Nëkwéta Surf Camp is set up in a luxurious tropical garden, just 200 meters from the beach. A charming and comfortable Melanesian style hut, built with timber and river stones sets the authentic Caledonian atmosphere. The hut is fully furnished with artful wood work and counts 2 double beds on the mezzanine and 2 single beds on the ground floor. The bar and dining-room are in a large open Faré where a massive table made of local timber sits, surrounded by the garden’s vegetation, for the guests’ delight.

We stayed 4 nights in the tropical upstairs room. The room was uniquely built and well set out with a double and single bed both were comfortable. The shower was huge and hot at night and the room decoration was nice with beautiful lamps. Air conditioning was available in the room enabling you to escape the heat. Getting up and down the stairs to the room are quite steep but this gives you a feeling of being in a tree house when sitting on the deck. We couldn't get strong wifi in our room but that made it more relaxing as you finally put devices down and relaxed and listened to the birds and the crashing waves of the ocean. WiFi is available throughout the camp. Bottles of mosquito repellent were available to use both inside the room and in all main areas. The host Stephanie was amazing, she spoke very good English, made us feel welcome, the meals she cooked were beautiful and even she even catered to my dietary requirements as I had given enough notice. Breakfast was at 7am dinner was at 7pm. Both portion sizes were huge and I never left feeling hungry. Stephanie also helped us book activities that were run outside of the camp and spoke to people on our behalf when we were getting lost in translation. We went on an eco tour with Manu her husband out to green island which is well worth it. Access to the beach is within walking distance. This is a family run camp and a little slice of paradise. Thank you so much for having us.

I booked this little gem at the last minute, on a hunch, while we were doing a tour of New Caledonia. I'm very glad I did. It was absolutely charming and brimming with ambiance and character.

The property is set in a tropical garden with a central case (thatched roof bungalow) with various little bungalows scattered over the property. We stayed in the newest bungalow. It was adorable. Carriage shaped with a wooden interior.

Stephanie was welcoming and delightful, as was her cooking. There was no menu, the meal was whatever Stephanie was cooking from local ingredients. Stephanie was kind enough to cook an alternative meal for one of our family members who is a fussy eater. Dinner was served at a long communal table where we had the opportunity to meet other guests.

It was an easy and short walk to La Roche Percee.

This place was one of the highlights of our holiday. I would not hesitate to stay here again.

We had decided to get away from it as much as possible with the intention to surf and fish in a pristine environment with conservation and sustainable practices high on the list of priorities.

Sebastian and Manu were in charge of the Trip both native to the Island. Initially there was some quiet moments and the obvious language barrier was a problem as they sussed us out and we tried to understand the dynamic of the camp etc..
After an amazing meal and a few beers it was all smiles and our next day was mapped out.

Excellent waves and fishing followed and backed up by amazing food and great laughs round the table each night, we soon were surrounded by smiles from the locals in this qiuet sleepy mangrove village which was clean and friendly with plenty of Mangrove jack action.

the accomadation was rustic but clean perfect for fishermen and surfers not for families, with a fire in the evening and great food cooked by Stephanie the men soon slipped out of modern society back to a more social time with no TV or first world problems!

The waves and fish kept coming and we lapped it up. Manu and Sebastion looked after our every need even sorting my Visa problems out at the airport on the way back.
When we left we felt like lifelong friends and will be returning next year as it ticked the boxes.

The surfing is for Advanced surfers only as it is fast shallow reefs 10 k off shore and is not forgiving, you need to be experienced to get the most from it.
fast round tailed boards booties and rashie are needed on most waves.

The fishing is also high intensity and weak or cheap gear will be broken straight away 80lb line and Saltiga or Stella reels with Expensive GT rods only do not bother otherwise, the fishing is conservation minded barbless hooks and only taking enough to eat of fish like Tuna, all the Reef fish go back to keep the stocks up.

all in all a great spot for the sufer/fisherman to get back to nature!

I am writing this through my wife's log in but Manu and Stephanie will know it is from Simon from Cairns in Oz. Apologies for the late response! I stayed here in July 2016 after a 2 year work stint in PNG. Needed time to recoup, re surf and renew. Nekweta delivered this therapy in buckets. After enquiring if I could come in my own Manu said yes and i locked it in. I was lucky to have only 1 other surfer during my stay for 2 weeks and we surfed every day but 2 i think. The surf was good for an older have not been in the water for a time surfer like me and the best part was that the waves were very good and the locals shared them around more than once!
Good for those who dont want the hassle of Bali and beyond. What i liked about this place was there were hardly any tourists around at all. Can you remember the last time you went to an overseas surf destination with only you and a couple of other surfers in the water? No.....me neither but Nekweta delivers!
I saw a negative review on here and that is a shame as there is nothing negattive about Nekweta. Stephanie who professes to be a teacher is really a prodigy of Raymond Blanc - a 2 star Michelin chef disguised as a teacher! Every night when you thought the food could not get any better then every night it did! I had to be careful to not offend as so much food was being served i started to put on weight. Fortunately surfing my proverbial off for 3 to 4 hours a day in excellent waves gave me the perfect excuse to say yes to that next piece of home made cake. The organic vension was the jewel!
Vist the chocolatier and the museum in Bourail- a good chance to experience some south Pacific french culture! Visit the beach cafe where the crepes are as good as those outside the Moulin Rouge in Paris!
I could not fault the experience, hosts and environment as it opened up its generosity to an outsider for a short time with open arms. If you are looking for bars, surf, bars, surf and beach then go to Bali. If you are looking for seclusion to disconnect, reconnect with surfing and nature then this is the place for you. Ok it might be over $200 per night all in with accomm, 3 meals a day and a surf trip/ fishing trip thrown in for 6 hours a day but you can pay more than this for a night in Sydney at Bondi and surf with the rest of Sydney for the same price without the magic. I know which one i would take every time. If you are not sure then dont go but if you are not sure but want to take a chance then i don't think that you will be disappointed! Keep going Manu and Stephanie- au revoir!

