My husband and I choose to stay local from nearby Nelson for our 25th wedding anniversary. We were greeted by the friendly hosts with beautiful canapés and a welcome drink that we enjoyed on the expansive deck over looking the ocean. Our room was cosy and lush and the overall environment of the lodge was very welcoming and peaceful. The spa and cedar sauna were extra treats. The fresh, generous and wholesome breakfast was a highlight. You feel very well looked after and catered to at Split Apple Lodge. Nothing was too much trouble and the setting is absolutely stunning. Enjoy!

We stayed 3 nights at this wonderful place in the hills above Split Apple Rock beach and had a pefect time. The nice apartment, decorated in a modern style was very quiet. Guests can use the pool with a gorgeous scenic view as well as Spa and Sauna. Massage can be booked onsite. The breakfast was perfect, fitting into the overall eco concept of the lodge by serving local and home grown (i.e. eggs from their own chicken) products. A spacious breakfast/living room with wonderful view to the mountains on one side and the sea to the other side provides a space for relaxation, reading or meeting other guests. The lodge is in short driving distance (5 - 20 min) to lots of activities like fantastic beaches, hiking or canooing. We loved this place and had a great time. Thanks a lot. Best regards Michaela, Gerd, Nick and Marc.

This oasis is a beautiful accommodation in a spectacular setting. If you love a clean, minimal, natural aesthetic, this is your spot. Everything is done with the highest regard to quality. There is a personal touch added to every encounter. The breakfast was the best of our two weeks in the country. The sunrise and sunset breathtaking from this location. You will love coming back to this spot after an active day of kayaking, hiking or exploring Abel Tasman National Park. Enjoy!

A beautiful spot to stay when visiting Abel Tasman. We enjoyed the room, an hour in the lovely hot tub each night, and an impressive breakfast/hors d'oeuvres on arrival. The only inconvenience we ran into was that there is only the smallest pitcher of water available to guests in the lobby, which was empty when we returned one night after the staff left, and unfortunately led to a scramble to the only open grocery store a 30-minute drive away to get some hydration.

We spent three nights at Split Apple Lodge. The lodge undoubtedly scores with its location, views, tasteful while minimalist interior design, the spacious communal lounge and the large communal terrace plus pool/spa facilities. We enjoyed the afternoon tea when returning from our excursions, sipping a glass of wine in the evening (regrettably on a BYO basis only as they do not have a license) and chatting with other guests at the long breakfast table. The breakfast (continental style) with fresh fruit and muesli, "real" bread, cheese, salmon, smoothies and more was perfect and a much appreciated break from the standard "eggs any style". You help yourself at the buffet while being served coffee and tea at the table. The staff was lovely, gave us all lodge information required and assisted us with dinner reservations. They even offered us to heat the outdoor tub... Our sea view room had a spacious private terrace. The walls were not really soundproof (we could hear the neighbours talk) but nights were quiet. The bathroom had a new walk-in shower and a wall heating for the chilly mornings but we missed some more vanity space for our toiletries. There was not much room for clothes (just a rail) but when traveling a lot you get used to this "feature" that many modern hotels have in common and you learn to live out of your suitcase. The bed had a comfortable mattress but regrettably was too narrow for top sleeping quality. All in all a positive experience with one "flaw": As I said the staff was nice and well-trained but we missed some "warmth". We never met the owners until coming back from a day trip on our last evening. A short hello and "Is everything alright?" and that was it. Not quite typical for a small lodge... But even this was made up by "Pepper", the owners' dog, who loved jumping quickly from one terrace to the next when noone was outside and was so happy to play fetch - making us feel happy, too.

Dear Anita, Thank you so much for your review and your valued feedback. We have added to the family and welcomed a baby on February 6th. This may explain why we weren't around much at the time of your stay, as I was just released from hospital a few days before. My apologies if you missed the owner attention you deserved, I hope you understand. We'll look into the bathroom vanity space to improve this, thanks for mentioning it, it is appreciated. I am glad you have enjoyed your stay! Fran
