Early July: Our rooms were big, there was no aircon but in July a fan and a dip in the pool before bed was suffice. I couldn't stay there in any kind of real heat.
The pool was good for dipping and sitting in it is not a big pool and once we asked Harry to scoop the leaves from the pool we were good to go. We did ask if they are gong to get more Kayaks Harry's looking into it, we will deffinitely go back if they get more Kayaks, 4 of us and two kayaks and they don't double up.
It was just the ticket we needed, NO KIDS. As the teachers in our group were there for a break from Kids, so nice touch.
The beds moved excessively when my partner moved, the whole whole bed moved, it could be easily remedied if they really wanted to, and it would make a world of difference. I loved Rarotonga and we will go back.

Was a lovely place to stay in. Quite large and modern, though a fly screen on the door and curtains would be great as got hot at night. Pool was nice to swim in at night or if the lagoon was a bit rough. Friendly dogs came to join us also on the deck. Handy to nearby food locations and Muri night markets.

All the bungalows are exactly the same, they are priced differently based on their proximity to the beach. The bungalows are very generous in size with super king bed. Young couple who were operating the bungalows are friendly and helpful. They had a great range of gear, free to borrow, such as kayaks and snorkeling gear.

This is a story about lack of attention to detail. We booked the closest room to the beach. Upon arrival, we discovered there was no curtains or any other way to make the room private. As we were staying for 2 weeks, we wanted some privacy. Management told us that the shutters had been eaten out by borer during the lock down and they had not bothered, or could not, replace them. We informed them that if we had known about this, we would not have booked the accommodation. So I asked for a sheet and a battery drill and put up the sheet to give us privacy. The shower was not cleaned for the first 10 days of our stay and started to become more black than white with our dirty feet. I also noticed that the permanent wiring for the unit was just lying on the ground under the unit and would get blown around in the wind. There is a very good reason that wiring is made secure in a building. If it can move around, it becomes a way that a building can burn down when the insecure wiring breaks and causes a fire. I regarded the risk as low, so I did not mention it to my wife who would have worried. The smoke alarm had been removed at some point, I know this because the base was still screwed above the entrance to the kitchen. The curtains facing out to the pool, were torn and looked tatty. The location of the property was great, and the grounds were well kept. Management did come to us and apologize for the lack of a curtain and we insisted they tell future guests. In hospitality, attention to detail is what makes one property stand out over another. Muri Beach Hideaway needs more attention to detail and an upgrade. Some paint for the inside would not be a bad start.

We stayed at Muri beach hideaway for 5 nights and absolutely loved our stay. We had unit 2 which was the one right in front on the pool and In my opinion the best one because of having the pool at our doorstep and also still directly looking out to the lagoon. The bungalow its self was super spacious, little kitchenette with everything you need, nice clean bathroom, very comfortable super king bed. The location was absolutely perfect!! A couple of mins walk to the Muri night markets, just down the beach from the launch spot for koka and captain tamas lagoon tours and a couple of mins to loads of resorts and restaurants. Super peaceful, kid free ,quiet and relaxing. Free use of kayaks, reef shoes and snorkel gear. Waking up and opening the shutters to see the beautiful sunrise and being only a few footsteps away from the beach was incredible. 100% recommend

TA should have a "Good" option as this is better than average. We arrived a day late due to a tropical storm delaying our arrival out of Atiutaki. We struggled to find the entrance as it was raining and the entrance is hard to see. We'd been sent an email with these instructions but it was sent to our home address after we'd left NZ. We arrived on a Saturday at 12:20 and didn't realize the office closed at midday. Our Hosts thought our flight had been cancelled and we weren't coming. Luckily I banged on the door and we were heard. Our bungalow was right on the beach which would be amazing if the weather wasn't so bad. We should have asked for a more sheltered bungalow. The Bungalow was spotlessly clean and roomy. Weirdly we didn't have curtains on the slider doors. There's a little pool close to the beach entrance which looked freshly renovated.

Totally awesome place to stay. Good location, everything you need. The owners were really kind and good to chat to. They gave us some good recommendations of things to do. We took the kayaks out. Thanks for having us!

Muri Beach Hideaway was surperb. Pauline, the manager/owner, was very pleasant and happy to help with all of our enquiries. She arranged transport to and from the airport for us and also put on a BBQ for all of her guests on a Saturday night for us. I don't know whether this is regular fortnightly thing or whether it was just a special occassion but it was very much appreciated and made us feel special.

The Muri Beach Hideaway experience started with the amazing smelling gardenia leis that Pauline made. The driver of the transport from the airport she arranged gave us these and then took us to our room. It was quite late when we arrived so I wasn't surprised that Pauline didn't meet us.

Muri Beach Hideaway has 5 seperate bungalows. One is situated at the beach front with the others staged back from the beach in a row. Even those bungalows farthest away from the beach are just a brief stroll through the gardens to get to the water. We stayed in two of the five bungalows and all are equipt with a lovely bathroom and fully equipt kitchen. The rooms were serviced every second day and were decorated with bowls of gardenia making the rooms smell fantastic whenever you entered.

