Really a tale of two halves. This is a magnificent old building, set in very pleasant grounds, with ample parking, and very close to the city of Bazas, which in itself is very picturesque. We were greeted warmly and shown to slightly small but very well equipped and above all very clean rooms. The room was air conditioned with a small balcony, and particularly the bathroom was of a high standard.

The staff, particularly in the bar, were helpful and friendly. English was spoken and my schoolboy French was tolerated! We enjoyed a couple of beers in the sunshine on the comfortable terrace.

We ate in the hotel restaurant and unfortunately this did not match the expectations set by the rest of the property. The amuse-bouche was quite tasteless, entrees were average at best, and the steak I was served was tough and quite tasteless. Neither of us finished our main course. The hotel needs to do much, much better in this area. The food offer is simply not good enough.

Once I got into bed it was clear that the bed had some kind of plastic mattress protector. Sure it prolongs the life of the bed but it doesn’t make for a comfortable nights sleep, for me at least.

We did not risk the breakfast, and my friend and I both noted that at no point did any of the staff ask it we had enjoyed our stay, or whether everything was good.

My recommendation - by all means stay here but please, eat in town.

The room good but restaurant food terrible. I ordered the most expensive steak with mushrooms vegetables and potatoes gratin to be cooked medium rare. Received the cheaper steak dish with onions and chips and green salad, cooked rare and cold. Told them of the mistake and they took the dish to change it and just a minute later returned with the same cold steak and salad and only had replaced the chips with reheated microwave potato gratin.
The other main course for my partner was duck which was requested without the orange sauce cooked medium rare. It arrived covered with the orange sauce and over cooked. Therefore over priced bad food not expected from a logis hotel .

Arrived at the hotel tired to a welcoming and helpful receptionist. Rooms small but clean and modern. Couldn't work how to turn on fridge. Lovely piano in the foyer to play. Gardens and surroundings lovely. Outdoor pool small but refreshing and welcome after a day's cycling. Only criticism was dinner and drinks service was slow. Ordered the beef and a little bit tough. Staff were very pleasant.

A hotel, that offers all, you need.
To come again.
Pool outside, a comfortable place and very helpful Personal.
The town Bazas offers also good places and restaurants to go.
If there should be an other necessity to pass nearby, my staying is clean.

Great hotel. Perfect location for visiting the historic monuments in the area. Pool and harman good. Room spacious with a comfy bed. But bathroom spoilt by mould around the bath sealant.

My room was perfectly adequate, clean and comfortable but I was staying alone. The room would be small for a couple. It has been renovated fairly recently so the bathroom and air conditioning were both great.

Outside restauarant/bar area is lovely to sit outside over a drink.

Other observations:
Pool is pleasant but very small, so if you want to swim lengths you will be disappointed. I would estimate about 8m long. It's fine for kids splashing about. There was confusion as to whether you could take drinks down to the pool. Some of the bar staff were adamant - no glass by the pool (there are no plastic glasses available apparently) but others would bring down trays.

Some of the older rooms have no air conditioning but cost the same price.

Hair dryer in room is the bolted-on-the wall machine kind.

Breakfast was fine but not exciting; toast, croisant, limited selection of cereals, fruit and sliced ham/cheese.

I had a good room rate as was staying as pat of a large group so had a negotiated discount rate. This made it extremely good value for me. I think the full room rate is probably less good value.

The public rooms have been recently done to a high standard, but the bedroom hasn't had any attention in years; abused paintwork, unusable drawers; bathroom had cracked tiles & mould.
Food was similarly mixed, nice starters but main courses were stone cold, one slightly better for being served on a hot plate - both went back and were microwaved, which probably spoiled them a bit. Staff friendly.

The hotel is 1960s or 70s and looks like it's not had a makeover or lick of paint since then. The staff were very pleasant but the place just looks outdated and unloved.
Lovely warm indoor pool, though.

When you arrrive here you cannot fail to be impressed with the whole look of the place. The beautiful hotel, grounds and tranquil setting is just what is needed after a long drive. The old fashioned outside is in total contrast to the room we had which was tastefully modern. The bathroom was great and everything was spotlessly clean. We enjoyed the indoor pool & spa. We only stayed one night, so we didn't have time to relax around the sunny outdoor pool as well. Dinner was outside under shades as the weather was lovely when we stayed at the end of August and altough the menu was not cheap, the food we had was delicious so worth the extra dosh! Breakfast was inside and there was plenty of choice, all good quality.
The old town was only 7 minutes walk and the cathedral is well worth a visit. Also, there was a traditional French market in the square as it was Saturday morning where there was lots of local produce on sale. I would recommend this hotel to anyone and look forward to a return sometime myself.

We (2 adults and a 2.5yr old toddler) thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The room was basic but provided everything we needed; staff couldn't have been more kind and helpful; and the location was perfect. We happened to be there during the hottest weather of the summer, so the pool and the shaded outdoor dining tables were much appreciated. Highly recommended.

Cordialement Thierry PUYFAGES Directeur