We spent a week at Nekweta & loved every day. The place had a very homely appeal, rooms were spotless & at times we were the only people around so made it easy to relax.
Stephanie looks after the catering & bungalows, all meals were great, we had pre-booked breakfast, lunch & dinner and were never disappointed. I do not eat seafood & this wasn't a problem as Stephanie prepared a meal to suit both of us. Meals ranged from baguettes & jams, fresh passionfruit & cereals for breakfast, large baguettes with different fillings or quiches & cake for lunch & dinner we had a variety of local beef, fish, venison, rice, pasta, quiche & a small dessert. Stephanie was always smiling & was keen to have a chat & make you feel welcome. Our upstairs bungalow was fantastic, plenty of space with our own bathroom but there is also a Melanesian hut which would suit a family with a shared bathroom outside (families often stayed there during our week). The camp can fit a total of 14 guests. There is free WIFI in the common/restaurant area.
Manu operates the boat for fishing & surf trips, we only went surfing & had a great time. Conditions varied on the reefs, locals were friendly & we surfed every day but one. The boat is a good size & well maintained, always clean & is it's just a walk away to where it is launched. Manu is very knowledgeable about the area, having grown up there & is very respected in the community.
There are some walking trails in the area, one down to Turtle Bay which was nice. The local town of Bourail is about 6kms away, there isn't a lot to see there, we did visit the small museum which was interesting but didn't take long to do.
For the majority of the time we just surfed, read & relaxed in the garden area. We are definitely keen to go back in the future & recommend staying there to others.

We stayed three times at Nekweta and in all the rooms.

They are well decorated, each with a great tropical ambiance, clean and comfortable.

A place for nature lovers at an excellent international level just 100m from a two kilometers long sandy turtle nesting beach.

The jacuzzi is a must do after a drink around the fire.

Stephanie is a wonderful hostess and will serve yummy dinners.

We cannot recommend it enough.

Bungalows nested in a tropical forest, between the river and the sandy beach were sea turtles use to egg.
Spotted on the La Roche Percée beach, the place is held by à charming young couple, very involved into nature and environment protection.
The smooth waves on the beach are good for learning SUP, and your host will drive you on demand with his motor boat to the reef barrier for beautiful surf sessions.

Loved our stay here in a beautifully designed hut.

Even though we spent only one night here we will remember the time we spent here fondly - truly worth a visit, we were sad to leave.

The hut slept up to 8 people, and included a loft section with double beds. All beds had mosquito nets too.

The owners, Stephanie and Manu were very helpful and friendly, and assisted us with great local information, booking arrangements and answered lots of our questions.

Our son was delighted with the toys they had out for children to share and kept him occupied for ages, allowing us to make use of the sun lounges. The property is landscaped beautifully with lots of areas for relaxing. It is a 2 min walk to the beach or even closer to the river.

The meals, all cooked by Stephanie were fabulous, with much of the produce coming from her garden or the local area. Delicious. Plus we had the opportunity to dine with and met other guests.

The property is landscaped beautifully with lots of areas for relaxing. It is only a 2 min walk to the beach or even closer to the river.

Bathroom is seperate to the hut, which may not suit some but did not bother us. All facilities were very clean.

Thanks for your wonderful hospitality! A highlight of our trip.

Well built bungalow in tropical wood, spacious bedroom and nice bathroom. It was a weekday and we were the only customers! Stéphanie cooked us a delicious and copious meal the first evening. She had to leave the next day for France but sent us to a restaurant down the road within walking distance, where we were also the only customers. It is true to say there are very few tourists in New Caledonica. The few people we met tended to be visiting family working there. We are not surfers Stephanie arranged for us to go on a snorkelling trip from the nearby Sheraton hotel. Also there is a lovely walk straight from the Nekweta Surf Camp to the nearby beaches and the Roche Percée (pierced rock). Only negative points: There is no sea view from the bungalows and there are mosquitoes at dusk

Hi Natacha, The zone around the surf camp is a marine reserve. It's possible to do spearfishing after the turtle bay only (around 20 minutes walking). But it 's happen that the water is not clear if there is a big swell. The best way will be to go outside of the bay with boat.
