The Aarburg is a boutique style hotel and modern Café rolled into one single business. We are beautifully located on the Aare River with stunning views of the famous Jungfrau, Mönch, Schynige Platte and more. Our Cafe which opened in April 2021, serves fresh local homemade breakfast, brunch and lunch with vegetarian and vegan options. We offer espresso based specialty coffees and we use coffee beans from one of Switzerland's best small roasteries. Our region boasts some excellent wines and craft beers and we serve almost exclusively local products. Our terrace is open to the public and hotel guests alike and we would like to welcome everyone to enjoy the unmatched views with us.

A lovely Swiss-style hotel located perfectly on the river front in the beautiful Interlaken
Snowy mountains viewable from the bedroom window really made it a picturesque setting. Although visiting in the warmer months would be just as good.
We were warmly welcomed by an enthusiastic employee, a Canadian woman who’s name we didn’t get. She made recommendations on restaurants, which were amazing, and also places to go and visit in the surrounding region.
She even checked the live cameras on top of the mountains to provide us with weather conditions - amazing customer service.
We highly recommend taking a train to Lauterbrunnen followed by the gondola up to Murren - the place is stunning and the views are incredible!
Breakfast was enjoyable and included fresh bread from the bakery over the road, homemade Bircher muesli and the best green tea I’ve ever had!
A breathtaking trip which has us wanting to go back as soon as possible!

We are not sure how this review slipped our responses but there you go.... we are still ticking, having added a cafe to our perfect location and we've renovated the building to make it even more comfortable. Thanks for the great review Stephfairless! Actually the Canadian (Half Swiss) Lady is one of the two bosses at The Aarburg and she is still smiling at everyone she meets! Her name is Kat!

Had a great time in Interlaken and are so glad we found The Aarburg hotel.
The rooms are a little basic, no wardrobe, no TV - but it’s all very clean and if you are walking it’s perfect.
The staff were super helpful and friendly, and the food and service were great in the cafe.
As a hotel visitor you get free breakfast with self serve; muesli, yogurt, great scrambled eggs, tea + coffee, juice, bread, croissants.
You can pay for breakfast which included eggs Benedict, eggs Florentine - which was great too.

Great cafe and ambience to spend time just watching the world go by.

If we stayed again in Interlaken, we 100% would look no further than this place.

We had a small but very nice room overlooking the river and main entrance to the hotel. There is no elevator or air conditioning so prepare accordingly. The absence of AC would only be an issue in the midst of a heat wave, which we experienced. I'm guessing that this is never an issue under normal circumstances. The bathroom was a bit tight, but workable. Hosts and staff were friendly and helpful. The included breakfast was serviceable if not terribly varied. The room had no safe or fridge, but there is a common room/lounge on the lobby level where you can refrigerate your drinks or perishable items.

Hi Michael. Thank you for taking the time to review us. We appreciate your comments about the size of the room you had and the small bathroom. The building was built well over 100 years ago, so when doing the renovation work in the last year, we chose to keep the layout and the quaintness of the building but add greater comfort and a contemporary feel. Old but new. Yes, heatwaves are tricky in Europe - not many people escape their wrath but with a cool, cool river right at the door step, at least there is always somewhere too cool off whilst staying with us.

Just back from an Amazzzzzing 8 days in Switzerland, 7 of them spent in The Aarburg Hotel. Can't fault the place in terms of comfort, accessibility to the Alps & friendly staff. Their continental breakfast was enough to fuel me till lunch & there's no shortage of food shops around for picking up picnic bits. Lots of people dropping by to their cafe & food looked great. Would have liked the option of an earlier breakfast (8-10am currently) but it was only a very minor issue for me. Located in the nicer part of town about 20min beautiful walk along the river from the train station. It was lovely to sit out by the river in the evening & watch the world (& ducks) go by. Stayed in their only single room which was located at the front overlooking the river, a great place for people watching in the evening. No TV in the room but it didn't bother me as i spent very little time in the hotel. No regrets staying here & i'll be back once the legs have recovered after all the hiking!

