I stayed with my family in January of 2020. We stayed for only a night, and the Tudor style of the building blew me away! An absolutely gorgeous and clean hotel, with the most friendly staff who were always keen for a chat. Superb snow fields that you could basically sink into like a cloud, fluffiest snow. I’m not super into snowboarding, but this resort was a lot of fun! Very convenient locker set up for all our snow gear.

This place might have been great 10-15 years ago, but the crowds who flock here from thousands of miles away wanting the Japanese powder experience will most likely be disappointed. The powder we got was tracked out in a fast 15-20 minutes, and it had snowed a lot (plus 20 inches) the night prior. It gets tracked out fast because it's a very small resort and for some reason they let busses from other resorts drive there before the resort actually opens in the morning, so you have to compete with a lot of people coming in from Happo for fresh turns. The resort is way too small for this. If I could do it all over again I'd hire a backcountry guide, or hike the backcountry exclusively. The resorts in the area are basically tourist traps that get tracked out fast. Even the off piste stuff.

Cortina is fine if you want to stay at Hotel Green Plaza and be part of the factory that it is. Visiting for a day ski is very disappointing. Restaurants aren’t open if you just want a drinks and snack; only if your are paying for a full lunch. Internet and information is poor, most staff don’t speak any English. We have done a month in Japan over 2 seasons and this is the worst place we have stopped at for a day. If you do choose to queue for half an hour to Order lunch be prepared to be disappointed with all food being served buffet style

Firstly the things that could be improved- This hotel has a website which says that the hotel provides a free shuttle to and from Nagano station, and that the shuttle must be booked in advance, however there is no indication as how to book it. When we checked out of the hotel, it was raining and very windy. We took the free hotel shuttle to the local station at Minami-Otari. The bus did not pull into the large covered area at the front door of the hotel, and we had to walk with our luggage in the rain a distance of 50 metres to board the bus. On two of the five days of our stay, the room cleaning was undertaken by a team who were focussed on getting the job done, no matter whether it was convenient for the paying guest, or not. We asked them to come back in 10 minutes, but they would be deterred. On the other three days, two women did the cleaning in a more relaxed friendly manner. We used the luggage forwarding service (takkyubin). It opens at 7am. I went there with our luggage at 7.15am and the counter was unattended. The employee also has the job of cleaning out all the ski lockers and he was occupied doing this. I caught his attention and asked for assistance, but I was ignored. Later, an employee in a suit came past and I asked him for assistance- He then spoke to the man cleaning out the lockers and he than came over to help. This is not good customer service. We caught a cab to Happo One one night, to have dinner- The taxi fare was about 5700 yen each way, which added considerably to the cost of the meal. The hotel looks glamorous from the outside, but the accommodation rooms are very dated. The beds are much firmer than in western hotels. Even though it was a bed, it was the same firmness as sleeping on a futon, on the floor. There is free wifi, but it keeps dropping out and its very slow. We found that it worked well at 5am. GOOD points- Ski-in, ski out. Convenient ski lockers, but the locker room was quite cold and draughty. Convenient in-house ski rental shop with good quality gear. Great coffee in the coffee/ pizza/ pasta/ cake cafe on the ground floor. With amazing latte art! The food, and the cakes were also very good. Dinner buffet was 4300 yen for an adult. There is a very large range of things to try and a few dishes change each night, meaning that you can eat there every night and still find it interesting. Japanese and western dishes. Dessert and fruit were good. Water and green tea incuded, but not coffee. There is a good guest laundry. 300 yen per load of washing. Driers are also available but we hung the washed clothes in our room overnight and they dried well. The hot spring was great, and also very popular at times. At 6.45 am the onsen was crowded, At 7 am everyone has gone to breakfast, and I had the place to myself. Similarly at 6pm, its empty, but later in the evening its crowded again. Very nice outdoor pool with a view of the slopes. There is an Information Desk which is staffed with an English speaking employee, who varied from day to day. Although this person ccould speak English, he didnt know much, usually couldnt help much. I think his main purpose was to book tours etc. I would stay again, because of the ski-in ski-out convenience, and the great onsen.

