Loved the Brown Trout even with Covet restrictions concerning entertainment and early bar closure but the excellent freshly cooked food and friendly staff made up for the necessary changes.
Rooms large and nicely furnished as is the bathroom containing both bath and walk in shower which is suitable for wheelchair access.Tea, coffee and biscuits provided in room, hair dryer,TV on the wall and plenty of fresh towels provided.
Both evening meals were of a high standard especially the steaks and you can enjoy your breakfast in front of a open log fire. The usual Ulster Fry is available but try the delicious egg and fresh salmon for a change.
The location of the Brown Trout is a bit of the beaten track but there are many well known tourist attractions a short car journey away.
Overall an enjoyable two day stay and hope to return soon when things are back to normality.

Visited the Brown Trout Inn for a one night stay with dinner and breakfast after a very relaxing stroll around the nearby Roe Valley Country Park and a quick shopping trip to Coleraine. This was our first visit here and immediately on arrival we were impressed with the appearance and layout of the place. We were warmly welcomed and checked in without fuss. All the usual admin details were explained clearly. Our room was comfortable and very clean with a spacious and airy feel. Entrance to the rooms is via an outdoor covered walkway within a charming little courtyard which was tidy, clean and brightly decorated with flowers in baskets.
After a late afternoon drink in the outdoor area of the bar we changed and seated ourselves outdoors again for dinner. The dinner menu was comprehensive with plenty of choice. Neither myself nor my partner could fault the food in any way. The portion sizes were also very generous. Special mention must go to the young waitresses who were so attentive and efficient in serving the meals and drinks. After a comfortable night's sleep we returned to the outside area where we had a delicious breakfast served piping hot and with the same efficiency as dinner. We followed our breakfast with a stroll along the Riverside before leisurely packing up and checking out. I have to say the hotel provided us with a very good value stay as the bill on checkout even with our evening drinks and bottle of wine to accompany our dinner, was less than I was expecting. Drinks are reasonably priced at this hotel, which is refreshing to see as so many hotels rip people off at the bar these days.
For people looking for a more active stay, golf and fishing is available at or near the hotel and for dog owners, the hotel even caters for them, having dog friendly rooms and providing bowls of water for them in the outside area.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Brown Trout and will definitely be back. The welcoming and friendly nature of all the staff was lovely and added to our enjoyment while we were there.

My wife and I enjoyed a 1 night B&B and dinner package with another couple staying in 2 of the courtyard rooms. Check in was quick and efficient leaving us time to enjoy a few drinks in the outdoor seating area before dinner. It is waiter service only due to the Covid restrictions but there were plenty of staff to cater for the large number of guests. The dinner menu was very good and the food at dinner and breakfast was superb. The room itself was spotless and all staff members we encountered were very helpful and courteous and no request was too much trouble. We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay at the Brown Trout and have no hesitation i recommending this hotel. We certainly hope to visit again as the hotel is dog friendly and many guests were there with their four legged friends and we intend to take our wee man with us next time!

This is a hidden gem, a delightful place to eat, drink and stay with the bonus of being dog friendly. The small snug with a blazing open fire and the charming bar area with the log burner and tiled floor were our favourite places to sit although there are other rooms and spaces (some exclusively non-dog) which looked very inviting also.
The rooms are set around a small courtyard area and ours was totally spotless with no traces of previous doggy occupants - spacious, plenty of wardrobe space, 2 large double beds and a fabulous bathroom with bath and proper walk-in shower.
Being on a golf course there are beautiful outdoor walks but the amazing Portstewart Strand is a short drive away with Coleraine, Portrush, Ballycastle, Londonderry and more all within reach. Food was great and staff were faultless, everyone friendly polite attentive and happy to chat, we also had great craic with other guests, locals and golfers.
Thanks to Jane our main host who really went out of her way to make everything super enjoyable, I'd say we will be back without doubt.

