During my Gran Canaria trip late August (more about this in my recent review Hotel La Aldea Suites, La Aldea De San Nicolás, Gran Canaria - "A charming, highly recommended family affair in an authentic pueblo") I absolutely wanted to discover the spectacular Bandama crater in Santa Brigida from top to bottom [(and hopefully also back =;°)] and the Bandama Golf Hotel seemed to be the right place to start my hike from, not at least because the hotel's website pictured an enchanting and luxurious oasis almost hanging on the edge of the volcano.

To find this hotel is not an easy excursion, not even with the GPS switched on because when the audio informed me that I had reached my destination I was still a few miles away from it and if it had not been for a local couple who were so kind as to guide me in person to the hotel (I only had to follow their car) I would have had to explore more than just one dirt road that late afternoon... On second thought a very positive element for tranquillity seekers since it means the place is off the beaten tracks.

Upon arrival I was immediately blown away by the stunning scenery. The golf course seemed to float in the air, its green blending with the orange of the setting sun, while the white building looked as if it was hesitating to slide into the void of the crater. Sheer beauty! Appreciating the outside of the hotel, its mesmerizing surroundings, the golf ambience, and, remembering the pictures on the hotel's website, I had strong hopes to enter a residence with a fairly decent portion of English ambience and tradition but sadly enough dull and pragmatic were the first words that sprang to my mind although the staff was friendly and helpful.

For 60 Euro I had expected a room as shown on the hotel's website. Nicer: the outside was fine since the terrace neatly slides into the lustrous green of the golf course but the furniture is worn-out and the walls could do with some new paint. Fresher: there was a rather disturbing scent in the air as if a spray had been used to mask an even more unpleasant smell. More comfortable: a better bed to say the least. Cleaner: the bathroom was not exactly spic and span (side remark: the hotel advertises to offer a range of free Rituals toiletries but all I received were 2 tiny bars of the same soap) and certainly a healthier, more contemporary breakfast.

In short: if you are not a golfer, this hotel is all about location, with the entrance to the Bandama crater only a 5 minutes' walk away.

Dear Mr Van den Langenbergh, First of all, we would like to thank you for sharing your experience after your stay in our hotel. We remember the day you came thanks to the help of that couple. Is was a rainy day and we understand that if the GPS doesn't have the right informtaion, it can be a stressfully experience. We apologize for the inconveniences caused to you. Regarding your comments about the room, we would like to inform you that the hotel was in 2014 renovated. We have tried to keep the ambience as when it was built in 1960, but with the today's infrastructure like new heating installations, wood floor or the chimney. Regarding the forniture and the walls paint, we would like to inform you that during the low season we have made some improvements. On the other hand, we have made a note about the spay, amenities in the bathroom and the breakfast. We have already forwarded your comments to our team to take them in consideration for future improvement. We would like to welcome you back soon in Bandama Golf Hotel. Sonia del Rincón

Having read the reviews for this establishment, I have to say that the 'terrible' review of March 2009 was actually spot on and quite fair. The hotel is an afterthought to the golf clubhouse and is nothing more than a place to stay over if you are playing the course. It is NOT a suitable 'holiday' hotel. It is a 15-20 Euro one way cab ride to the local restaurant.

The caldera is undoubtedly beautiful, and the golf club gardens are very attractive. Less attractive, however, is the poor breakfast selection featuring bread, tired-looking fruit, an ancient coffee machine and omlettes cooked to order. The tablecloths were old and stained and as breakfast is taken in the clubhouse, there is an unpleasant smell about the place of sweaty plus fours, stale beer and cigarettes. If you are a golfer, and this is your thing, then you won't mind this. We were shown the daily menu of soup/salad, steak/chicken and ice cream for dessert in a grubby plastic sheath, and politely declined. If the dinner was anything like the breakfast, then I didn't want to waste money. Also, as mentioned above, the atmosphere for dining is not pleasant.

Our double room was basic - nothing more than the average budget travel lodge. Cheap pine bed, duvet, basic storage, painted walls, wall lights and one clip-framed picture of the golf club. No air con means that 38 degree heat at the top of the mountain made the atmosphere oppressive. Bathroom had basic fittings, 80's style wood cladding and golfball-themed toiletries.

