My family and I (three kids 15, 12, and 10) stayed for two nights at the new San Carlos Beach Inn and really enjoyed it. It is an amazing value for the price and is located overlooking the plaza in the small beach town of San Carlos, only a 5 min walk to the beach. The two Paul's that run it are extremely friendly and accomodating.
Our room had a bedroom with flatscreen TV, living room, kitchen and bathrooom, as well as a small balcony overlooking the plaza. We were also able to use the rooftop gazebo/barbacue area. We bought local fish and grilled it up there. They also have free wifi. The restaurant below is ok but a bit slow the night we were there. They also provide ATV tours and surfing lessons. We did the ATV tour near sunset and had a blast on the beach. You can walk to San Carlos Beach which is nice and calm waves, or drive two minutes to Palmar beach which has much better surfing waves.
We highly recommend the place and plan to go back.

I love the silence, the ambiance the old western look, close to the beach and not even a 2 minute walk to restaurant and the market, very clean and quiet, the roof top getaway is what made it, you can relax all day there, the owners took care of our needs without asking twice, and the breakfast outstanding, I am defiantly going back again, the best part is the price, it will not empty your pockets, very affordable, let me tell you I've rented in the city every time and the busy streets and traffic drove me nuts, out in San Carlo total opposite peace and quiet, well recommended

I stayed at the San Carlos Beach Inn for a week at the end of September. After a small miscommunication about my arrival time - Americo, the inn owner, personally drove down to the surf school to pick me and bring me back to show me to my room. The room was clean, had a/c and even included a little kitchen unit which was very handy. The adjoining Italian restaurant was also a great place to eat. The common area on the rooftop was an awesome place to relax, spent many evenings enjoying the peaceful hammock and watching the storms.
Overall, my stay at the inn was great. Very relaxing with hospitable staff, great location and wonderful atmosphere!

My girlfriend and I feel so fortunate to have found this place. We stayed on the first floor in the, double Queen room. The room was quite large, and had a couch, table and chairs, shelves to store food or wine a coffee maker and fridge. The room is also equipped with a flat screen TV and A/C. We were very comfortable there. We had a nice bathroom with an oversized shower. The room itself was worth the price. The location and the palapa were a bonus The building has a good location within walking distance to small stores and 4 or 5 good restaurants. There is a third floor palapa that is really nice. I mean really nice. It has a couch with cushions, three or four cushioned chairs, a bar with stools where you can get your email. The wifi worked great up there. The palapa area also has a bbq, a sink and a stereo. I almost forgot there is also a hammock to take a nap in and a ceiling fan. It is quite the Oasis. We really enjoyed hanging out up there. There is a great view of the little park, and you can see the ocean from up there. The ocean is an easy 10 minute walk away. The owner, Amerigo, is one of the nicest people you could meet. He was so helpful with information about Panama. He gave us directions to the Beach,"the short cut". He recommended the chinese restaurant for dinner and the Cafe Tete for breakfast. He is in the process of building another house with possibly some rental cabins not far from the town. He took us on a little tour of the area and his building site. What a view. He told us how to catch the bus up on the Pan Am Highway and even took us to the stop. I think he could tell we weren't real comfortable with the idea of doing it by ourselves so he stayed there with us and flagged the bus down. We feel like we made a friend. When we go back to Panama the trip will not be complete without a stay with Amerigo at the San Carlos Beach Inn.

My wife and I stayed here from Jan. 17th to the 21st. We actually left a day earlier. It was almost a disaster when we found out that the new manager had quit and the owner could not find our reservation. All he had was the lower floor to give us. We had reserved a room above with a kitchen Etc. There is not much to do or eat here (unless you get a room with a kitchen) so you must go to Coronado. Plenty of shopping and restaurants there. The owner needs to really pay attention to this property. We cut our stay short because on the lower level there are shutters with locks on them that appear to be secure but they are not. You can just push them open. We came home one night late and a shutter was swung open, and it appeared someone had broken in. No one did but I spent all night trying to keep it shut and the windows were missing some rinky dink sort of bolts to keep them from being opened even from the outside. I said something to the new manager whom was very nice and had just taken over. I think he was embarrassed by the fact it was so unsecured. There are plenty of break ins in this area so that did not help the fact that someone could just walk right in (through a window).

What a fun place to stay! Great location and super clean. My son and his friend stayed in the surfer/backpacker room for only $30, which was great for them to store their boards and stuff. My husband and I stayed in the Park View Suite upstairs, a neat little 1-bedroom/1-bath overlooking the quiet little plaza. Nice to sit on the balcony enjoying our Panamanian coffee. The owner had good info on the local surf, so the boys were able to walk to the breaks. From ATV beach riding with the owner to hanging out on the 3rd floor BBQ area, it was the best place we stayed on our Central American tour.

Charming, clean hotel right off the town square. Landed here by accident when our charter boat was cancelled. We were 5 adults and 4 kids. Rosa made us feel very welcomed and supplied us with extra dishes and kitchen utensils. We congregated on the outdoor deck which had nice views of both the mountains and the water. The kids loved to shop in the town. Made day trips to various beaches in the area.

Stayed here for one week in October. Paul and Rosa, the owners, introduced me, for breakfast, to an English lady who was traveling alone like me, discovering the country. We spent the week together! Good breakfast, really nice place, clean, safe, and "local". Bbq if addicted... In walking distance : 3 or 4 mini supermarketsand restaurants less than 5 mn / beach less than 15mn where you can find some places to eat and rest / lots of cheap buses to go throughout the country ... Spanish lessons available in the hotel (contact through the hotel).

Hi Robert
Great idea...I've been in the area for 10 years and believe its one of the best traditional coastal pueblos.
Everthing is here
Hospital, markets.church etc.
Its a fishermans pueblo
The first real marina on the coast is being built outfront by the fishermans beach
Great waves here if you surf
Theres good slow growth in the area
24hr supermarkets etc 10 min away in Coronado
Take care and thanks for your interest
