Take your pick from four spacious eco studio cottages, all offering privacy, one the edge of 9ha of QEII protected native bush. There is even your very own natural private bush walks right outside your front door. Kahu is our premier cottage, with its own luxurious spa pool, so you can lie enveloped in bubbles whilst star gazing at the clear night sky, no light pollution here! Each cottage has incredible views overlooking lush rolling farmland and the stunning bush of the Morris Saddle. In summer you can see the amazing red flowers of the native Southern Rata trees, blazing profusely from the other side of the valley. Relax on your own private deck and listen to the native birds serenade you, and in the background the sound of the Catlins River, as it winds its way to the sea. Self-cater with a fully equipped kitchen or book a catered stay, at least 7 days before your arrival, with continental breakfast and/or a BBQ pack (cook your own on the provided BBQ), at an additional cost.

If you want serene tranquillity this is the place. Set in 8 hectares of protected ancient forest, on an unsealed road 7 kilometres from the highway, this is glorious accommodation. The comfortable and well-equipped cabin overlooked beautiful rolling farmland. With no neighbours, no TV, there is just the sound of the trees, birds and sheep. There are 4 kilometres of woodland tracks within Mohua Park. A more challenging walk along the Catlins River is nearby and there are plenty of well signposted places to visit off the Southern Scenic Route. The hosts were very welcoming and have put great effort into making everything eco-friendly. A perfect location!

Nice and peaceful place. The cottages are clean and fully equipped with a kitchen. We had been four and for a cottage it was rather small for four. However, the hosts took care to make the stay as comfortable as possible. This place definitly provides high value for money. The location is very central to visit different destinations like Nugget Point, Curio Bay and Slope Point.

Catlins Mohua Park is not located on the main route, with all the traffic and the noise. You have to divert from the main road onto a dirt track for about 7 kms, which is quite passable. But you are then rewarded to arrive in a secluded place with very nice and comfortable units, with all the trimmings one would wish and lovely views over a wide sheep farm and hills. And particularly for the peace and quite one longs for in this busy world. The only sound is from the many sheep.
Do you get a 5 course dinner?? No, you ask for a BBQ pack to be delivered to your unit. It will be waiting for you to cook your own dinner on the provided barbeque. The food provided is very ample and of excellent quality. We enjoyed a beautiful steak and all the other food provided. Only one comment about it: it will be far more than one can stomach.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

We stayed in the Kararea cottage for a night on our Catlins trip and it was fantastic. Modern and warm with a beautiful view across farmland, whilst tucked into native bush making it very quiet and private. This particular cottage has a king bed and two singles, making it suitable for families. The extra touches like nice toiletries and a coffee machine give it the quality edge, and the board games to keep the kids entertained were appreciated. We also did a lovely walk on the property. Highly recommended.

The cabin is super spacious, even if filled by 4 adults, and the location is at once remote and accessible enough to make it perfect either for a quick stop as you are traveling in the area or for an extended stay. The kitchen is fully kitted, including an electric oven, and the beds were VERY comfortable. Heating for those colder days in winter seemed more than enough too. All in all, 5 stars, and although we couldn't explore the nearby bush it did seem worth a walk.

My husband and I are of that age where when we travel we are looking for luxury and intimate experiences (aka VIP) and we found it all here. The cottage was lovely and contained everything we needed. The property is extensive and has wonderful bush walks and amazing bird life. It was peaceful and private. Water pressure is a bit on the low side, but the beds are super comfy so that's a good trade off. We went on two of the tours offered and they were both excellent. Lyndon was a great guide full of local knowledge with a good sense of humor -and happy to go at our pace. We also enjoyed the antipasto platter on the night we arrived and were pleasantly surprised by the variety and amount (it lasted us for days). The location was a perfect spot to act as our base for exploring the Catlins area over the 5 days we had as it is basically int he middle of it all. We will definitely be back.

I spent a night here with my parents just after Boxing Day. Driving in it feels like yo ugh are driving towards Milford sound with the orange bark on the trees and the tree canopy’s that meet, we stayed in Karearea cottage, comfortable, nice layout, overlooks farmland with sheep, very kiwi, very serene, nice little bbq to cook on, all eco products provided, as it is an eco destination no heated towel rails but there were electric blankets, a heat pump in the room and a heater in the bathroom.

The only things we found to need improvement was that sofa in this unit has seen better days and unfortunately when you sit down you feel the spine of the sofa as the cushion is worn and the picture frames in the wall of the main bed are hung very low as are the fixed reading lights, as there is no headboard - if you choose to read in bed then your head is on the picture frame and the low fixed reading lights mean that heat and bright light are at your temples.

There is no television however lots of board games are provided, there is reliable wifi so bring your laptop for movie night.

We did not feel one night here was enough to properly explore and appreciate the grounds and walking tracks.

We really liked how homely the units were whilst also being modern and clean.

Our cottage had room to sleep 4. A main king bed then a small part wall had two single beds top to tail, a really clever configuration for people travelling together.

We would definitely stay again.

We wanted the peacefulness of the Catlins in comfort. We were not disappointed. The views were captivating. Lovely walks very close by. Facilities in the apartment were good -although not very much room for preparing meals which would involve several stages of preparation. Very functional BBQ. Good slider onto deck and seating from which to soak in nature. Car parked below so unloading and loading was easy. Bed A1 comfortable. Host very friendly and helpful. Business is up for sale but likely as going concern. Would stay here again when visiting the Catlins.

We enjoyed two nights in a cottage at this beautiful park. The view of the rolling hills and bush, along with the sheep is amazing. We were completely private and it was so peaceful and the only sounds we heard were the birds!!
There was everything we needed, the cottage was very clean and warm along with a very comfy bed. As it was a Christmas present from our family we enjoyed two BBQ packs along with breakfasts, and a platter which we enjoyed for lunch. The food was beautiful and very tasty and the platter had so much variety.
We enjoyed some of the bush track walks and also walked down to Tawanui to the old sawmill site which was most interesting.
Thank you Gill and Lyndon for a wonderful stay.

The Catlins are a place of remote beauty and the Mohua eco resort is remote within that. The silence at night is bliss, stars bright in a black sky, green lush fields unfold before you. Good WiFi in the cottages, which is rare in the area and most wonderfully, a warm, generous invitation to a fabulous hangi onsite and the company of lovely locals. We enjoyed it very much. Make sure you take the ATV tour, it runs through stunning private land that you'd never see otherwise. Cottages are compact but carefully appointed. The kitchen area is pretty small but has all the essential equipment we needed.
