This lodge managed to find the perfect balance between two extremes, 1) luxury and comfort and 2) being in the bush and middle of nowhere. This was our first stop on our honeymoon and we were spoilt rotten everyday we were there, from champagne and bubble baths to candle lit dinners and a final photoshoot. One truly feels special when staying here and the staff adds a personal touch to everything and are very proud of their work. The food is amazing and service was exceptional. The guides have a broad spectrum of knowledge and even shares some traditional history and stories. You will not find the views from the tents and the sounds of elephants at night anywhere else.

We have stayed in Nambwa lodge previously and I am continued to be impressed. The whole lodge is built on stilts. Although the rooms are luxurious with exceptional views, staff is friendly and the booking experience a pleasure – however this is not what I believes sells this lodge - it sells an experience – an experience to experience Africa (and Namibia in particular) as it should be. As it is the only lodge situated in the Bwabwata National park and close to the famous horseshoe, wildlife roams freely with everything from hyenas, kudu and elephants on the vast lands. Morning sounds include elephants crossing the channels of the Kwando river, fish eagles calling and an overall peace that is meant to be found only in the afterlife. It was a treat, a highlight after a highly enjoyable trip throughout the Caprivi region.
Our last evening included a visit from an elephant herd of almost 50 walking below the stilts and literally a meter or two below you. My kids were left in awe as this is something we have experienced here and only here – to be able to see a bunch of wild elephants going through and below the camp, so close, is amazing.
The game drive, with a sundowner at the horseshoe, sees elephants crossing through the horseshoe, magnificent Kudu herds and bulls and even Sables.
The management couple, Christiaan and Lisa, again deserves accolades trying to please in every way and really making it a most memorable experience.
What continues to impress is that the lodge still offers competitive pricing for Namibians (given this experience) and treating them with the same attention as foreign (and higher paying) tourists, which is different what we experienced with some of the other lodges we visited in Namibia.

Many people have mentioned the road in as a challenge, but there are others who choose this location partly as a fun opportunity to try out their 4X4 skills. We have no skills, but did it anyway. Our mistake going in is that we tried to drive too quickly and kept losing steering control. We were too afraid of getting stuck. Right before the lodge, there was water that looked fairly high so I called to make sure we were supposed to drive through it. They told me that there were sandbags underneath. We made it, but the water was surprisingly high.
All that said, despite the stress of getting in, we would happily do it again and again. The hosts were amazingly friendly; the lodge and tents were beyond beautiful and the boat trip out to visit the hippos was magical. If I was going to restructure our itinerary, I'd take a day off of Chobe and add it to Nambwa. The accommodations were so unique and the setting felt secluded.
We definitely recommend this camp.

We saw the sign saying 4x4 only and thought yip that's our route, we towed a excape off road caravan aswell, the road in on the wet season was not too bad ( definately get a good African massage) definately need a vehicle with low range of towing, summer time the sand in places will be very tricky. The route to the camp is not clearly marked so with caravan and all we did a detour, but reached the site, thought R250 pppn for camping was a bit expensive, campsite have no power ( no problem for us as we have solar) Not a lot of animals to see as there was lots of rain and the bushes are lush and green, but at night you got to hear the lions and hyena. Got to meet Oliva the friendly camp hippo who roams the camp at night was a scarey experience but never once felt threatened as been south Africans we know to keep our distance. Arrived there about 2 the afternoon, went for a beer was a bit hungry, the kitchen was closed nothing available to eat. To me I got the feeling that if you were not one of the paying guests at the tented camp (which can cost up to R6000. 00 pppn) your needs were not important. We stayed for 3 nights at the newly moved Nambwa Campsite and I must say, it was a disappointment. The new place is described on the Nambwa homepage as "creating a more exclusive and wilder setting", but the 4 campsites are very close together. In fact, you can see your neighbors as long as you don't turn your back at them. You can also hear them which proved a testing time for us. 12 people with children shared the next campsite, the children sreamed the hole day, they played music (in a national park where you came to relax in nature). From the new place of the campsite you can't see the river any more, just plains. The only animals that braved the noise were some impala. We had 2 different camp managers for the time. The first one tried to calm the neighbors and was acceptable. The second one did nothing at all. Both popped up on our place every time they liked, if you sat down for dinner or just came back from your morning drive. He even offered to kill a centipede because "it has a nasty bite". We refused, because in a national park humans are the visitors and you have to respect the animals (besides they won't bite you just like that). The campsite itself looks nicely. There is some shiny glass decoration, a roof you can sit under, a clean kitchen space to put you kitchen utensils beside the sink and a nice bathrooms. But there are some construxtion "errors". Because of the rain the path to the bathroom was partly flooded by water from the roof. The bathroom itself has a wall made of bottles which looks very nice, but has a problem starting now and getting worse all time: the bottles were sealed but some got open and house different insects - not what you would like under your shower. It also starts getting very dirty by rain and dust... All in all: the campsite is NOT private, the place has not many animals around (in comparison to other camps in national parks, Khaudum for example), it's pricy (you even have to pay a "sustainability levy" of 100 N$ per day additional to your booking) and the staff not worth talking about. On the pro side: you start you day in the national park, the seeting area is done nicely.

