This was my 5th visit, and I asked myself “could it be as good as last time”. Well Spice Island, you surpassed yourselves.
From the minute you arrive, to the minute you (sadly) leave, every whim and wish is indulged. There is no such word as “no” and the management and staff have somehow nailed super high end luxury with a laid back relaxed atmosphere which leaves you wanting to stay another 2 weeks, if only!

Stayed in a Seagrape Beach Suite with wheelchair access and had a wonderfully relaxed week just before Christmas when the resort was quiet. Had been considering one of the villas with private pool but these are not suitable for wheelchair users. That was fortuitous because having a room opening directly on to the beach actually seems better. Using ramps we could get around the resort well and the restaurant staff were very helpful getting us set up and remembering our requirement for straws and special cutlery. Compared to other Caribbean hotels I investigated, the provision for wheelchair guests was extremely good. That’s not to say things couldn’t be improved further. In no particular order
• Provision of a hoist to help disabled guests in and out of the swimming pool would be great.
• A dedicated disabled toilet somewhere in the central area of the hotel would be really useful.
• The toilet in the room was low meaning that my companion needed help accessing it (it would be useful to have a raised toilet seat that sits on top of a normal toilet).
• The rails in the bathroom and toilets in the lobby didn’t seem perfectly placed – might be worth getting a specialist consultant in to advise.
• Would be nice if there were a path that allowed wheelchair users access to sun loungers right on the beach – maybe a temporary path that could be rolled out each morning.
Although there is only one restaurant on site for dinner we found the variety and quality of the food to be excellent with creative use of local ingredients. Breakfast worked well with a buffet for some items and cooked breakfasts to order including local specialities as well as standard favourites like eggs benedict.

We spent a week at Spice Island Beach Resort and had an absolutely fantastic family holiday. From the time we arrived at the hotel until the time we left we were treated with superlative hospitality. Nothing was too much trouble and every need and request was willingly met by the competent and obliging staff. The food was both good and diverse with the evening menu changing every night.

We enjoyed spending time at the swimming pool which was meticulously maintained by Michael.

Our accommodation was extremely comfortable with all facilities. The sliding doors of the room opened directly on to the spectacular Grand Anse beach where sun loungers were available for the hotel guests use. Drinks were freely available whether you were on the beach or relaxing by the pool.

Our children who are both quite busy were welcomed with open arms by the hotel staff. There is also a very good kids club where a diverse range of activities are available and encouraged.

We have traveled the Caribbean extensively and are both of the opinion that Spice Island Beach Resort is a real gem of the Caribbean and a must visit venue. A number of the guests have stayed at the resort on numerous occasions with 2 couples that we met having stayed on 10 separate occasions.

We will definitely be returning to a spice Island and would like to thank both the management and staff for such a wonderful and memorable holiday.

I had really high expectations of Spice Island. I accept I must be in the minority but my husband and I spent ten days there last March and although he enjoyed it more than I did we both felt for the money it should be considerable better.
We arrived after a flight from the U.K. and were met as promised at the airport. The car had seen better days though and the driver was not very personable. I say this because on departure, after we had left a significant gratuity with the management for back office staff, we were escorted out to a luxury Mercedes and our driver was exemplary and professional.
We stayed in an Almond Suite. I didn’t want to stay in a Sea grape suite as they are right on the public beach and it does get noisy, at one end is a bar where the booze cruise docks. No fault of the hotel though.
The Almond Suites have a lovely pool and are very private. I didn’t like the fact that the wardrobes are in the bathroom. There is no walk in shower, you actually have to climb over a wide ledge as the shower is over the bath. I noticed the grouting needed replacing which I thought was bad. The overall square footage of the room is generous, especially the outside area but the bedroom itself is quite small with not much room to sit and relax unless you sit on the bed.
My main dislike of Spice Island was Oliver’s restaurant. It needs a refurbishment. It’s dreary with old fashioned blanquette seats that reminded me of old Beefeater Inns.
Breakfast was poor, at least the buffet was. They kept running out of natural yogurt, the fruit selection was limited as were the breads and pastries. My husband ordered cooked a la Carte which he enjoyed but it would take an age to arrive as did the luke warm coffee.
Lunch is served in an adjacent restaurant and was better, as was the service, most days. The buffet lunch was served one day and again it was ok but nothing spectacular.
Dinner is in Oliver’s. The choice is plentiful but to me missed the mark. One night we didn’t like anything in the menu and went to have dinner at Calabash. The food, service and ambiance was far superior to Spice Island but we didn’t like the hotel as much.
Spice island is charming and the staff are lovely. The guests were predominantly, at the time we stayed, rather elderly and so the bar was dead in the evening. Perhaps at a different time of year it would have more atmosphere.
We enjoyed our holiday and perhaps an average rating is a little harsh but we have just returned from 10 nights in The Maldives and paid less at a far superior five star resort on an all inclusive basis in a better pool suite, travelling business class than we did at Spice Island.

This is an outstanding hotel! It’s typical in style of several great Caribbean hotels; an open and airy design with fresh clean decoration set in a prime beach location. What makes Spice Island stand out are the staff, first class service and the exceptional quality and choice of freshly cooked food. All of the staff without exception are friendly, personable and very professional. During our week stay the quality of the freshly prepared food was amazing every meal, worthy of any fine dining restaurant.