TA reviews are subjective so what pleases one person may not another.

The hotel is managed by ex-Melburnian (Australia) Tim and Swiss-Canadian Kat, a personable and competent couple.

We were in the smallest room, 102. Tim kindly gave us access to the storeroom opposite to place our cases.

In theory, the hotel should receive a 4/5 or better from every patron. The view from the balcony of 102 of the Aare River and mountains was superb.

In practice, however, we two found this hotel delivered the worst sleep of any during the first half of my two month global Eurailpass that commenced in the UK.

According to Kat, travellers from the USA are by far the hotel's most frequent guests. I daresay these prefer as we dl medium firm beds and quite soft pillows. This hotel had rock hard examples of both.

This meant poor sleep. A scratchy doona did not assist, and nor was a top sheet provided. I'd have thought Tim as originally from Oz would recognise how the latter gives a comfortable sleep. Doonas are too hot, and the room was warm.

Nor was there aircon. I do not believe in the myth of climate change as it has naturally changed AD and BC, but the standard excuse of it is only hot for two weeks per annum does not cut it when Europe has had a drought.

The bathroom was tiny as was the shower area. Hot water worked well but the cabinet over the sink was easy to bump into.

WiFi worked fairly well.

The room lacked a power point that fitted Euro adaptors. Storeroom had one.

The breakfast had good yoghurt and croissants but no pastries. Poor compared to UK, Italy. Spain and France.

The hotel was said at the BLS railway station to be seven mkns' walk. More like 12. 15 with cases.

The owner ought consider the above suggested changes. The hotel appears to have increased rates since I booked.

Loved our stay! Simple , clean, quiet and very friendly staff at the check in. Breakfast was delicious with fresh eggs, yogurt, bread, croissants, coffee. Easy side entrance for a free hours. No TV in the room as a side note but was not a problem for us. Hot shower and clean bathroom

Thank you for the great feedback and we love that you loved the visit. Having no TV's in the rooms is definitely a polarising decision we made, but when you have beautiful views out the windows, who needs a TV right? We do have fre, high speed internet for those who need/ccan't live without it.

This little gem of a hotel in Interlaaken is perfect. From communication prior to booking (I had a lot of questions), to the kind and helpful staff and best of all - the most beautiful and convenient location! Not necessary to look any further - this place has it all. Rooms are comfortable, breakfast is good and it’s overlooking the river. Also, the Wi-Fi is strong and so is the shower pressure. No hesitation to strongly recommend for your stay in Interlaaken!

We happened upon the Aarburg Cafe as we were looking for some place to eat after arriving on the train from Lucerne and checking into our room along the canal by the train station. Looked like a nice place and we grabbed one of the tables out front and ordered some wine and hummus. The wines were great and the trio of hummus and bread was exceptional. Even better was the relaxed atmosphere and the friendly owners. We learned about the hotel, the area, and their journeys from Canada and Australia that brought them to this slice of heaven by the Aare river. We shared our stories and immediately felt like we were having a drink at a friend's house. The next morning we came back early for breakfast and the Eggs Benedict and Smoothie Bowl's were both phenomenal. They are kind enough to give us tips on where to eat on our travels to Spiez and Oberhofen that day and they didn't steer us wrong. If we weren't so exhausted by our day out we might have popped by for some wine again but ate in our room and then swung by on our final morning for an amazing breakfast again. On our next time in Interlaken we'll definitely check out the rooms as well but look forward to seeing these "friends" again in the future.

We came here for breakfast for the French toast - not something easy to find here where eggs and light breakfast is the staple. It was amazing. We sat outside enjoying the views of the mountains and the river. The service was excellent. I highly recommend.

This is a cute and cozy building with a lot of charm. Located on a beautiful river with views of the river and surrounding mountains are a great way to wake up.

The breakfast was delicious and the coffee was so nice to start the day.

The best part I can recommend is the staff. They are so courteous, nice and helpful. I arrived later in the evening, and they helped me check in without a complaint. Would stay here again.
