My parents had stayed with Steve and Margaret on their trip around South Island and recommended that I did the same - this was the best advice! I was the only guest and Steve and Margaret were so friendly and welcoming - we had such a great evening chatting together. A cyclone had just blocked the road to Franz Josef and Steve and Margaret were a huge help for my onward travel plans. I'm looking forward to recommending Avarest to anyone visiting St Arnaud - it's already a family tradition! Thank you so much!
My wife and I had a fantastic time staying at Avarest Bed and Breakfast in St. Arnaud. The proprietors Margaret and Steve are both really friendly and provide an outstanding service and welcome to guests. The location of the B&B could not be better, just 200 meters to Lake Rotoiti, it is the closest property to the lake in the whole town. Margaret makes wonderful canapés in the early evening and breakfast was delicious featuring eggs, bacon, hash browns, homemade blueberry muffins, freshly picked raspberries, toast and delicious honey from their own hives. They only book a single party of guests on any night, so guests have access and use of the entire lower floor of their house (bedroom, lounge, bathroom). The property is lovely with a very nice garden as well. Overall, it's pretty much a perfect B&B experience and probably the best option for accommodations in St. Arnaud. Thanks for a great time Margaret and Steve! …
The B&B is perfectly located right on the track to Lake Rotoiti, so if you are heading down to Kerr Bay you cant miss it. Steve and Margaret only offer single group bookings, so once you are booked in you can be safe in the knowledge you will be the only guests. You will be looked after, with great facilities, comfortable rooms, a lounge area to your self with refreshment facilities. Margaret and Steve really made our stay, inviting us into their home for drinks and canapés while we chatted away for hours, and breakfast the next day was great. Value for money and a great personal touch, we would definitely make a diversion or plan our trip to go via St Arnaud if we went back!
Very friendly host who will al they can to make your stay comfortable and interesting. They realy make you feel at home. Comfortable room including small fridge, fresh fruit, coffee & tea. This is not a hotel, this is visiting good friends you've just met.
We've enjoyed a perfect stay at Avarest B&B: very friendly and helpful hosts. A rich aperitif before going out for dinner and sumptuous cooked breakfast with a lot of interesting talk and home made muffins. The rooms are clean and of a reasonable size. We haven't had to share the bathroom as they do not rent out the second room if the two parties are not travelling together. Lake Rotoiti is a quiete peaceful place.
