There was only one morning that was clear enough to see Mount Taranaki from the motel. Not their fault, but on all other days the mountain was covered in clouds.

Nothing to complain about with this place. Have stayed here on two different occasions for several days and have always been treated well by the owners. Rooms are very roomy and look to have been recently renovated. Always tidy inside and out. Farm animals on-site within a few steps of your back door which gives that friendly country feel. It’s about a 5 minute drive to the main street but it’s great being away from everyone. Can have a good view of Mt Taranaki if the weather is good. This would be my number one motel in NZ

Stayed in unit with twin rooms for Taranaki Dressage Champs with one other person. Much larger than a normal motel. Excellent facility, spotlessly clean and lovely hostess. Would recommend to anyone. Would be particularly suitable for families as there is spacious grounds and animals.

We spent Hurricane Gabrielle at Kerry Lane. We were heading south & needed to stop. It couldn’t have been better. We stayed 2 days. Fantastic welcome from the owner. The rooms are really spacious & comfortable. There was a wrap-around deck & horses & in the pasture in front. Views of Mount Taranaki volcanco. Kitchen really well equipped. Everything you could possibly need.

Visited Hawera for an anniversary event. Motel easy to find, our reservation (on line) was not, the other reviewer commented on the flussed state of the lady operating the venue, and i would have to agree.

shown to our 'meow thump' room (not enough room to swing a cat!), but surprisingly impressed with the presentation, very very clean and tidy. We unpacked, and showered and changed to continue on to our event, but only one bath towel, now very damp after being used by two.. called into reception on the way out to request at an additional towel for the morning, and was told very abruptly that the second towel was in the vanity unit.. like inferring how stupid was I not to look there!! like that's where every motel keeps it's other towel in a double unit!!!

Came back very late, like 1am, and then the bloody rooster started crowing at 4.30am.. WTF? the model farm yard was right outside our window!!, the place had lots of vacancy's so why stick us in the corner unit with the farm yard outside the window!!, we're not moaning townies!! we live on a lifestyle farm and know the noises animal make, but pleaseeeee at a motel on the edge of an urban town! when I mentioned it the next morning, to the grumpy lady, she turned her back on me and stormed off... poor form really.

My wife and I are consumate travellers, for business I have travelled to Australia more than 30 times in Five years, so stay in a variety of motels and hotels, and we travel alot in NZ. I am embarrased by the reception of a lot of motels in NZ, that they laughingly call the Hospitality Industry, more like the Hostility Industry....

I stayed here over Xmas. And was super excited about it. But it turned out to be only average when I had hoped for something more special.

Upsides:
The farm yard animals
Private alcoves for bbqs etc
An we had a large unit with two bedrooms which was nice for a family holiday.

Downsides:
Fully equipped kitchen means a microwave, toaster, some elements, electric frying pan and fridge. No oven.

The price - I've stated other places in hawera and while they lack the outdoor space they are cheaper and the units themselves nicer.

The people who rub the place give you the impression they don't especially enjoy what they do. For the woman I dealt with it was all a hastle.

By way of disclaimer I had a sick child with me an had to pay a soilage charge. This was legitimate on their part to charge. My review isn'teant to criticise the fee but has been influenced by the way the moteliers dealt with the issues (ie rudely)

We booked a unit and we had to upgrade as there wasn't enough beds for us all which is fair enough. 2 adults and 5 kids. (2 of them are age 2) the room we upgraded to had 3 single beds in one room, a queen bed and single in another and a single in the lounge. We were charged on top of the room rate $20 extra per kid. One child was sleeping with me so she didn't charge for her. It was a total of $80 extra a night on top of the room cost of $160. Is that normal? Found the owner to be extremely rude. Also room was freezing only heating being a oil heater in the lounge which we left running and returned to unit and it had been turned off. We were staying there as we were visiting our sick grandparent and obviously with so many kids couldn't stay with family. Website says wifi and sky. Well there was no sky only free view and when my nephew asked for wifi password she tried to charge him. I will not recommend this place at all and we will never return. Very disappointed with the service here especially after we paid so much money.

This is a great little place to stay that I would highly recommend to anybody especially if you are looking for a affordable retreat away from the kids :-).
The animals were all great including the rooster who didnt crow untill much much later than 4.30.
The service was great and I feel that the reviews commenting about "flustered" lady running the motel are unfair as she was absolutely lovely and couldn't be more helpful, perhaps some people are so far up themselves that they just expect too much.
