Stayed here for four nights and found this to be an excellent choice - we know the area well as we have family living in Thun and this is a good base to enjoy the town and overall area. The hotel is exceptionally clean and the rooms are spacious and modern - no tea or coffee making in the room but there is a good coffee machine on the first floor landing with a fridge with canned drink and bottled water you can help yourself to as well as a fruit basket - a lovely touch. Breakfast was very good with a selection of fresh breads, cheeses and cold meats as well as fresh fruit, cereals etc and the waitress makes fresh boiled eggs on request. The hotel has a spacious free car park which is a plus as parking in Thun can be expensive. Very friendly owners that provide a welcome pack with a discount card that includes free bus travel locally so you can park the car up in the hotel and go into town for the evening. Would suggest a room at the rear in summer, you wont get the lake view but it could have some traffic noise if you left your windows open. Three small supermarkets within a couple of minutes walk and the lake is only a few minutes away on foot and there is a pick up point for the boat service around Thun lake.

There’s many reasons why we loved our stay at the chartreuse. Hünibach is a picturesque small village right around the corner from Thun. A beautiful lakeside promenade as well as the mystical Cholerenschlucht lie within walking distance to the Chartreuse. This alone would make a stay worthwile.
If you like Italian food and wine, read no more: just try it out, you won’t be disappointed. Not convinced yet? Well, the minimalistic concept of the rooms along with an extremely comfy bed are certainly a plus. People who work there are happy and welcoming. The owner Pascal (the one we’ve met) cooks, talks to the guests, explains why their jam is fantastic, recommends other places, remembers birthdays and most importantly helps with the dishes. It’s been a whike since I’ve seen anyone in that position do so. This place is humble and this is why, we’ll definitely come back. Grazie mille.

What a nice place near Thun! We've been in this cosy hotel during the Pentecost long weekend. The rooms are spacious, super clear, minimal in design, but with all what you need and recently renovated. I loved the style and the research in the objects and furnishings. Good breakfast included in the rate. The hotel is not in Thun, but you can have a pleasant 20 min panoramic walk close to the lake to reach the city. The staff was friendly. In conclusion, I would definitely recommend this place to anyone!

The hotel is in a good spot on the main road near Lake Thun, which makes it easy to find and reach, with good public transport links. It doesn't take long to catch the 21 or 25 bus into Thun, or indeed head toward Interlaken. It is about a 25 minute fast walk into Thun along the lakeside path, which is lovely.

As a guest, you are also entitled to a Panorama Card, which the lovely reception staff will present to you, for the duration of your stay. This has quite a few useful features, such as free bus transport, discounts at local attractions and businesses and so on. In Switzerland, especially tourist areas like Thun where everything costs a LOT of money, this will be invaluable to anyone who hasn't won the Euro Millions!

The first disappointment was that the restaurant is currently not in use, except to provide a mostly cold breakfast. You can boil your own eggs in a cute little dedicated egg boiler and make your own toast, and the lovely staff will provide coffee or tea to your heart's content, but that's about it. The rest is cold pork meats, cheeses, lovely bread and croissants, fruits, yoghurts, cornflakes, sugar puffs and jam. Whether they ever have done omelettes, waffles, pancakes, or tried their hand at a Full English Breakfast - or will do - I have no idea. But something along those lines will be necessary for the winter season, and to justify the price of the stay.

Without the restaurant - and I cannot at all be sure whether the prices there would have been any more palatable than they were elsewhere - eating out for two meals every day is extremely expensive in Thun and the surrounding area, which made it quite stressful. Our Swiss friends said that the restaurant had been a much sought-after venue at least for them in the past, so I hope that when it reopens later this year it is a reasonably priced and tasty menu that they offer.

We stayed in room 16, which is on the first floor, in the corner nearest both roads above the restaurant. It was a large room, clean, tidy and had a handy little shower and toilet room adjoining. However, while the main room had net curtains for privacy, the bathroom did not, which seemed odd. It doesn't even have privacy glass in the window, where privacy is most necessary. The shower cubicle doors kept jumping out of their gliders which is not helpful when you are trying to get a shower. You have to unplug the towel heater rail if you want to use the hairdrier provided in the bathroom.

The furniture in the room was mostly serviceable, but it was not particularly good quality. With only four hangers in the small wardrobe in a room for two people, it was not exactly well equipped. Also, the "double" bed is actually two singles pushed together. They had sharp corners - I have bruises to match - and the beds are supposed to raise at the head end. It looked as though they should have three available positions, but the brackets were not screwed in very well, didn't look too strong, and only worked at one setting after much jiggling to try to get them to stay up. There were no headboards on the beds, which would have made them more comfortable. I have never stayed at any hotel - cheap or otherwise - with no headboards.

