Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A somewhat dated motel but has all requirements and most luxuriously a big spa bath, which was an unexpected treat. Easy to find, convenient and comfortable although no breakfast available. However we recommend the Bakery a few blocks away. Friendly owner.

It’s a strange mix of some freshly painted areas and some carpet/lino from 1970s. It is an old place that needs some TLC, but still ok for resting your head for the night. Ants did attack a food scrap at lightening speed. Don’t expect too much and you will be just fine.

We had travelled around the East Cape and had no cellphone reception all day. The very friendly and gracious lady at Ranui Motel saved us from spending the night in the car, after everything was closed just after 9pm! She came down from her home, opened reception, checked us into a splendid 2-bedroom apartment, all for a very reasonable price. The bed was the most comfortable ever and the place spotlessly clean and tidy. Will only stay here when I come to Opotiki again!

The reception staff were friendly and helpful and this does go a long way to making anyone's stay pleasant, however the room is small and basic with no wardrobe and a TV that did not work properly. The outdoor wicker chairs had worn through so bits of wood had been screwed over them - very uncomfortable to sit on. Even replacing the thin towels would be a start, but this motel, although of an older style, does need updating.

One night for three people found this establishment to be clean and tidy, staff very good. Our unit was close to the main road which is quite busy even in the evening, so if possible avoid the first unit.

First overnight stay with Whanau (family) on our trip round the East Coast of New Zealand. Motel was clean and the tariff reflected this. The owner was friendly and quickly showed us to our appointed rooms. Our room had a shower over a spa bath, which was a tad naff as there were no grab rails, if one did slip. There was no curtain to stop water from going out over the floor, which was also a nuisance, because the whole floor became wet even the area around the toilet. There was the usual tea & coffee making facilities as well as complimentary milk. The TV didn’t work properly, of which we only wanted to watch the news, but that didn’t happen. Basically you get what you pay for, one night was ok, but any longer would be a trial. We walked into the town looking for a place to eat, which is another story but with a happy ending.

Let's not kid ourselves - this motel is a good two and half star enterprise, run by very friendly and accommodating hosts. Whilst the units are a good size, they lack the 'plush' furniture and finishings to make it any higher in rating. All items worked adequately, the breakfast served to the room sufficient and nourishing; but some tender loving care and a touch of renovation would add to its appeal. A good overnight stop.

Basic motel but staff were very friendly and helpful. Rooms were well equipped with large flat screen tv's, cutlery, glasses, microwave, fridge and tea/coffee making facilities. Our room also had a jacuzzi bath. All were spotlessly clean. Breakfast (delivered to room) was very good value. Would not hesitate to book here again if passing through.

I stayed overnight in one of their units. They are very clean, comfortable and the hosts were fantastic. It's not far too walk to either town or to the supermarket. This was my first stay in Opotiki, and I will definitely be back the next time I am staying in Opotiki. Many thanks Glenis and Pine.