First of all I will say I LOVE Japan and have visited serveral times for extended stays. In a country renowned for customer service, Hotel Green Plaza is hopelessly out stripped by third world countries. In it's restaurants, staff stand and talk amongst themselves requiring patrons to actually walk up to them to order or request a menu. Dirty plates from patrons past go unattended until the table is needed, and Staff have no understanding of the food or drinks menu being served. When a straight spirit was ordered I received 1 shot mixed with about 3-4 shots of water in a tall glass. The general staff are no better, with both parties failing to have a single employee with even an elementary level of English. Whilst in Echoland all staff including cleaners spoke sufficient English, Japanese and a few others to comfortably converse without misinterpretation. Moving on, you've arrived early. Sorry you cannot hold your bags in the lobby, you must have them held by staff and you may not open your bags or take them into the change rooms so as to go on the mountain. But that's not all. You must pay 500Y per hour your bags are held. Having spent a week already in the Nagano Prefecture ski fields on this trip alone. The food here at this hotel is also much to be desired. Not only on occasion 100% mark up from neighboring resorts (which includes both drinks and food) but is smaller portions and made with far less care. I found onion, eggshell and a few other scraps in my scrambled eggs alone. Apart from the mountain itself; this resort is ATROCIOUS! I would recommend only ever coming here on a day trip. For all that's it's worth, a Hotel in Echoland has the same size room for less than one third the price.

Architecture of the hotel is lovely. Friendly service. Room is spacious but there were yellow droplets is stains on the toilet seat. It was easily wiped. This goes to show that they’ve done a bad job with cleanliness. Bed was not comfortable at all. Sheets was as rough as paper. The room is a twin bed. If you need a third bed (triple), you’ll have to spread the futon (Japanese style bed mattress) out yourself!!! Bathroom amenities were minimal. Overall: looks 4 stars, is 3 stars, feels 2 stars.

It might seem like a great idea to overnight in cortina but really it is just as easy to catch the bus for the day Don't worry if powder is on there will be plenty for everyone And you will spare yourself a trip back to the 70s with an overcrowded Japanese dimension in what must be the closest thing to Dracula's castle outside Transylvania The onsen is nice but crowded The buffet is an experience in overpriced trough feeding notable only for the crazy range of dishes Perhaps if you took your dog to the paw paw park you might enjoy it more?? Anyways catch the bus instead

Once you get here, you don't have to go anywhere else. Super convenient with a ski locker allocated per room, walk outside and there are the lifts. And for the middle of January, no waiting at the lifts. A few restaurants in the hotel and the big one does such a big buffet you don't need to go anywhere else as you can have something different every night. Good for breakfast too. Huge games room down stairs keeps kids happy for ages. The room we had was split level with sleeping upstairs - a bit awkward with luggage but bearable, the beds were very comfortable and the room looked out at the slopes. The onsen is very good too, open until 2AM.

Big hotel with lots of tourists coming for the ski resort in Winter. The check-in is a 3PM and check-out at 10AM, no exception. There is only one Express train to this village per day which arrives at noon, so that most of the guests arrive at 12:30 at the hotel and have to wait until 3PM for their room (even if it's ready...) No storage room for the luggage, you have to let it in lockers which cost 600 to 800 Yens per suitcase unless you keep it with you until 3PM. Perfect location for skiing (just down the slopes). Except the hotel activities and the ski, there is nothing else to do around it, no restaurant close. We ate breakfast and dinner at the hotel restaurant. The buffets were very complete, but the quality of the food was average. The room was big with a nice traditional part with tatamis. The wifi connection was very poor in the room, we had to go to the lobby to use it. We enjoyed the hot baths (onsen) in the hotel a lot.
