Environment & surroundsIn De Aap is located within 2 minutes walking distance from the centre of Bergen, an inspiring town where the soul is rekindled and the body unwinds. Bergen is an artists town. For centuries writers, painters and composers have been inspired by the lush vegetation, dreamy dunes and wild ocean. But not only the surrounding nature is energizing. The history of the town has a lot to offer too. Bergen has a social character with an abundance of restaurants and cafes, interesting shops and galleries, many open on a Sunday. There are activities almost every weekend, like the antique - and art markets or the Kunsttiendaagse in October. Music lovers can enjoy plenty live performances in cafes. In August the International Holland Music Sessions take place - a course for young international music talent - and September hosts the well attended jazz & Sail weekend.Oh, and after 15 minutes of pedalling you are on the Bergen aan Zee beach, or in the centre of Alkmaar. And within half an hour by car you are in Haarlem or Amsterdam.

We had a wonderful week staying here (a couple and a nearly 5 year old). The location in Bergen is perfect, 100 metres to the chic little centre (and to the bike rental). We loved exploring locally and coming back here to relax at the end of the day, on the little terrace (with table, benches). We made breakfast and dinner here (buying all our supplies in the great shops close by). There was also a surprise trampoline behind the house, so we would have a drink and my daughter could have a jump (a nice surprise). All in all, we loved the little house and would love to come back. Only 2 things to note, the internet was a bit hit and miss (but you could find it by standing outside the front of the house) and if you need darkness to sleep, bring eye masks.

We stayed for a couple of nights in the Casita at In De Aap, in August 2014. Bergen is a refined, arty holiday community - like Rye in East Sussex but without the hills. Think galleries, shops, cafes, people sitting around - lovely! You can hire bikes from a shop at the end of the road and cycle to Bergen am Zee through the national park to a beautiful beach with beach cafes, surfing and kite flying.
In De Aap, run by Ymke and Emil is a beautifully designed and furnished boutique B&B - but that doesn't really go anywhere near describing it.
Casita, our space, is a huge, lovely, light room with a big comfy bed, sofa, a fabulous 60s cowhide chaise longue, a kitchen area with pine table and mismatched chairs, and enough space still for a party! The bathroom, hidden behind a huge sliding wooden door, is minimal and luxurious - the shower with space for 2 is a lot of fun!
When this is all wrapped up in a chic, minimal decor, we hardly felt like going out! On our first night, Emil cooked for everyone and we sat in their kitchen with other guests and enjoyed terrific cooking and great conversation - our complete lack of Dutch being no obstacle to great conversation all night. Breakfast is delivered to your room and is tasty, fresh and sufficient to set you up for cycling!
What more can I say? Well, Bergen is about an hour away from Amsterdam, so very accessible, so I urge you to visit. And In De Aap is a great place to stay when you're there.

+1
We stayed one week and enjoyed the great style of the room, the beautiful bathroom with a very deep and cosy bathtube as well as the comfort of the small kitchen, everything we needed was there.
Very nice host and a great atmosphere, there are just 3 other rooms so that we had privacy as well as contact to the local people via Emile, the host, who has very good recommendations what to do and where to eat. The B&B is located very well in Bergen close to the church where every saturday is a cosy market for cheese, flowers... The beach in Bergen aan Zee is just 10 minutes by car or 25 minutes by bike. We loved our stay and will definately come back!
In a nutshell: Emiles place „In de aap“ is a little paradise. A great possibility to leave the stress from everyday life behind.

Very cute rooms, beautifully furnished and decorated. The owner was extremely friendly and always willing to help. The defect fridge was replaced immediately upon notice. Overall a very positive and homely experience.

We spent two wonderful nights here with five friends. The house fully met our expectations and was very comfortably furnished. The house was also very clean. We found the owners very friendly. We even received a bowl of tiramisu to share on the first evening, which was super sweet. All in all, nothing to complain about. Enjoy completely!
