We booked this stay for 2 nights to take our 90 year old Aunt to her place of birth, for maybe the last time. We are 6 sisters and booked 2 triple rooms and a seafront suite for her. We were made very welcome on arrival by lovely staff on reception. Our rooms were next to each other on 4th floor, aunts was 3rd floor, the suite was spacious, massive bed in bedroom, leather sofa in lounge aunt was over the moon with it! Our rooms were spacious with a double bed in one section going through to a single bed in another separate section, we were pleased with them but being an old hotel they were a bit hot so needed a fan but staff had no problem getting us one. The hotel is very oldy worldly and a bit musky in places as to be expected, but it is a beautiful building with great features, the piano bar is more a lounge area, very relaxing. Breakfast was excellent staff so attentive and friendly, all you could possibly want to eat and very well cooked one gluten free need was met very well. Such a lovely stay at this hotel look forward to coming back!

Ideally placed on the sea front road, with the beach and promenade opposite. There were only 3 car park spaces on the hotel forecourt but we easily found parking in the road; it might be an issue in busy periods, It seemed, however that no inspection of the rooms had taken place prior to our arrival, as there were a number of issues that should have been resolved both in our room and in our companions'. There is a nice lounge area overlooking the sea. One receptionist was very rude, otherwise the staff were friendly and caring.

My friend and I booked one night at this grand Old Hotel, for my my daughters wedding(venue at another place) I must say how delighted we were, room 402 was comfortable, freshly decorated and spotlessly clean. Breakfast was delicious, everything cooked well the sausages were outstanding. Last but not least, the staff were so polite and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Lastly going to sleep wasn't a problem as the gentle sound of the surf lulled me to sleep quickly plus the bed was spotlessly clean and comfortable. I look forward to visiting this delightful hotel again and would recommend it to anyone. Thank you lovely staff, with old fashioned curtesy, a rare quality these days

It's hard to know how to rate this hotel. If you expect large beds and luxurious carpets you'll be disappointed. But if you appreciate the graceful proportions of the old building and its spectacular location on the seafront you'll be delighted. It's a grand hotel built for rich people from a very different era. Today the grandeur has faded and the decor and facilities are far below modern standards. ... And the staff know it and they compensate by being super helpful. The owners would need to spend at least £1m on refurbishment to bring it up to date but then would anyone want to pay the increased room rates? As it is now it is reasonable value for money for a large seaview room. We stayed there for a week in the summer and loved it. St Leonards is a lovely town with plenty of places to eat and very interesting independent shops. We will go again.

Room Tip: Book a sea view room at the front of the hotel. Don't expect clean windows.
