Karamea Holiday Park has a wide range of accommodation options. We have non-powered and powered camp sites. Small backpacker type cabins, larger family cabins and fully self contained park motels. Cabins have access to communal showers, toilets and kitchen. Cabins have a bed with pillow and pillow case and you bring your own linen or can hire from us. The Park Motels have their own kitchen and bathroom and are fully made up with linen and towels etc. We are based in a wonderful location, with lagoon access from the back of the camp and abundant bird life.

Detailed Reviews
We stayed here in our camper bus with two young children for a few nights and our expectations have been far surpassed! It is quiet, clean, basic facilities all in working order and the camp hosts are just wonderful. And basically NO SANDFLIES, magic! We walked down to the estuary out the back of the camp only two minutes away and it’s a perfect place for little people to play in the trees and on the sand, nice shallow beach so safe for little ones to paddle. And the sunsets are incredible! Very happy we chose to stay here, will definitely be back!

We camped here just for the night in a non powered tent site. We were met by Ian who gave us some helpful tips about what to do and see in Karamea. He recommended we head to the opara arches, which we loved. Overall the park was clean and tidy with simple but good facilities.

+1
We stayed here on our way round the West Coast, the owners are lovely and friendly with nearly 20yrs knowledge of the surrounding area so be sure to ask them everything
Grounds are well kept, stars were amazing at night, and facilities while old are perfectly adequate for both camping and campervans.
Kitchen had plenty of fridge and cooking space, showers and toilets perfect for warming up in and prices for laundry are great as is internet. The campground is set amongst lovely trees and awesome green grass, something devoid or pretty slim in most other campgrounds we visited
Someone even brought my washing in off the line when the wind came up and we were still away at the Oparara Basin cave walking (folded and everything!)
Park has easy direct access to the estuary for walking and birdwatching and you can even hire kayaks at high tide for a bit of water activity ($7 each when we were there). Five minutes drive to icecream in the cone or pizza (at Carnivorous Cafe on Friday nights) and the 4Square supermarket for all the other essentials and central to all the activities in the area while at the same time off the main road nestled between a farm and the estuary make it a perfect place to stay.
We would choose here over the doc site at Kohaihai as NO SANDFLYS!! and only a fifteen minute drive to Kohaiahi anyway.
Overall loved the whole Karamea area and this campground fits the laid back atmosphere of Karamea perfectly

After a challenging 17km winding and climbing drive it was a pleasure and relief to pull into the Karamea Camping ground on the southern side of the small village of Karamea. However that’s where the good part ended …. We had tried calling the landline phone for over a week with no answer leaving messages as we didn’t want to make the hike to Karamea without accomodation and that’s what happened. We pulled in, in a self contained camper on Christmas Eve and got turned away - although not full just taking apart some toilet blocks and doesn’t want people to have a bad experience. So here we are with no place to go on Christmas Eve and an upset child in the back ….. looking at making the treacherous drive back over the hill with no accomodation. Definitely won’t be back so so sad at this time of year to experience such terrible service

We stayed in one of the motel style cabins and loved every minute of it. Although older in style it was comfortable and well set up with bedding, towels and kitchen gear. The campground is beautiful and green and very well managed and a bit off the main road so it’s nice and quiet.
The owner was extremely helpful on arrival and also gave us lots of great advice on places to visit and what would work with the two kids.
One of the best bits about the park was the beautiful resident dog Scooter!

This camping ground is supurbly located on the outskirts of Karamea. The hosts are extremely welcoming and full of local knowledge and information.
The cost for a powered site is $33 per couple. Outstanding. The facilties are old style yet extremely well maintained.
Highly recommended this location.

All very basic clean and tidy kitchen. Lots of pots and pans etc. good showers but quite small. It is quite an old camp but the surrounds were very tidy. A nice walk to the inlet/beach the tide was out but still made for some great photo's. It is a very long way to get here, we done the trip all the way from Marahau with a couple of stops and detours.
The lady at the office also gave us advice on our trip up to the Oparuru Arches.
Thank you so much.

after a 1 and half (100km) drive from Westport it seemed like we'd never reach Karamea, but I'm so glad we did because if we haddn't then we'd never have stayed in this classic kiwiana campsite.
As the helpful owner said to me as we booked in, being so far away meant it kept away the troublemakers! She was right. Everyone there seemed to be more concerned with having a lovely time than being a campsite dick.
The campsite is a bit stuck in the seventies, but that's part of the charm. Everything is spotless and the cabins seem basic but functional and clean.
The site is right besides the lagoon and they have kayaks for those fancying getting wet!
WiFi is paid for $5 p/d but reasonably fast with a 10gb daily limit.
There's a TV room and very basic showers (free and hot).
This is a place to come for a few days of total wind down time.
The other good thing for us was they welcomed dogs, and by welcomed I mean WELCOMED.

Last week we spent 5 days at the Karamea Holiday Park. The owner was delightful and welcoming. We parked our Motorhome in a sunny spot with a tall tree giving us shade at the back. The bathrooms were clean and tidy. A short walk away were the salt marshes and the lagoon, providing a welcome swimming spot for our dog.
The highlight for us was the presence of the resident herons, native pigeons, tui and paradise duck.

Stunning setting surrounded by trees and wildlife. One of the best kept campground we encountered - the owners are lovely and really take pride in their campground. Great facilities and so clean! Make sure you take the short walk to the estuary - great spot to take the dog because YES they are allowed to stay too.
Very Kiwi camping experience - as it should be. Stop bye.
