This is really a beautiful camp ground. Located within walking distance from the beach, in the middle of the dunes and direct access to the National Park Kennemerduinen. The spots are reasonably sized and all have some view on the dunes surrounding the camp ground.

The toilets and showers are good. Some of the buildings are a bit older, but nicely renovated. There is a good shop on the camp ground, that has everything you need. For children there are a couple of small playgrounds as well as one larger one that must be one of the coolest playgrounds I've seen. On top of that, there is a bike rental, a restaurant, sauna and gym. During peak season, there are additional services, like surfing school, massage, yoga lessons.

We have stayed at De Lakens in three differnent years. great site with plenty of pitch and other camping options. Supermarket and restaurant on site. Walking access to the beach. Great cycling in the National Park next door. A great pancake house De Hemelse is 3 miles cycle away. Cycle to Zandvoort seaside town. Bus outside campsite to Harlem, train from Harlem to Amsterdam in about 20 mins. This site offers a great base for a holiday that be be beach/relax or city/shop/sightseeing break. The beach does have bars but we have never found them to be noisy or rowdy I guess you can check dates to see if any major festivals are on.
It's also only 2 hours drive from the Hook and we've stayed in Utrecht, Hoenderloo and found driving around the Netherlands straightforward.
This site is clean, lots of shows blocks, worth checking out the website for the map..don't be put off by the size/scale of the site it doesn't feel busy/crowded even when
it is as the pitches/Duin make them private.
We will be back

We visited De Lakens mid summer this year and we were pleasantly surprised by the options: you can spend the night in your own tent/caravan, or rent fully equipped mobile homes.

The prices are quite high, but a parking spot and a tent were a good deal. We ended up on the far side of the camping. Cheap, but some 25 minutes on foot to the entrance. It took a bit longer at night due to missing signs, making us wander around the camping a bit longer than needed.. in the pouring rain.

The wind blew away the tent in the morning, it was amazing to search for ID cards and clothing in the dunes, really! This isn't something the camping itself can influence, but it surely added something to our stay experience.

The cold water in the showers laid the finishing touch to our stay, and we switched to a hotel the night after.

Yet, we have to give our thumbs up to De Lakens, as it was a one-of-a-kind experience we'll never forget! :)

If you like a sand, sea and surfing holiday then this is a great campsite. It is also near to the Zandvoort Race Track and has a good public transport links especially for getting to Amsterdam and offers some great cycling experiences. There is a large onsite Supermarket, Restaurant and Bar which are all very good. They also show outdoor films in the high season and it has a great Adventure Playground for the children.

Unfortunately the down side is that as it's so near to the North Sea it is very windy. If like us you have a large tent you may be disappointed as the pitches are very small and lack privacy. The reason for the 3 stars is that this is not a cheap campsite and our tent blew down in the high winds as it is so sandy the tent pegs don't anchor well. We had to pack up and check into a hotel. The campsite weren't very sympathetic and could not offer a partial refund for the days we weren't able to camp (we were able to claim back the tourist tax)

I feel that this campsite is best suited for Caravans and Motor Momes and I would not recommend it for a long camping stay (2 weeks) but only for a few days. We will not be going back.

Thank you very much for your compliments about our Campsite. We are sorry to hear that our North Sea breeze litterly blowed you away. Unfortanatly nature is nothing we can do about and wind is something we have to deal with the whole season. Especially because we are so close to the sea. Maybe if you change your mind we would like to search together for a great spot on our campsite for your tent. Regards, Team de Lakens

All the good points are covered elsewhere but there are a few points no one mentions.
1. The site is generally quiet with tent party areas off on the edges where young folk seem to gather, probably attracted by
2. The numerous nightclubs just along the beach. Yes, this is the Netherlands answer to Ibiza. Fine if you want to party, but you can hear the bass from your tent.
3. There is also a motor cross? track, they kick off at 8 am on race days.
4. The flight path for Schipol is overhead, flights start around 6?

So although the site itself is almost deathly quiet at night (tent folk on the edges cannot be heard from the main site) and in the morning the external sound can be substantial.

Facilities great and numerous and site stylish.. Pitches, as per usual kinda close up and personal. We had a Dunespot and it was good, but not great (and not like the pics but maybe we got a bad one). Good restaurant, take away pizza, playgrounds etc etc.

Great cycling around the dunes, go north to the cafe on the beach (name begins with a p) for a lovely spot. Easy to Amsterdam, we cycled to Zandvoort and got one of the frequent trains there in less than half an hour (12 euro rtn). The young party folk do hang out on the nearby beach at night, so do not expect a quiet contemplation of the sea.....partic as night clubs 100m down the beach.

We enjoyed our stay, but be prepared for a bit of noise!

We camped here in the sands for 1 week and although it would have been idillic as it is so peaceful and pretty. The storms were so bad we couldn't cook inside or outside of the tent as the winds were whipping the sand everywhere.Would highly recommend it as a campsite but choose your pitch wisely and check for winds it really did spoil our stay.

Check out one of the best camping places in this area! The staff are very friendly & supportive, multilingual and the program during the season is varied. Supermarket & restaurant are well prepared and the washroom´s / toilets are incredible clean. The National Park & a wide range of activities promise a relaxing, interesting stay

We have enjoyed staying at Camping De Lakens for over 20 years but we are now very disappointed to find that, due to a very unreasonable cancellation policy.
Virtually all the money paid for reserving a pitch is greedily kept by the company.
Due to unforeseen family illness we were forced to reluctantly cancel our booking this year(2018) Despite having made an advance payment if 142 euros, we have now been instructed to make a further payment of 72.90 to settle the account! The campsite has plenty of time to re-let the pitch to someone else. No future credit for re-booking has been offered to us.
As a result of this we would not recommend visits to this campsite to anyone in future.

We spent a pleasant six days at De Lakens and on the whole it was a good choice for a base from which to explore the wider environs. Although there were hundreds of other tents and vans, the layout in the Dunespot meant that that we felt that we were only connected to five or six nearby campers. The electricity and water supply was convenient, the ablutions were clean and accessible, the local Spar was well stocked and not expensive, the laundry room contained washing machines and driers. The campsite offered excellent access to the beach, to numerous cycle routes, and to the main trunk road to Haarlem and to Zandvoort. Our car didn't move from the day we arrived until it was time to pack up. Instead we walked or cycled and felt all the better for this.

There were a few negatives that are worth mentioning. Others have commented that the camp restaurant is overpriced, so we were expecting this. What proved more irritating was that the portions of meat seemed ridiculously small compared with what is on offer elsewhere. On the first night that we arrived, there was a noisy beach party that went on until about midnight. Thankfully, the rest of our stay was quieter, up until our final night when there was again a noisy beach party, but on this occasion the strong winds helped to mask the music.

So on balance a good campsite with great facilities. But if you like to get to sleep at the weekends, you might want to request a camping spot far from the beach.
