We felt so lucky to find this gem. The location is at the end of the beach walk from the rest of Muri, which means you can take the beach to the market, etc, but don't have lots of people walking by. The villas are well maintained, clean, and have everything you need for a basic kitchen. They are facing away from each other that they feel private from each other and the water. If you plan to use kayaks, you can't stay any farther north than Sokala: after that, the current will make paddling difficult. The location is great and there are plenty of kayaks to take out to the motus and have a walk or nap. Lawrence and his team are helpful and delightful. There's laundry and a small market nearby.

Tucked down a quiet, waterfront sideroad, yet close to all the Muri Beach activity, Sokala Villas are run by ever friendly and cheerful Lawrance and Sarina. Take a dip in the lagoon right in front of the villas or sunlaze on the deck, the place feels like a real home from home. We got our datelines muddled - no drama for Sarina to book us in a day early and get a taxi organised with two hours' notice. Highly recommend this place for a laidback vibe and management.

We first visited Sokala in August 2010 (and reviewed it then) and promised ourselves we would be back. Well, in April we finally made it 9 years later and our only regret is that we left it so long. Sokola Villas are just as peaceful and the views just as stunning as we remembered. Lawrence and Suz are still the most helpful and pleasant people and even remembered us when we contacted them hoping for a booking at short notice. This is the place to go for total relaxation, just the sound of the waves on the reef and the breeze in the palm trees. It is walking distance from restaurants (we had a lovely meal at Rickshaw) and also from the Muri Night Market. This is like an open air food court where you can buy all sorts of meals from stalls for about $15 each. We went 4 times and enjoyed all the food we had. All round it was a marvellous break after a hectic few months and we will indeed be back to see you Lawrence and Suz!! Vivienne and Philip

We came to Sokala on our honeymoon in 1999... and just returned for our 20th wedding anniversary. Booking was so friendly and the team even made sure we had the same villa! We enjoyed complete peace and tranquility despite quite a lot of rain.... 4 days felt like 4 weeks! The kayaks and snorkelling gear was much enjoyed, villa had everything we needed (and nothing we didn't - no TV) and staff very helpful. Everything was spotless and a very comfy bed. I would love to come back in another 20 years and see the lovely villas having had a bit of a facelift.... but i wouldn't change a thing!!! Thanks again Lawrence and team :)

We loved Sokala. Lawrence and Susan are truly excellent hosts; warm, genuine, and helpful. The villa (we splurged and got a beachfront with pool) had an incredible view. Also a huge deck and a refreshing (albeit small) pool, which we used multiple times daily to cool off in after walking to market or snorkeling in the nearby coral gardens. The interiors are rustic, yet very clean and perfectly functional on all counts. Good mattress, nice shower, kitchen well appointed for cooking, which we did on multiple occasions. Lawrence even kindly provided us with a bbq, which seared a lot of tuna and swordfish during our visit! In terms of interior appointment? Think of a beloved cabin you used to spend happy summers in, and you'll have a sense of the place. It's not a fancy modern hotel, yet for us, it was perfect for the time and place. Sokala also has a great lending library of paperbacks, and free snorkeling gear, reef shoes, and kayaks that you're welcome to use. (So if you like to snorkel? Maybe bring your own mask if you'd like, but save the packing weight and use their fins and snorkels.).
