leaned against a wooden railing, which then broke off. We apologized, of course, and offered to pay for the damage, but he refused. He claimed that my husband sat on the railing and shouted insultingly at both of us.
I could not sleep because the aggressive appearance of this gentleman actually scared me.
That this was justified became apparent the next morning; on my way to the shower, the man followed me with the quad bike, cut off my path and again made inappropriate, loud accusations. I think the man has massive problems and he lacks the social skills to meet guests appropriately!
The positive reviews amaze us a lot and raise questions about their authenticity.

Nestled near the Waitaki River, this riverside campground offers spacious sites, and top-notch amenities. Excellent facilities, including clean restrooms, BBQ areas, and cabins. Perfect for relaxing by the water and exploring nearby attractions. Really handy for a stop-off on a long South Island trip.

Our site was level and close to all amenities. Michelle and Andrew our friendly hosts made us welcome and we enjoyed Happy Hour with fellow travelers and locals. Our one night stop was repeated 2 weeks later with 2 nights and an exploration of the quaint fishing villages nearby. A well maintained camp worth a visit

This is a stunning camp. The kitchen & communal BBQ areas have everything you need. The large play area makes for an ideal place for families to play. Our cabin was well appointed with very comfortable beds & bedding.

Good spacious park with good, clean facilities. Stayed on a power site. Allowed to dump rubbish and recyclables. Some road noise as adjacent to highway. Never seen so many notices in a facilities block, all in capital letters. No doubt some users need to be directed not to do this or that but it is unfriendly. Booked in through a male that was working in the grounds. He took my cash but did not want me to register. Gave me the impression that he would pocket the money or neglect to declare the income. Not good.

Very clean facilities with everything we needed for our stay. Cosy cabins & spacious garden like grounds. Everything thought of including kids outdoor toys. Very friendly & generous hosts. Pet friendly too. Close to the fishing & geological delights of the waitaki district. Highly recommended.