Came here for a meal to catch up with a friend, first time ever visiting. The pace was well spaced out, sanitising areas and attentive staff. My steak was cooked to perfection! Can't believe I've never been to this hidden gem before 😍

We would like to congratulate the owner and staff of the "brown trout" for a very enjoyable "lockdown ending" nights stay in one of their luxurious cottages.
The covid precautions Bill and Jane have introduced are both reassuring and unobtrusive and do not detract from the warm and welcoming atmosphere so evident from all members of staff and the "trout's" environment.
We enjoyed an excellent evening meal, a hearty breakfast and a very comfortable nights sleep.
Although, the weather was not at its best, we did enjoy a pleasant stroll in their extensive grounds through their nine hole golf course.
The "chefs" garden was a particular delight and the beer garden extension is an attractive and practical addition to their facilities.
We will be back!

All of the staff are so friendly and down to earth, the food is always top notch and the chef from Bangor always says hello and makes an effort to chat to us and the doggy. We had breakfast and dinner in the hotel all of the 3 days we stayed and it was all first class. First time staying in the hotel rooms as opposed to the cottages and we were impressed, very clean and modern. Love that it is dog friendly. Drinks in the bar reasonably priced, lovely walks around the golf course along the river are enjoyable. Was a shame we couldn't have a drink indoors at the fireplace due to Covid but thankfully the weather stayed dry enough to enjoy drinks in the beer garden.

Excellent is the only word for the Brown Trout. The accommodation as two double beds in the room that are very spacious. The bathroom is big also that contains a bath and a walk in shower for the disabled.

All the staff are friendly the food is good plus when you first go to the restaurant you are served with the same waitress for the length of your stay.

Ours was cut short because of Covid-19 because the government brought in New restrictions saying restaurant's and hotels had to close at 6.00pm on the Friday.
As we had only stayed one night out of three I was not charged for our accommodation only the evening meal we had.

The evening of our meal Jane came around the tables to keep us informed if they were going to have to close
The Brown Trout also rents out cottages for self catering.

I would recommend the Brown Trout to anyone for an evening meal or a longer stay.

The Brown Trout restaurant is one of our favourites as we always get great food and service. Although a little nervous to dine out again post lockdown we were immediately reassured as we had a socially distanced booth separated by a great half panelled wall with a glass top which meant that you also didn’t feel boxed in.
The food and service as usual were top notch. We booked in advance.
Thankyou Brown Trout team. Xx

We just had to return after out last visit as we enjoyed ourselves so much. I had emailed the hotel my cv and achievement breakdown prior to my arrival as to avoid any problems which in hindsight I didn't need to as the staff recognised me and treated me according. They all used big words and some obscure marketing and business terminology even I didn't know lol. Very impressed with this.
I immediately proceeded to the bar to view the selection of drinks. I ordered a few Guinness to be brought to my room , studied the pouring technique of the barman and the tray handling skills of the waiter which were all to my satisfaction. I inspected the cutlery on my way past which was of adequate sharpness ( could have been sharper) and tested the chairs and tables thst they were all stable and not wobbly.
I entered my room and read the A4 page . It was like a big hug it was so welcoming. As my dog ate its treat and drink its chilled water I glugged down my Guinness and watched the perfectly positioned TV and enjoyed the cool waft of the state of the art air conditioning. Cutlery sharpness is a big thing for me and although it wasn't perfect it was adequate enough not to ruin the whole stay. The gammon for dinner was juicy and succulent, baby potatoes were soft , fluffy and in the perfect amount of garlic butter. The lasagne was like it was made by gino de campo , totally authentic and of a high standard.
As I sat on the freshly painted garden furniture, watching my dog enjoy the gravel surface I dawned my hat I bought at the belfast Christmas market , opened my packet of marshmallows my mind drifted to my happy place (local supply chains) and I thought to myself "I forgot to check the carpet for wornness ". Il check it after I finish my paellla.

Great stay yet again.

We were there over the new year period. You would need to contact the Brown Trout. I do know that some locals attend at weekends.