Looking at the hotel's professional pictures on the Internet, I wonder where the bedroom pictures were taken as this is far from representative of our room. This could be misleading. I didn't see anything of the 'spa' treatments purported by the website, but I am assuming that these services are bought in. I assume the same of the leisure activities mentioned on the website, though I did see a chess set at the hotel. I saw no staff other than the receptionist who physically blocked our entry when we arrived, as she wasn't expecting any guests that day. She turned out to be quite helpful after 10 minutes of remonstrating with us and demanding to see our voucher. Not a good welcome.

The experience is like a trip back in time to your Dad's golf club in the early 1980's. I can only assume that it is the #1 romantic hotel in Santa Brigida because there are no other hotels in Santa Brigida? Any romance factor belongs to the gardens, caldera and golf course, not the hotel itself. It isn't romantic.

Dear guests, Thank you for taking the time to write a review of our hotel. We are located in a protected area, the Natural Monument of Bandama, a unique environment surrounded by nature at a mountain area. We are just 25 min. Away from Las Canteras Beach. It is an advantage for our guests to enjoy the peace and relax of our surroundings without the noise and smoke of the city. Yes, we are a golf hotel, but we also have guests who love nature, our environment, hiking, horses riding, even wellness and health treatments. Our hotel offer spa treatments (upon request), a Scandinavian Sauna and swimming pool. Golf is our hotel thematic, offering to our guest amenities in their room with golf topics. Our hotel has the luck to be located at few meters from the 1st. Tee of the Real Club de Golf de Las Palmas. Our renewal king size rooms are located on the reception level. We apologize that they were all fully booked on your arrival at the hotel. For that reason, we recommend to our clients to add their preferences or requests, as types of bed, etc. when they make their bookings to take it into consideration previously. My wife and I stayed here in February 2012 as part of a weeks golf package. We were a little apprehensive having read the "terrible" review of March 2009, but having now stayed here a couple of nights, I just wanted to say that review was very unfair and did not at all represent our own views or experience.

The road to the hotel is not tarmac but a track through a nature reserve right by the crater. The track is wider and a lot safer than it looks on Google Earth and has a safety barrier. It's also quite safe to drive at night.

We were warmly welcomed and shown to our room which was very clean and freshly decorated. The bathroom was also very clean with fresh towels and a decent shower. The views from our balcony across the golf course and to the mountains are lovely.

There is a free coffee machine in the hotel but meals are taken in the adjacent golf club restaurant or bar which is open all day for really nice fresh food and snacks with quite an extensive menu. Wines were also reasonably priced. Although in an adjacent building, the restaurant is about the same distance to walk as in many larger hotels
We were delayed an hour at the airport due to the large queue to collect our hire car but even so the club restaurant stayed open so we could have dinner.
The pool looked very clean and inviting although it was a bit cold for us oldies to use.
There is free wifi in the hotel rooms .
The golf course is quite a challenge with some tight fairways and fast greens.
Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Vic hotel and the staff were very kind, friendly and efficient. We would not hesitate to recommend this hotel and golf course to other golfing couples.

I stayed in this hotel for 5 nights in the beginning of July. I booked it because I was looking for a hotel a bit outside of the busy tourist places where I could relax.
The rooms are nice and it's well worth to book a room with a balcony because the views from the room are great. When I arrived I had a room at the ground floor which was nice, but the hotel owner offered me another room on the first floor after two nights without extra charge and the views were even better.
The personnel was wonderfull, always helpful, friendly and just genuinly nice people. The swimming pool was clean and not busy (although it was more busy on the Sunday when I arrived). The temperature of the water was fine. Also the room was clean and spacious.
It is recommended to rent a car because the area is quite remote although a saw a busstop at walking distance. With a car you are at the airport in just over 20 minutes and also Las Palmas is a 20 minutes drive.
There are two really good small restaurants very close, only about 600 meters walk which will take you about 10 minutes. You can check on google when they are open. Also walking distance but a bit further away (20 minutes walk) is a bodega where I had the best wine I had during my holiday and also a huge steak for a reasonable price. Breakfast was not a buffet (I guess because of covid-19), but you could fill in each day what you want for breakfast and it would be made fresh for you each morning.
I did not take any long walks although there are some walking paths into the caldera, it was just too hot when I was there to go for a long walk...
If I ever go back to Gran Canaria I will for sure book this hotel again!

