Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Heading north for work, we dropped in here to grab lunch and stretch our legs. Simple basic type hotel meals that filled the stomach. Not fancy but Simple and nice tasting. Friendly staff and nice atmosphere.

The date of stay up there is not true... at all, actually but I couldnt chose date any earlier, so please excuse me.

I stayed there in December of 2005. I was heading to Japan via NC from New Zealand. In NZ, I had bought a flight and hotel NEAR AIRPORT IN NOUMEA at travel agency Holiday Shoppe.

At the same time I paid this agency shuttle bus fee from the airport and to the airport too. It was quite expensive, but I imagined this was because its a french territory and touristy place.

It turned out that the agency actually booked a taxi which I was asked to pay for by the driver, and the hotel was not in Noumea at all but in Bourail, half way across the country!!!

I didnt know what to do, I showed the driver the shuttle bus ticket I had paid for, and he was so kind that he said he will speak with the boss to handle the case with the agency (I doubt if that agency ever paid them though.. but they were a chain, not some dodgy agency) and left me there, which was problem solved for the day but... how will I get to the airport?

The people who own the hotel was travelling to the capital by chance in two days, and they booked a youth hostel for me and actually drove me there! Not to mention helping me get the bags to the room and also booking the shuttle bus from the youth hostel to the airport... Im speechless with what theyve done for me.

If it wasnt for the kind helping hand from the owners, I would have been left in Bourail with no money (I was a teen student then, and didnt know that cc (visa) doesnt work in many parts of the country. had little cash as everything was paid for to the agent!) and Im not sure what I wouldve done... call mom to come take me, maybe. I still regret I didnt sue the agency for their fraud. I really hope they paid you, La Nera!

So about the hotel, I love geckos and was amused by the numerous amount of geckos gathering to the outside lamp at the night. The view from the pool is fantastic, and you see cattles near the river below. The nature is vast! You can walk to the villge center by foot. They had little museum, post office, super market and little markets, some souvenir shops, and paid toilet. The place seemed very safe, and people were not so interested in making you buy something, it seemed. Not in a rude way, just didnt push like many tourist places. I guess they know that if you dont buy it, someone else will soon enough.

I thank you so much La Nera.

We were on our way back to Noumea Airport and we decided we'd try to spend a night in Bourail. We arrived and asked for a room just before the hotel closed. The room was okay but small. It was close to the road so we could hear cars and trucks during the night. The person at the front desk the next morning was useless and not friendly. Wifi was not working and we did not feel welcome, so we left quickly. A good spot for one night.

I stayed here for a night on a trip around Grande Terre. The hotel is pleasantly situated looking out over the river flats and cow paddocks, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. I had been travelling for some time and they were able to do a load of washing for me (and were the only hotel I found in all of New Caledonia who would do so). The hotel is old and the rooms are starting to get a bit run down. For example, the airconditioner in my room leaked all night, dripping onto the sofa. The restaurant does a good evening meal and breakfast (bread, butter, jam and coffee) is served on the patio looking out over the river. Recommended if you are looking for somewhere to sleep for a night, but look further if you want amenities and a bit of luxury.

My partner and i were on our way back to Noumea, when we decided to stop for lunch as we were so hungry!!

Although the restaurant had already closed, they managed to serve us this amazing meal. To make it easy we both chose the deer curry with coconut milk.

The food came in really warm, and the portions were generous, a very feeling serve for each. This did not spot us, neither of us could resist the divine rich and decadent chocolate mousse.

On the overall the property offers authentic country style cooking. A real treat for the hungry traveler !!

We stayed one night at la Nera in the Suite facing the river.
The view is beautiful and we loved the nice décor in the room and in the restaurant. The staff is very kind and helpful. The room was cleaned as well as the bathroom. I will suggest to place a shower curtain along the bathtub to avoid water on the floor. Resturant is so and so, we did not like it very much. Had to wait in the morning to have breakfast at 7; we were standing in the restaurant waiting to know where to seat but the lady, who was serving another table, never looked on us...

We've been here two times for eating and it was really great! They were all very nice & also had an english meal card for us!
The cook came two us and gave us (in english) some recommendations what to eat if you want seafood or meat and what is local. He also gave us tips what to do in new caledonia.
We ate fish, lasagne, prawns, curry, pate, cheese... And what you really have to eat is the mousse au chocolat from his wife! Awesome!!
So nice people, good food, clean!

My friend and I spent one night in La Nera Hotel on our way North. Being on the main road and the edge of the town, the Hotel was easy to find. Although a small mid range hotel, the site is attractive and sits in a well maintained garden with a river frontage. Our room was clean and beds comfortable. Good food, wine and friendly people made it great value for money.

The rooms are very small. When you open the suitcase you can't move. Handle to open the cupboard broken. In the bathroom the towel bar is broken, 2 sachets for body and shampoo. For 3 people, 2 towels were given and when we asked for a 3rd the answer was "this is to prevent customers from taking them away" and we did not have an extra towel.....
Fortunately the restaurant is very good....
