On our arrival to our garden villa I was pleasantly surprised to find a spacious three bed villa. With small kitchenette, full sized fridge/freezer, cooker, microwave and all the utensils required.
It was large enough for the two of us to have our own space, even though one big room.
They don’t have a restaurant as such but breakfast is available next door at the Nautilus Resort. Muri Beach Resort (MBR) does have the Aqua cafe that opens late afternoon and serves good food.
MBR offers snorkelling gear and kayaks free of charge to guests. The pool is a good size & is kept very clean, as is the whole resort.
Great time of year to visit given it is low season (due to the cyclones).
A great place to stay and I would definitely stay here again. 😊

We stayed 4 nights en route from LA to Sydney. From the moment we arrived, the staff were so accommodating, including having our apartment ready at 8 in the morning! We were immediately met by the warm and laid back atmosphere of this small resort, which led to a lovely ambiance throughout our stay. The rooms were large and clean and very functional. The grounds were immaculate. All (non-motorised) water sports (kayaks, snorkelling, stand-up paddle boards) were available free of charge. The huge bonus of staying at Muri Beach is that you also have access to the sister resort’s facilities next door. The resort itself was well located, plenty of local places to eat nearby, and buses (or car hire) places that allow you to see the island easily.

It is probably worth noting that Muri Beach, while beautiful, is not really suited to swimming as there are a lot of rocks/coral, although the resort has reef shoes that can be used and a pleasant pool area, plus a lovely infinity pool at Nautilus next door. The only real downside was that the hot water system works on solar power and so in the rainy season if there is no sun, there is pretty much no hot water.

Overall, we loved our time at this resort, and if we were to come to Rarotonga again, we would happily stay at Muri Beach Resort.

We are just back from another fantastic stay at MBR. The gardens and pool area were all looking wonderful and the view from our lovely room was amazing. The beach and lagoon were all looking pristine and we were fortunate to have good weather even managed to see some whales just outside the reef! A real bonus of this resort is the pool area is very sheltered so on the days when the breeze was blowing into the beach a bit much the pool area is idyllic set in the gorgeous gardens looking either towards the mountains or from the other end to the lagoon, such a lovely property. We didn't use it this time but there's the added feature of a BBQ Area and dining table by the pool which is awesome if you are there with a group or family and want to self cater. There's also a big deck at the end of the resort right on the beach and we sat there every morning with our coffee and watched the sunrise. Chatted to other guests, who also love it there and were either returnees or had been referred by others who'd stayed previously. MBR is in a great location at Muri Beach and is easy walking distance to lots of shops, dining and activity options. Have been to Rarotonga many times and stayed various places but our favourite is MBR. It has sister resort Nautilus right next door and the restaurant and bar area is divine. We had breakfast there most days looking out at the lagoon, it's so beautiful and you feel very blessed to be there. We had a lunch and dinner there too, and also drinks and island fries at happy hour or whenever we felt like it :) We had a massage at the Nautilus spa which was heavenly. Staff at both resorts are really friendly and very efficient. Really did not want to leave! Highly recommend Muri Beach Resort and hope to get back there next year.

We were booked to come on 21 Sept and paid the full rate for our 7night stay ahead of arriving in good faith. We were forced into a snap lockdown a few days later and are still unable to travel anywhere outside Auckland. The cancellation policy on their website clearly states you’ll get a refund or can rebook. We have offered to do a mix of both as appreciate it’s a tough time for everyone. We have emailed the resort 10-15 times and called numerous time and no one will get back to us and we remain $3000 out of pocket. So disappointed as we were so looking forward to this holiday. The lack/absence of communication is obnoxious and rude. BE AWARE!!

