We spent 6 days here in July and had a wonderful time both at Le Clos des Rosiers and Fouras. It was our 2nd visit to Fouras and it was just as lovely the 2nd time round - a very gentle town with plenty of good shops and beaches and a good centre for exploring the area. If you plan to stay at Le Clos do have a look on Google maps as it's quite easy to miss the entrance. If you are expecting 5* facilities this is not for you but if you want a 5* welcome in a truly French house with wonderful breakfasts, then I guarantee you will love it

I picked Le Clos des Rosiers because it had such good reviews on TripAdvisor and was very pleased with the choice. It is everything that the other reviews say, a friendly, relaxing pleasant place to stay. Madam Chognot made us very welcome. We told Madam Chognot our expected arrival time and she showed us where to park and how to lock the gates so that the goats didn’t escape and then showed us around and introduced us to her friendly dog. There are chickens (who lay the eggs for your breakfast) and a lovely large garden with lots of places to sit and a swimming pool (above ground) which was very welcome as it was very warm when we arrived. There is a fridge in the garden containing cold drinks with an honesty box for payment which makes you feel at home. If the weather is good breakfast is eaten in the garden, otherwise in a pleasant room indoors. It was an excellent breakfast and much care had been taken to provide fresh ingredients. There was fresh fruit (different each day), boiled eggs, homemade fruit juice and jam, yogurt, cheese and ham and a lovely selection of bread and croissants which changed each day. Everywhere is nicely decorated with lovely plants and mementos of the sea, it’s a large house so the B&B part has its own entrance so you can come and go as you please using your key. The bedroom was in the attic, very clean and a comfortable bed. Nicely decorated with everything that you could want including a kettle, coffee and tea. There was a bottle of water which was a nice touch. Downstairs was a sitting room for the evening with games, a fridge with local drinks which Madam gave us to try (a friendly touch). Madam recommended a couple of restaurants in Fouras, we tried ‘Ti Sable’ which was excellent but you need to get there early and it soon fills up. Fouras was a lovely place almost surrounded by the sea, the tide goes out for miles and you can walk out and watch the locals collecting the oysters and other seafood. We were lucky enough to be in Fouras for Bastille Day and there were lots of celebrations ending in fireworks, with images projected onto the castle from the beach, everyone was out on the beach with their picnics, a lovely evening. We stayed in Fouras for three nights, there was plenty to see in the area and lots of places to eat, I would highly recommend staying in Le Clos des Rosiers as it was such a friendly pleasant experience.

this is an exceptional b&b in fouras, close to rochefort. fouras is a seaside resort with all the advantages and disadvantages that that implies, but out of season, when we went, it is quiet and perfect for a short break. the clos des rosiers is convenient (5 minutes walk) to the town centre, with 3 beautifully furnished rooms (artistically decorated) which are a bit small but very comfortable and have a separate entrance to the rest of the property, and so are quite private. there is a communal lounge, with a fire for winter, and an enormous garden with a small swimming pool. breakfast was exceptionally good, with eggs from the hens running around outside. very friendly reception from mme chognot, the landlady, who will let you feed the goats if you ask nicely. there are numerous restaurants in town (within walking distance), and a daily fish market where you can buy fresh oysters from the ile d'oberon. the cafe opposite will supply a plate and fork for a couple of euros and you can eat them on the spot with a glass or two of wine. altogether a very pleasant experience.