I would like to start positive with mentioning that the tent was beautiful and also the location. Everything is built on poles allowing elephants to walk underneath. For us it was the sixth in line of very luxurious accomodations. This one was the worst if we rate it on hospitality. The staff was untrained, besides during diner they did not ask for any drinks and it even looked like they would rather have a "break" from working. The food was not good and they gave us no choice between different meals (which all the others did). There was no minibar or coffee/espresso machine in the room, only water which was room temperature. We booked all inclusive, but afterwards we got the bill which included the espresso, cappuccino, some wines and licor although we asked the staff what was included during our stay. Nobody seemed to know afterwards. Of the including wines (about 8 of them) there were 2 out of stock. So we started with not much choice and ended with even less. The splashpool had two little swing benches standing in the sand with no sunbeds. Also no refreshments or poolservice at all. The towel change didn't happen also not after 2 days. They repetitly hung them up again, when we put them on the floor for changing. We had to ask 2 times for new ones before they delivered them. They were being washed? They said. Our ranger did her best and was fine but an intern with 2 months of experience. The manager Jan asked us after the first day if there were any problems. We told him but he didn't do anything about it. It seemed like the manager did not really care. We had a disappointing experience and want to warn people who are willing to spent around 1000 euro a night per room to not book this lodge. We booked two rooms for three nights and regret it. So long story short, this lodge isn't worth it!

The Nambwa Tented Lodge is beautifully embedded in the African landscape and is off the beaten track. The lodge has a very authentic African feel, you feel like you're in the film "Out of Africa". It was probably one of the best and most beautiful lodges on our three and a half week tour.
Getting to the lodge is a challenge, even with a very good 4x4 vehicle, but the effort and the journey are definitely worth it if you stay there for at least two nights.
The lodge is rather small and very personally run, with very competent, friendly and service-oriented staff. It is very beautifully and authentically furnished.
The rooms are very spacious and well equipped. However, they do not have air conditioning or a ceiling fan. Only a standing fan helps to bring some movement into the air in the room. Since each room is built in the style of a tent, it gets very hot in the rooms during the day, which can be unpleasant. And because of the monkeys circulating in the park, you are required to keep the doors closed.
The lodge as a whole and especially the room were very well maintained and clean.
The breakfast is plentiful and the dinner very tasty. As usual in small lodges, you can choose from two menus (and possibly a meat-free option). The quality of the food was excellent.
The excursions run by the lodge are of very good quality with experienced local guides who also provide you with a lot of interesting information about life there. The excursions take place in small groups and are scheduled so that there is never any time pressure.
We really enjoyed our stay at the Nambwa Tented Lodge, undoubtedly a big highlight of our trip. The overnight stay in the lodge is rather expensive, but what is offered is undoubtedly worth the price.

I said to my husband after 45 minutes of driving 4x4 in deep sand to get to the lodge, I hope this is worth it. We were NOT disappointed. Hidden amongst the trees were the most beautifully designed and furnished tented rooms providing us just the luxury we needed after camping 2 nights in the bush. Joanne was there to see to our every need and couldn’t be more helpful- even loaning me a crutch for my sprained ankle. On the eve of my daughter’s 13th birthday, the camp was visited by 5 elephants munching on leaves underneath the walkways. We could almost touch them. It was so beautiful!

Okay the last 14 km are a challenge ( 4x4 only ) but the reward is so much worth is! The lodge is situated between the trees and is hardly visible. Not just between the trees but also on a high level so elephants can pass. No kidding. You do experience elephant under your lodge on their way to I don’t know where… The lodge itself is stunning. The service and hospitality are outstanding. Need I say more…? Go there yourself.

The drive in can be a challenge so worth contacting in advance for the best route in as signposting is poor and conditions are constantly changing and we did encounter deep sand. Once at the camp the rooms are luxurious and tea or coffee can be delivered with a wake up call. The communal area is great with drinks by the fire and tables laid outside overlooking the game viewing area. Good buffet breakfast. Keenan was a great manager attentive and friendly

You can also fly into Botswana in Kasane from Johannesburg everyday but will need to drive, and do the border crossing between Botswana to Namibia and back.
