Awesome full day experience. Derek and Kirk couldn't have been more professional and were certainly above and beyond expectations. They've set a high bar for future rafting trips anywhere in the world. Riding in the afternoon with Nicola and Tommy was equally enjoyable. Caring and animal loving people in a relaxing environment.

Really lovely place, gorgeous surroundings in a small valley in the middle of nowhere, against a river. Nice little bar and decent food. The rooms were small and very tight, however, well priced. The facilities weren't amazing, but if the weather was as sunny as I had it, I would stay here again just to be in such a gorgeous...

This was one of my one night stops on the Kiwi experience bus but I regret not making it a few nights at least. This is a lovely hostel in the most beautiful valley, it's secluded and away from civilisation (as away as it can be considering New Zealand ain't too busy anyway). There's a stream running through the grounds...

Stayed in one of the single bunk bed huts down by the river. Whilst small, the hut was cosy and warm. Showers and toilets were clean, and hot water plentiful. Only negative is the kitchen was very small and got crowded. Lodge is set in a beautiful valley, there are a few walks nearby which are worth doing. Thank you...

Fantastic 1 night stay with Kiwi Experience! Stayed in a 6 bunk room, comfiest bed I've stayed in for 6 weeks! Room was very clean with plenty of plug sockets, a long mirror and a mini fridge. Showers were hot and clean, toilets clean for the most part (unisex toilets and guys are messy when they're drunk!) and general area...

This is an excellent place to stay when in the North Island. Staff are incredibly friendly and helpful and the accommodation is in an exceptional location, right on the river. Would 100% visit here again.

We were very surprised with our stay here as part of the Kiwi Experience. For a true experience of seclusion, you can't find a hostel better than River Valley Lodge. It sits alone, right in the middle of this beautiful valley. There's a pulley across the river where you can pull yourself across and walk up the hills surrounding the...

Everything here was just wonderful, easy check in and out, all the staff was very personable, and accommodating. The food was such a surprise, they gave you great portions, and it was so good. The River Valley Lodge is AMAZING! From the moment you walk in the door everyone is so friendly and the atmosphere is comfy and welcoming. There's a short hike to a rapid from the property and outdoor games--such as volleyball and a huge life-size chess set. The food is phenomenal and the bar is affordable, especially during happy hour. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The basis of the River Valley Experience is what happens outside the Lodge. A family run business now into its 3rd generation of raft guides, River Valley started as a rafting company on a family farm, in the back blocks of Taihape. With one of the world's top half day Grade 5 rafting trips literally on the doorstep, it was a natural progression. A horse trekking stables was added over time, and it is these two adventurous activities, rafting the beautiful Rangitikei River, and exploring the magnificent hill country which is at core of River Valley. River Valley Lodge is an Adventure Lodge. It was built as a base for rafting and horse back riding, and this has not changed. What has changed is the clientele! The Lodge caters for young backpackers after an adrenaline fueled Grade 5 rafting trip, through to veteran mature adventurers, with an accommodation mix from bunk rooms to en-suited riverside suites. The Lodge restaurant and cafe serves a selection of fresh country style food, much not only prepared on site, but also grown in the extensive vegetable gardens. If shopping and cell phone reception are critical to your daily existence, then River Valley is certainly not the place for you. ... more   less