It is 5 minutes walk from the butchers (who also sell fresh fish when it is available) and two local convenience stores who also sell fresh island fruit and vegetables. You can either cook in the bungalow or take a walk down the beach to the Yacht club restaurant or the restaurant at the Rarotongan resort. We ended up cooking the fantastic fish for lunch and dinner most nights.

While the pool at the Hideaway is quite small it is also very deep and most of the time is unused by other people staying at the Hideaway. The lagoon is so beautiful most people swim there.

The Hideaway comes equipt with three kayaks (one of them a double seater), reef shoes, mask and snorkels and flippers. These are free of charge. There are sun chairs available for sun bathing and an outside shower near the beachfront so you can get rid of the sand before going back to your room.

The only downside is that you need to trip down some large bolders in order to get down to the beach. It isn't an issue for any able bodied person but was a little difficult for my husband who has impared mobility with one of his legs. Pauline is dealing with this shortly as she has a deck and stairs construction on order with the local builders but, with the February 2005 cyclones creating lots of building work, she is having to wait her turn before she can get this work done.

The best thing about Muri Beach Hideaway for me were the fantastic gardens. Pauline has a very green thumb and the place has the best planned and most beautifully chosen tropical garden layout of any on the island. From the moment you cross the Monet style bridge over the stream filled with purple, pink and blue waterlilies to the placement of the coconut palms the whole effect is one of lush growth contained in fantastic colour combinations.

The place was fantastic and far better than the resort. The ability to take advantage of the fresh produce of the island and cook for yourself is fantastic.

The property is owned by Pauline who is on-site most of the time. Pauline does not have an airport transfer but she arranged one for us for $30 NZD. Email her ahead of time to set this up. The transfer met us at the airport and we had to pay them when we arrived at the property, it is not included in the cost of the property. The Muri Beach Hideway is a delightful place and Pauline goes out of her way to make your stay enjoyable. She even hosted a BBQ cookout one night for all the guests. The property is small and intimate with three bungalows that face Muri Beach and two more that face the mountains. There is a small pool right off the beach. The bungalows seem like they are relatively new and are in wonderful condition. We found the quality, appearance and appointments of the bungalows were on par with some overwater bungalows we have stayed in in Tahiti. The front deck is covered and has an outdoor table & two chairs. There are wonderful double-sliding glass doors (that lock) going into the bungalow that you can open wide for lots of air if you need it. The bungalows are not air conditioned but we didn’t find that it was uncomfortable. The front of the bungalow is a large bedroom with a small dining table for two and two large comfortable wicker chairs. The floors are a polished wood – it all looked very nice. There were no dressers, just a small closet with a few small shelves. We used our suitcases as “dressers” for the most part. There are no room safes. Pauline assured me that they are not needed, but being the paranoid American I was glad I had a lock with me to lock valuables in our suitcase while we were out of the bungalow. After 5 nights however I was beginning to believe Pauline was right. The back of the bungalow contains the full kitchen on one side and a full bath on the other side. The kitchen was very well appointed with utensils, cooking pans and dishes, we wanted for nothing. Pauline left a wonderful fruit bowl on top of the refrigerator with papaya, bananas and apples – all were very good. The refrigerator is about the size of one in an efficiency apartment. We cooked all our meals in and had no problem whatsoever with space. The great thing about the Muri Beach Hideway is the fact that the grocery store is within easy walking distance. The property is also close to a couple popular restaurants but we never ate at them. There is a common-area washer/dryer available for all the bungalows. The TV only got one channel and programming seemed to be “dealer’s choice” – but who wants to sit around and watch TV all day? There were 3 or 4 kayaks available for use by the guests. The bathroom was very well appointed and included a hair dryer. I would advise taking small bars of soap and small travel size shampoo bottles since these items are not provided. All in all we loved our stay at Muri Beach Hideway and would return without hesitation.

Kia Orana, Thank you for your enquiry. We have 2 Lotus Bungalows side by side that are located by a lovely little stream. A small arch bridge close by connects our beach property/office to our main road property. From here a pathway leads you between the Lotus Bungalows, pass reception to the swimming pool, onto the sun tanning deck and down to the beach. Less than two minutes walk. Wifi is located at the reception area which is less than one minute away from the Lotus Bungalows. This is available for houseguests 24/7 and they will only need to purchase a time code at a nearby Bluesky Telecom branch or go online and pay via credit card. Hopefully this has been of some use to you! Warm regards, Vina Macfarlane

Kia Orana Bea, The nearest Cook Islands Christian Church (renown for their singing) in Muri is about 5 minutes drive from Muri Beach Hideaway. The lovely limestone building is located across from the Avana Harbor with morning service beginning at 10.00am. Afterwards all visitors are invited to a morning tea and to mingle with the parish. As for Christmas lunch - there are a number of restaurants and hotels that will advertise their Christmas menu closer to the day. Warm regards, Vina Macfarlane
