If you want to keep your trip flexible, do not book this hotel! Because of conoravirus, I cancel my trip on March. I try to cancel or postpone my booking but i fail. The boss insist to charge me the room fee. This is the only one hotel who refuses to cancel my booking for this trip. Hope everthing goes well soon in Japan. But i will never ever book this hotel again. I think there will be lots of choice nearby around this area. Write this to warn other visitor this real situation when you would like to cancel room with emergency. Keep your eyes open to find other hotels will be better!…
My room was smelling of cigarettes smoke, in addition this room had, on the other side of the wall, a common toilet that was generating a lot of noise. It was just not possible to sleep. The mattress was way too thin, the overall result wass a bed too hard to sleep on. Never again. Terrible night.
paper-thin, uncomfortable futons. I had to rent (seriously????) 2 more futons for 500 yen each but it didn't make it any better. And not being able to shower in the morning is a serious pain. Too many rules, for not much given in return. Staff were really unfriendly. the food was very ordinary - I have eaten loads of meals across Japan, including onsens and this would have to be one of the worse meals that I had during my 3 and half week trip.
This is not a Japanese ryokan. It is a Minshuku. That means there are no extra amenities. You have to pay for your towel, you have to pay for your robe, the futon mattress to sleep on is very thin. The bedding is coarse. The bath is only open from 6 PM to 9 PM. It’s small and there can be a long wait to get in. There are no other showers available on the property. Dinner was generous, but served in a communal room. Breakfast was traditional Japanese with rice raw egg and grilled fish. They do not have rates for solo travelers. Only 2 people minimum. So for all this I paid 24,000 yen about $210 US. For a nice ryokan with a quiet meal in my room and private onsen this would have been high end, but ok. Instead I feel like I’ve been camping. Read all the small print before you book this place. …
Somehow I expected this hotel to be located at the end of the Kumano Kodo hiking trail, but it was in "downtown" Kii Katsuura. Great location, opposite a Family Mart (convenience store) and only 300m from the JR railway station. My room was spacious, for a tatami room and I had the best night's sleep in years. The futon was extremely comfortable, as was the pillow and the air conditioner was a delight. The staff explained all "rules" to me when I checked in (early check in wasn't an issue). I believe that some staff speak very good English, but as I speak some (very poor) Japanese, I didn't find out for myself. The staff were all friendly and eager to help. I was a bit disappointed that there was only an O'furo because I had expected a full onsen, but even so, the O'furo was very welcome at the end of a long day. Would I go back again? For sure.…
