Thank you Avocado Lodge for the pleasant stay! We came spontaneously in the evening without booking, though we were welcomed very friendly and everything was made possible. Avocado lodge has a great view over lushoto and is perfectly located for hikes/city tours. The food is very delicious, the rooms are large and everything for a good/fair price. Asante sana Avocado lodge!

Lushoto is a beautiful place to visit if you're into hikes and nature walks and exposure to local culture/foods. Avocado lodge is far enough from town for a little privacy and close enough to walk into town for lunch.

If you don't feel like leaving the lodge, just tell the wonderful man in charge, Nelson, and the kitchen staff can make you a local meal anytime. The rooms are comfortable and the showers are hot.

It's a nice place to stay; new, so they are still figuring some things out. But the staff are so friendly and ready to help with anything you need as much as they can.

I recently spent several days at the Avocado Lodge and had a wonderful experience. Nelson and the rest of the staff are helpful and attentive. The rooms are clean and spacious and the warm showers were a welcome reprieve after a day spent hiking the many trails / waterfalls / lookout points surrounding Lushoto. I would highly recommend Avocado Lodge!

While attending a conference at the local university, I had the pleasure of staying at the Avocado Lodge. My room was basic, but neat and clean, and had all of the amenities needed to have a great stay. Breakfast was served daily and had several options. But forget about all of that, it is the view. What an incredible location.

The most special part of this lodge was the owner, Godwin, who went out of his way to make our stay comfortable and pleasant. He was outstanding in every way.

I stayed in Avocado Lodge with a group of colleagues for one night, in December 2018. It's a bit off the beaten track, but well worth the trip. Amazing location.

There was construction work going on, so it's not as quiet and peaceful as you'd expect in this region. And it was Friday, so at night the bar down in the valley filled the air with (very) loud music. But the rooms are nice and tidy, the view (although partially obstructed by the hedgerow) beautiful and the staff helpful and friendly.

But this should be a restaurant-review, as the dinner was absolutely stunning! The kitchen staff surely took their time preparing it, but when we finally set down for dinner we were treated on delicious food, full of fresh ingredients. Breakfast the next morning was outstanding, too.

And yes, there was a lot of avocado. ;)

Dear guest, Thank you very much for your comments and my sincere apologies for late response. My PC at the hotel had some issues and could not access internet for some time now. We thank you very much for the candid review, and apologize for the noise associated with the music down town, which was beyond our control. I thank you too for compliments to my restaurant staff for their good work. The construction work you observed is our new larger restaurant which we expect to open mid of 2019. We think you will like it more when you visit us next time. Again, Thank you and welcome back to visit us when you in the area. Godwin

Fantastic place located in quiet, peaceful atmosphere on the forested slopes of west usambara mountains with great scenic views of the sorroundings below. We stayed for one night when arriving late from Pangani and on way to Irente. Easily accessible from lushoto town. Staff are friendly and accommodating. Rooms are clean and spacious with outdoor terrace and seats. Family friendly.
There’s an electric kettle in the room so you can make a cup of tea or coffee which can be quite refreshing in the cold evenings. Breakfast is basic.

First, the pros: The management here was very friendly, and helped organize a nice nature walk. The rooms were clean, though I did suffer from some allergies that abated after we checked out. Our room had nice hot water with excellent pressure.

One thing that could be improved is the limited outdoor seating and view from the rooms (shrubbery in the way). One thing outside the management's control is the surprisingly loud street/town noise that rises up to the hotel. It didn't quite make for the peaceful mountain retreat I pictured.

Creature comforts were a little limited too. The food was very good but the menu was limited, with everyone in the party eating the same thing. There was no wine. The bed, pillows, and linens were rather spartan. There was wifi advertised but it only worked literally inside the manager's office.

Hotel options in Lushoto are pretty limited since it's not a very developed tourism area, and the Avocado Lodge is probably better than most. Despite the shortcomings, we would stay there again.

Dear guest, I wish to thank you sincerely for choosing to stay at the Avocado. Despite the many shortcomings , we wish to assure you that we will do our best to rectify them and improve on the general atmosphere. Once again, thank you very much for your candid remarks and rest assured we are working to improve the environment so that next time when you come you may have a much pleasant stay. Regards, Godwin

We stayed at the avocado lodge this August for 4 nights. The deluxe rooms were comfortable and we were supplied extra blankets as it gets quite cold in Lushoto at night. These rooms have a little terrace with stunning views of the countryside, perfect for relaxing and reading your book after some hard trekking.

The highlight was the owner, Nelson, one of our favourite Tanzanians! He would always be smiling and laughing and would do anything to help (including getting up at 6am to help us to our bus... which we almost missed... and would have, were it not for him!). The food was good value (10,000 shilling per dinner) and for the most part tasty. Nelson organized some treks for us with his guide Sam, who was knowledgable, friendly, had great eyes to spot iguanas (and a green mamba - amazing!). We trekked to Irente viewpoint through small villages - a real highlight of our trip - and through the rainforest to a waterfall.

Nelson - one recommendation... put some transparent screens in the dining area so we can enjoy the views whilst eating, and change the television for some nice relaxing music! :)
