Detailed Reviews
We headed over to the Karamea area to enjoy the winter sunshine for my birthday.
My partner is celiac so I was a little uncertain on what sort of choice she would have for dinner. I emailed Litte Wanganui before travelling and got a comprehensive reply from Jill informing us that they have a separate oil vat that they use for gluten free so there is no gluten contamination.
They also make a gluten free batter and gluten free burgers so that they can safely serve, gluten free fish and chips (not many places do that). Whitebait patties, beef, venison, fish or black bean burger in a gluten free bun are also on the menu along with ribeye steak.
She even has a smashed almond meringue, with cream and gluten free ice cream desert which is delicious. It isn’t on the normal menu but ask for it even if you aren’t celiac as its yum.
We parked the camper up at the back door at a reasonable rate.
The family are very friendly, helpful and went out of their way to ensure thatHelen had an enjoyable meal.
The place is spotless as are the camping facilties.
Ladies will enjoy their hotel loo!

We'd heard good things about this pub and it didn't disappoint. Hearty, well priced dinner portions. The kids' menu was awesome and amazing value. They loved their burger, chips, salad and ice cream, and I loved that it cost $10! Husband enjoyed beautifully cooked whitebait patties and I felt like a salad so the chicken salad really hit the spot. Yum. Friendly, welcoming service.

A group of us have just enjoyed an excellent weekend here. We had 3 chalets, which were really comfortable and had everything we needed. The evening meals were tasty and promptly served and the atmosphere in the bar was fun. The hosts are charming and bent over backwards to make our stay wonderful. It's a great location to explore the whole of the top of the West Coast. Strongly recommended! Oh, and did I mention the 7-star loos?!

This place was a great location to visit nearby Karamea and we loved the quietness of Little Wanganui. The beds were comfortable and the 2 bedroom cabin was cosy and colourful with its red kitchen, yellow duvet in the master bedroom and blue duvets in the bunk room. The shower had good pressure and the kitchen was modern and well equipped. There was a heater in the lounge and kitchen area which warmed up the cabin nicely. While the cabin was small it was a decent size for two adults, and one teen and one child. The outlook over the neighbour's farm was lovely.
The cabin had good potential if a solution can be found to the black mold in the bathroom. Also there were a few dead bugs in the room and dead bugs on the bedding of one of the beds which one of the staff kindly vacuumed up for us. The property gardens also have potential if more care was put into them, then this would make the property more attractive.

Travelling in self-contained Motorhomes and looking for somewhere to park for one night. They wanted $30 a night even though none of us needed power and had to stay two nights minimum. Very short sighted as would have probably had an evening meal and drinks too if it had been cheaper. On other hand toilets were very beautiful and very clean. Burger for lunch was average.

We enjoyed a satisfying lunch on the way from Greymouth to Karamea.
When we asked for options for vegetarians, the chef herself came to our table and explained the options, some of which were unlisted in the printed menu.
The service was quick, the quantity reasonable and the food good. It was a relaxed atmosphere.
The funniest aspect was the size of the glass for water….it was tiny!

We booked a cabin with amenities for 2 couples. The cabins were clean and had everything we needed. Its a perfect remote spot to get away from the hustle and bustle of work / life. The walk to the arches is fairly mild and well worth the effort. Next time we'll take a picnic lunch! We made a trip of it from Wellington and took the car across on the ferry. Easy as and cheap for 4 people. We had a night at Nelson and a night at Murchison on our way to Little Wanganui. We took time to check out Buller Gorge swingbridge where my husband panned for gold and found a few flecks that he is very proud of! We also went to Punakaiki or pancakes rocks which were spectacular and Denniston mines before heading to the Little Wanganui Hotel. A great NZ get away - I highly recommend it

A group of 12 of us from around NZ stayed here for a Hen's Weekend and we could not have been treated any better by our hosts Barry and Gill. They went out of their way to make us feel welcome. The cabins were warm and comfortable and the food was delicious.

Girlfriends and I stayed at the Little Wanganui Hotel for a weekend prior to one of the friend’s wedding. The hotel proprietors helped so much to give us a memorable weekend - it was much appreciated. The hotel food was enjoyed, the decor of the bar and toilets was super and the locals were friendly and helpful. Was a great weekend, helped enormously by the hotel.

Called in for scones on the way to Karamea and could smell a roast cooking in the background. The scones were so good we called back past for the Sunday Roast for dinner - and it was like Mum used to cook. Very yummy. Friendly and helpful staff who keep a clean fresh establishment.
