Detailed Reviews
We were surprised because it was so out-of-the-way but it actually was one of the benefits of our wonderful stay in this village. The whole idea of bringing life back to a village in full disrepair was so interesting. There was a livingroom, bathroom, bedroom and kitchen which was unexpected. The best part was Sitios Pedralva, the restaurant. It was amazing. Our server, Edourdo (sorry if I misspelled his name) was a pleasure to talk to and shared so much information. We met the chef who was also very amiable as well as an incredible chef. The staff was so friendly and helpful. While we were concerned there was no WiFi in the room, it turned out to be a good thing because it forced us to kick back and relax. When we wanted our mail, texts, etc. we just walked to the reception area and signed in. It really wasn't a problem. We loved our stay and it was a great way to see the countryside of southwest Portugal.

This Aldeia is a tiny hamlet lost in the countryside, with maybe a dozen locals at most and the tourists that visit it. It's lovely, and a completely different experience. I needed two rooms, and wanted outside time, so rented a small house with a patio. Very ample, the kid's room had two bunk beds, the LR had two sofas, great space outside (take repellent) and kitchen had everything. No AC, no window screens and many mosquitoes. I chose the Aldeia for it's "dog friendly" status, but the restaurant refused to accommodate us in anyway, not even sitting outside on a warm evening. I know it's the "law" but it's one that hotels chose to enforce or not. It seems quite hypocritical for such a rural Aldeia with such tiny populations to refuse service because I have a 9 Lbs/4 kg toy poodle... That's the only thing that bothered me.

Aldeia da Pedralva is set in a tiny, remote village in the southwestern corner of Portugal, 20 minutes drive from Amada Beach on the Atlantic coast. At Amada Beach you can surf or hike a beautiful part of the coastal walk, Fisherman’ Trail. We stayed in a quaint and quiet corner house called Furnas with two bedrooms. It was very clean and quaint. The bedrooms consisted of a master and a bunkbed room, both large rooms. The cleaners come daily, upon request. They are ever so friendly and do a really good job. The reception was closed when we arrived at 18:20, but the keys were left for us at the restaurant. The pool area is a little bleak, overlooking some water tanks and construction work.

This seems like a great idea, a picture-postcard village in the Algarve countryside, rejuvenated as a quirky hotel with individual small houses instead of hotel rooms. Possibly we were unlucky with the house we were allocated but after two nights I was longing to leave. In late February the village was a building site with heavy demolition work going on all day and a lot of dust and noise as a result. We soon both developed coughs. All surfaces inside the house were dusty from nearby construction, and it also smelled of stale cigarette smoke, although supposedly nonsmoking. Our house had one small window high up and one at street level so you had to keep
it shuttered for privacy. As a result the interior was always dark, and dank too as it was built into a sloping site with the lower rear room underground. The houses have no outdoor area but there’s a nice seating area at reception which we used. At least our house was warm and the shower worked well but others in our party complained of no heating and poor water pressure in their houses. There is a fully equipped kitchen, including a fancy Nespresso coffee machine, but there is no shop onsite or nearby so if you are walking or cycling without a car (like many guests off season) you can’t use the kitchen. They don’t even provide basic tea/coffee/milk in the houses, you have to walk to the bar if you want a hot drink and don’t have your own provisions. Fortunately breakfasts and the onsite restaurant were outstandingly good and I have done a separate 5 star review for the food. Possibly this place is much better in high season when the builders have left and the dark interiors provide respite from the summer heat, but I can only review based on our experience, which was very disappointing.

Cycling through Pedralva, we spent a night at the Aldeia da Pedralva and were glad it was only one night. Read on for details.
The visual charm of Pedralva is due, in part, to the continuous rows of dwellings, like townhomes, that have been restored, updated and retrofitted. There are definite limitations to the retrofitting and updating. The pair of small panel heaters were useless in the living room and bedroom. The bathroom is unventilated and unheated making the shower during this cold March day unpleasant.
The hard lumpy bed and thin, dense pillow were among the worst bed/pillows I've tried to sleep on.
WiFi was only available from the hotel lobby and restaurant, not the individual rooms.
If I return to Pedralva, I'll look to stay elsewhere.

We stayed a family of four in one of the villas. We had to wait ages for check in. Once admitted we found out that the room is dark, smelly and with no Wi-Fi or cellular reception. There was no one at reception and no one to communicate with. This is a hand off place without the authentic experience it displays in the images. It is simply not up to standard

Nice place in an once derelict village now rebuilt essentially for tourism. A very nice idea to bring life to the village again.
The restaurant needs to be booked the day before as July and maybe August are busy months. But there are plenty of places in villages nearby if one has a car.

We loved the concept behind this hotel. A group of friends ‘rescuing’ a dying village and turning it into an authentic experience of how the locals used to live. It was a delightful and picturesque place to stay, and we were glad we went there. That said, we do like some comforts. A fan of some sort would have made our nights so much more comfortable; we ultimately took a risk with comfort and airflow from street accessible windows and doors, over feelings of personal security. There are stairs to the bedroom and the front door, so accessibility will be an issue for some. On the positive side, dinner at Sitio da Pedralva was fantastic, as was the service. The flaming chorizo was a highlight, but in truth all the food was good. Families can self cater, although the nearest supermarket is about 7km away and there are limited supplies at the village itself, so being whatever you need in terms of food if you don’t want to eat out. The pool and kids playground are basic.

The houses are restored in the traditional way and therefor really cool. You have to be aware that you hear your neighbor like he is within your house. But wasn’t bad for us. You have 2 restaurants und and a pool. Beach and Surf spots 10-15min away.