We stayed in a Seagrape room which is a great choice of accommodation with direct beach access and your own patio area with loungers and hammock. The beach is made up of fine golden sand with plenty of loungers for the guests and a scattering of trees for shade if you need it and stunning sunsets to follow every evening.

As fantastic as the hotel is make sure you get out to look around the island, the brightly coloured houses against the rainforest backdrop make wonderful scenery and photos.

The best hotel and Caribbean island we have visited.

Were were upgraded to a sea front room, which was very nice and all one could wish for, clean, bright, all the facilities you wanted and if there was anything you needed or wanted you only had to ask and it was brought to you promptly. Although there was only one restaurant, the food was as good probably better than any of the restaurants in Grenada with always a change of menu and choice, the all inclusive was top class, the staff were always friendly and helpfull. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

If your looking to get away to a place that offers tranquility, no crowds, and incredible service Spice Island will not disappoint. No there is not a big night life scene, no drinking contests by the pool. Just a family that is ready to serve your every need. We stayed in a Beach Suite and literally were less than 10 paces from the surf. Our room was impeccably decorated and was so clean you could eat off the floor, base boards or tiles. Really it was that clean! Some reviews state that the menu can get old....well the person writing it must be old! The menu had incredible options all cooked to order with local fresh ingredients. A true high end dining experience at every sitting. Our manager even told us that with enough advance notice they would cook us anything we wanted. He challenged us to do just that. You will get picked up at the airport by one of their courteous drivers and brought to a secluded hideaway within minutes. We have traveled the world and this ranks right up there with one of the best places we have stayed along with the best service we have ever received. You will not be disappointed.

Situated on a beautiful white sandy 2.5 mile beach, this resort greets you with a friendly and helpful attitude. Quickly learning your name and addressing you by name each time. Food beautifully presented and with a wide variety. Drinks and cocktails on tap. Facilities were excellent the room we were in opened onto a patio on the beach with a hammock and two sun beds. There were sun beds on the sand a few yards away so the sun beds on the patio remained on the patio. Every day the sun beds including those on the beach were fitted with padded cushions and the sun umbrella was opened. Rooms were cleaned and prepared during the day and there was a turning down service in the evening. I’ve never seen so many towels for the room and the beach/pool. The staff, all of them, were a credit to the resort and dealt with us with care and big friendly smiles. They judged their clients and their individual tastes and character extremely well treating each suitably. Facilities were excellent with water sports, tennis courts, spaetc. all available. Also green fees at the local golf course were included but don’t expect St Andrew’s sort of quality. If you’re looking for a relaxing premium holiday in a beautiful spot look no further.

I’ve stayed at over a dozen “luxury” hotels in the Caribbean in the last few years and this is without doubt not only the best hotel I’ve stayed at in the Caribbean but the best hotel I’ve stayed anywhere.

It’s the little touches that take it above your standard hotel experience - all the staff remembering your name, all the staff appearing to be genuinely happy to be there and wanting you to have a good time, being offered a drink/ cool flannel whenever you head to the beach, all the little extra nibbles you’re given at meals. You can tell the managers run a really tight ship and are constantly watching to make sure guests have their drinks topped up/ aren’t looking around for service/ have everything they need or want and they do it really well.

The resort itself is beautiful. It’s on one of the most gorgeous beaches in the Caribbean, the beach front suites literally open their doors onto the sand. It’s a public beach, which I think all in Grenada are which gives it a really nice, open feeling. It’s not like in places like Jamaica or Dominican Republic where locals are prevented from accessing their own beaches. It’s never busy or noisy though, it’s mostly just people wandering past. It’s a fairly small resort but has everything you’d need - pool, spa, bar, kids club etc.

The restaurant serves amazing food for every meal. I think the chef was called Brenda and she created some incredible dishes that absolutely deserve international recognition. There wasn’t one evening meal where we weren’t blown away by at least one of the courses.

One very minor criticism- we wanted to do several excursions and tried to book them via the front desk. We were told that the sailing and waterfall excursion was fully booked for the week. This was really disappointing as it was something we’d really wanted to do. A quick Google later and I’d managed to book it directly myself. I understand that all hotels have their own agents who they use but if they’re fully booked it would be good to offer an alternative. To be told we simply couldn’t visit these places wasn’t entirely true and when you’re paying the amount of money to stay at a place like Spice Island I’d expect them to at least attempt to find an alternative.

Like I said a very minor criticism and I will definitely be returning.

We have returned from our usual long stay at this fantastic hotel. The food keeps moving up a notch and if you do not wish to have anything from the menu they will produce whatever you want . The staff are outstanding and make you feel so welcome and their one aim is to make your stay memorable. Many rooms and suites are on the beach and are decorated to a very high standard. You wake up with a view of the Caribbean Sea. What could be nicer? The rooms and the hotel are scrupulously cleaned and everywhere is spotless. They can boast one of the best swimming pools in the area which runs along side the sea. Perfect. If you want to spoil yourself this is the placefor you

If you want direct beach and sea access the the Seagrape suites are the best. This is the one that we booked. Not too sure about the Oleander suites, though the majority of the resort has seen recent renovation.