The floors are laminate, and room 16 is not flush with the outside corridor, causing a bit of a trip hazard in the doorway. Also, with no rugs in the room there is a lot of echoing foot traffic noise from rooms above or next door. We were quite conscious of how much noise we must be making, and tried to keep it to a minimum, but it is not easy.

The only lighting in the room was provided either by a tall standard lamp or by a small bedside lamp. This bedside lamp was an absolute hazard because the hood of the lamp is metal and becomes excessively hot with even a little use. We had to move it around on one of the bedside tables to more adequately light the room after dark. Worse, there were very few handy power sockets near the bed, and of course Switzerland has different sockets to either UK or EU types. We had an adaptor, but it didn't fit in all the sockets.

The lack of sockets meant that one could either use the bedside light, or set up the alarm clock provided near the bed, but not both. To swap over from one to the other if the bedside tables were to be used at the bedside, you have to pull one bed away from the wall and swap the plugs over in the socket behind the bed. Then rearrange the bed in the dark. Not very practical. However, the curtains were not great at blocking out the street lighting from outside, so the room does not actually get completely dark. The windows don't keep out much road noise either.

Most guests will now come to hotels with at least a mobile phone apiece, if not a laptop computer or tablet. These will all need charging at some point. When even using the lighting involves moving the furniture, charging other devices becomes a farce. Fortunately our phones have alarms in them so we could avoid using that particular device, and we can also charge them in the car.

I know that it is a peculiar habit to the UK, but the lack of a kettle in the room (with complementary sachets to make a cup of tea or instant coffee) when the restaurant is out of action is particularly noticeable here. If even the cheapest of cheap hotels can do it in the UK, there is no real reason why a rather expensive one in Switzerland cannot.

The staff were lovely and helpful, especially Pascal and Karin. The cleaner needs a bit of an education in hotel etiquette, though. Every morning except on Sunday at six thirty, she would start hoovering the foyer rather forcefully, moving the furniture around loudly. It must have been audible in every single guest room. In the end, I had to explain that it was too much and asked her to please close the fire door at the top of the stairs to mitigate the noise. Guests are on holiday - they want a rest, not a dawn chorus of vacuum cleaner and tortured furniture. She was apologetic, but why has this not been dealt with before? It cannot have gone unnoticed for long.

For well over £100 per night for bed and breakfast, this was overpriced. The room we stayed in needed quality furniture, some rugs, proper lighting, better electrical sockets, a new bedside lamp that doesn't burn you, better curtains, nets in the bathroom window, and for the restaurant to be open, and a cheap and hearty place to eat. This room in the UK (or indeed most of the places we have stayed in central Europe) would have commanded at most I would reckon about £45/€60 per night. This gives some idea of the scale of the costs of staying in Switzerland.

The room and the price let the staff down. They were so nice that we really couldn't face having to point out just how far this hotel did not match up to their expectation of its value. I almost wondered whether that particular room was an afterthought, or had been hastily repurposed, given how basic it was.

We stayed here for close to a week and had a perfect time. The room was very nice, as was the bathroom and the free coffee, water and soft drinks are a real bonus. We stayed on the top floor and it maybe gets a little warm during summer since there is no airco but that's the only thing we can think of which might need attention.

We also tried the restaurant the first evening and we decided to eat here the rest of the week. We've never done that before, but the great quality of the food and delicious Italian wines are too good to be missed and at very compatative prices!

Last but by far not least is the wonderfull staff, everybody makes you feel welcome.

The Hotel is situated just outside Thun. The staff is friendly and helpful , the breakfast is very nice but the room is really basic . It is functional but really basic . The bed also is not the most comfortable I have ever slept on . So if they could improve that it would be a much better experience .

I've never stayed in a hotel with such wonderful, personal and homely service. This hotel is really well located close to the lake with easy walking or bus access to the town centre. The food was great and the service impeccable. Highly recommended

What a great find - a beautifully appointed boutique hotel atop an Italian Osteria with al fresco dining. Situated 3 mins walk from the lake complete with bathing area, kiosk and ferry stop, this hotel is 5 mins by free bus for hotel guests to town, or a leisurely 25 minute stroll along the lakeside. There are grocery shops, pharmacy, boulangerie, charcuterie and wine store in the little village of Hunibach and the restaurant in the hotel is an absolute must - reasonably price delicious Italian fare. We stayed for 7 nights and recommend this hotel to one and all. We sincerely hope to visit this picturesque area again soon and will absolutely stay at the Chartreuse when we do.