Just returned from a weeks stay at Muri Beach Resort. Fabulous low key, friendly, resort. We stayed in Villa 18 and it was perfect for three single adults. Room was cleaned and restocked daily. Pool was perfect, has a free washing machine and rooms had clothes horses to hang your washing out on. Our villa was private but you could be social if you wanted. Fantastic layout of the resort, well sheltered from the wind that can blow in from the lagoon. Wonderful, friendly resort staff and maintenance men. Breakfast was at Nautilus resort next day which was fabulous. We were fortunate enough to have Remus the cat sleep over and had daily visits from hens with her chickens. Chaperoned by Dewey the dog who made sure we made it home safely. Loved our stay and wished we could have had longer. Perfect location for everything you need. Highly recommend this resort as a place to relax, unwind and fall in love with Rarotonga. Wish we were still there and already planning our return.

We were slightly disappointed with our stay at Muri Beach Resort. We stayed in room 14 and it was very dated and old. The bathroom is in dire need of some TLC. The roof has water damage. We had ants around our bed. The blinds were mouldy and tired looking. The lamps were broken and the tv was that old it wasn’t worth watching. We weren’t there to watch tv but we did have a lot of down time and with little internet would have been nice to have something to watch.
I ordered a fruit basket on arrival and didn’t receive it and was instead compensated with a “breakfast basket” which wasn’t needed as we had breakfast plans each day and had bought our own breakfast supplies. The girl also handed it to me saying “complimentary” but I think she was supposed to say “substitute”. So I was even more disappointed when we enquired where the fruit basket was to be told the sad looking breakfast basket was that instead.
The pool area is fantastic and we spent many hours with our little one there and the short walk and location to the beach and other amenities of Muri Beach is great.

Room Tip: Ask not to stay in room 14 as I believe some rooms have been refurbished and some haven’t.

I was a visitor to the resort as friends were staying there for the week. What beautiful grounds, lush plantings and a really lovely swimming pool with very nice and comfortable sun loungers and chairs around it.
Friendly staff with the gardener being very sweet in that he made a wee boat out of a coconut husk, with shale for a keel and palm frond sails for the children to enjoy.

The rooms are lovely and well appointed and clean with airconditioning. There's a handy shop next door on the main road for basic supplies.
Located in Muri Beach, it's away from the barking dogs that are around other parts of the island, for a good night's sleep.
The resort is on the beach and offers kayaks to its guests to use. It was a very pleasant place to visit friends during their stay.

Located in Muri Beach, a family friendly resort that has fully self contained villas with direct beach access. The location allows for easy access to food outlets and tour companies as well as the bus around the island. Staff are helpful and friendly.

We found thus accommodation through a Google search and we were so pleased we did. We stayed in Are 11, a garden view room which was fantastic. A good size for 2 adults and teenager and as this is the last garden unit, it is very private with no one walking by the room.
The beach is close and easily accessible from here, as is the pool.
The pool could be a little warmer, but there are plenty of sunloungers and it is a good size.
Close to shops and other eateries, with the convenience of charging back to your room at The Nautilus next door.
Would definitely stay again

We have just returned from another stay at Muri Beach Resort. We first stayed there in 2012 and still think it's the best place on the Island of Rarotonga. Love the location, beautiful gardens and also the friendly, efficient staff, some of whom have been there since our first visit! It's a beautiful property and honestly feels like a home away from home when we arrive each year. Obviously with Covid times, it's been tough and the onsite restaurant is closed. Hopefully this will open again in the near future. Not to worry, sister resort Nautilus is right next door and there are many dining options within a few paces of the front gates including the Muri Night Market and the wonderful Rima's cafe so you are well catered for. We did do the prepaid breakfast option at Nautilus Resort each day. The restaurant itself is stunning and the breakfast superb and well priced and it's just the best way imaginable to start the day. Nautilus is also a great place for lunch or evening happy hour drinks too! We can't wait to go back again! Thank you Muri Beach & Nautilus Resorts!

What was the kitchenette like there? Did it have everything you needed? Did it have a freezer?
Answer from paula l

Fridge / freezer, standard small home size. The stores are open most days, so don't be too concerned and just shop 1-2 days ahead. So many great places to eat, including within walking distance that you will probably only want a small freezer for a bbq anyway - there is a complimentary one at the resort.

I believe it's $15 dollars per day but didn't use this option so not sure. The tropical breakfast and full cooked breakfast are different prices.