Just back from our 1st visit to Bandama Golf Hotel. Just a short drive from the airport, arrived mid afternoon & went to straight on the course , & we were well impressed! The course was beautifully manicured, but rather challenging to say the least! The hotel is small but very friendly. All the staff, especially the receptionists couldn't have been more accommodating. Nothing was too much trouble. We stayed on a Bed & Breakfast which I would certainly recommend as opposed to Half Board as there are a plenty of excellent restaurants within a short drive/taxi ride. The rooms are very clean & spacious with lovely views over the pool, golf course & mountains. Breakfast was a self service buffet with plenty of choice. Can't wait to return again soon!

We have been staying for four weeks as guests in the hotel Bandama playing golf and enjoying the warm weather of the Canarias. The hotell is very cozy and service exellen and the staff very friendly . Rooms are not very big but enough with nice balkony and fantastic view and the cleaning service every day is one of the best we seen . The seenery from the hotel is stunning and nature around nice. Breakfast in the Golf Club is nice and also dining is fine, but if You want to eat in different restaurants maybe better to pay separat and no half pansion. It does not make any price difference. The hotel is suitable for people looking for a relaxing place. The new management is now making many new things and it will become still better. The pool could be a little warmer for me. If You want to travel from hotel a rental car is needed.

Our trip starts when we could't find the hotel because there is no signs just one "private" on the road. Be ready to go on a offroad trip, because there is no road to the hotel.
They dont have lunch or dinner, only paella on sunday at 15:00. The closest place to have some food was 2-3 km away. The breakfast was the same everyday and not big choise. one of the mornings the fruits wa finished, when i ask for more, they sayed they don't have more because is a holiday and there is no place to buy more.
They have sauna but it was not working.
The room was nice and the bed was very comfy.
The view was same as on the pictures very beautifull and peasfull.

Spectacular views of the volcano crater from the balcony, right at the golf course for a hassle free early start. Leif the owner is a golfer himself and a mine of information plus very friendly and welcoming. Cleaning is excellent and no shortage of staff. Will definitely be back.

We booked Bandama Golf hotel for its location beside the Caldera. We have a one year old baby. Web site advised that hotel catered for children and that we could reserve a baby cot. When we arrived we noted that whilst there is a tarmaced road to the golf club the road to the hotel is a very pot hole filled dirt track. This should have been our first warning. The hotel reception is nice but the rooms feel very old and cold. It was lashing rain most of the time we were there. List of complaints. Bathroom was old and slightly grubby. Shower did not work. There was no heating or air conditioning. The french doors in our room did not shut properly and let in a draught. We had to roll up a blanket and put it up against the base of the door. The pool looked like no one had swam in it in years. Breakfast was served in the golf club which is some walk away esp when you have a buggy as it is over rough terrain and up several steps. The breakfast is set up on a counter. Frankly it looked like they never had any guests. There was only one other couple around whilst we were there. There were no staff about to give any assistance. The cornflakes were stale and seemed to have been sitting out for a very long time. There was no high chair so baby had to sit in his buggy. The local golfers and indeed and staff we did set eyes on looked at us as if we were dirt. The second morning there, they didn't even both to set up the breakfast counter and asked us to have breakfast at the bar with all the smoking golfers. This was the last straw for us. We complained at the hotel. The manager was very helpful and frankly seemed to be surprised at what was going on in the golf club. Although they are in the same grounds they seem to have no connection with each other. This is no excuse esp as guests must take their breakfast in the golf club. Also they offered us a very old fashioned plug in radiator to heat the room. This was clearly unsuitable with a baby. The hotel accepted that they do not cater for children in spite of what their website says. Unfortunately we had booked and paid in advance with hotelopia (never heard of this website before but saw it on tripadvisor). Hotel said they had not received our money even though we had paid through web site some time ago. Hotel wrote us a letter saying we had had to leave two nights early due to no child facilities, awful food and no heating. It remains to be seen whether we get our money back. The hotel is a disgrace. I could not even recommend it for golfers. The other guests that were there when we were, were a golfing couple and they looked as unhappy as we did. It's a shame as the gardens around the golf club are beautiful as is the caldera.
