Have visited the Bell house on 2 occasions in the last month. From the second you walk through the door your made very welcome and the room was large, very clean and plenty of storage for a traveller visiting for quite a few days
The breakfast is unbelievable the quality of the ingredients excellent and cooked to perfection. Chris went above and beyond and made me a lunch daily with excellent sandwiches and amazing fruit loaf which I’ve never liked before but I ate the lot
Plenty of safe practices put in place for the life we are now living in with hand sanitizers on every table and social distancing practices in place.
To top it off, Chris was an excellent host, with a great sense of humour and by staying open for key workers has contributed to help keep the country moving

Dear Trevor It was great to meet you. I was very lucky and had a lot of very nice people staying just like you during the covid lockdown. I am glad that you enjoyed your stay and look forward to seeing you again in the future. The money that you donated will go the local food bank. We have the local allotment and garden society selling all there excess fruit and veg in the car park next week all proceeds to the food bank. There are no village events this year so we thought we might have some music and Ken the fishmonger will be there. Every little helps. Thank you for the donation All the very best and keep safe Chris

Lovely early 1600's building with some architectural gems and a must visit. Very friendly and accommodating staff, and the owner Chris goes out of his way to make you feel very welcome as well as delivering great quality food cooked to perfection all at a very affordable price. Full English breakfast included in the price was very adequate. Everyone must do the Friday steak night! At £40 for two to include a bottle of decent and very drinkable (for a change) "house wine" you simply can't go wrong; steak cooked perfectly to request (rare to medium which most always mess up!) served with chips that were the best we have probably ever had after dining at many hundreds of different restuarants throughout the UK and Europe over the past 30+ years! The rack of baby ribs were also everything other than baby, being a very generous large portion of perfectly cooked ribs that absolutely filled the serving board. We stayed bed & breakfast for two nights over a weekend whilst visiting nearby relatives and would loved to have stayed longer. We will be back as soon as possible, and especially for steak night! Thank you.

I was attending Christian gathering at Charlton Park and needed 3 nights while my daughter camped. Chris and the team really looked after me and at £70 including a lovely breakfast I got a quiet clean room with a very comfy single bed and a super breakfast every day. I booked direct.
It is literally a place to sleep and eat breakfast as it chooses to offer nothing more.
Lots of parking and a lovely village drivable to lots of places.
My room was cleaned, tidied and replenished every day,
Not it’s not in perfect repair as it’s a very old building but it gave me a lovely nights sleep and I would stay again.

Unbelievable aggression and attitude from manager of this non-dog friendly little place.

It shares a car park with post office cafe where the staff are absolutely lovely and in complete contrast to pub.

Popped into post office for cup of tea and quick breakfast bite to eat and had my small dog with me.

Before getting back in car put dog on a lead in a grassed raised area adjacent to car park, allowed her to do ablutions prior to picking up after her.

No sign on grass area other than ‘assembly point’. It’s raised and has no seating, simply a patch of grass.

Manager of pub came screaming out of his little reception area and started yelling his head off about it being a private space and not a dog walking area!!

Slightly bizarre and frightened my little dog. Once she was finished I went in to remonstrate given the lack of signage about private space nor dogs not allowed. Plus mentioned that I was unlikely to ever return nor attempt to enter his little pub given the outburst.

Was told to FXxx Off! Charm he is not!!!

Avoid the pub and inn, although support the staff in the post office cafe who were a complete contrast to the pub manager.

Judging by other reviews I caught him on one of his many off days but it was rather unsettling and totally unnecessary.

I was obviously a cafe customer and hardly walking my dog on what is a tiny patch of green beside a busy road.

Avoid him as there are plenty of other nice local inns, most are extremely dog friendly.

All in all …bizarre!

Sadly, on arrival this hotel did not match the photos on the website when booking. It is very tired and dated and in desperate need of an update. The front of house staff were very friendly and turns out are also the chef and bar staff on certain days, he cleaner was very friendly.

We live several miles from here and thought we’d pop in for a drink on our way home ( about 9 pm on a Friday evening) we walked in through the side entrance and saw the owner sat in a chair over the other side of the room and was sternly told We are shut ! The group of four sat on a nearby table who were drinking looked incredibly embarrassed by the owners mannerism , we left and will definitely not be going there again ! We popped to the pub up the road who were so welcoming and lovely.

We enjoyed a really nice stay last weekend. The room was very clean, comfortable and quiet with ample room for us and our two children. We highly recommend the delicious breakfast. We were made to feel really welcome by the staff, particularly Chris (who spoilt the kids with chocolates and other treat) and Hollie the waitress. Its a shame the visit was so brief but we look forward to returning next time we visit the UK.

My partner and I came for dinner last night.
The fish wasn't fresh.
The beer was too cold, flat and only had 1 choice.
Service was slow, only 1 person waitressing and covering the bar, where are the rest of the staff?? Shame on you owner!!!!!
We will not be returning and certainly wouldn't recommend you to anyone.

Response from Chris Williams, General Manager at Bell House Hotel
Responded 3 Aug 2021
Dear Please accept my sincere apologies for your disappointing visit. The trials of post lockdown namely the shortage of delivery drivers and Staff catching up with their holidays does not make it easier. The fish has been sorted and there are now strict instructions not to accept substitute products from suppliers. The beer issue I have asked the engineer to look at the system. On the evening in question, we had run out of linen for the hotel. It was quiet at the time, so I started ironing 15 sets of double bed linen. I didn’t realise the time had gone so fast and hadn’t checked the bar and restaurant. It has now been discussed at great length what should be done if this should happen again in the future. I would definitely recommend a stay at The Bell House. I liked dealing with Chris, a real person, who gave the whole experience of my stay there a warm, human interaction. His human acts of thoughtfulness, kindness and generosity were very much appreciated. I'm very glad that I stayed at this hotel and not one that was part of a large corporation with a faceless, thoughtless corporate identity. It is so great to have the support of the village and the flexibility of food, that is needed in the Foodbank, to be specifically bought. It is because of people such as yourself who facilitate donations and those who kindly donate that we are able to continue to offer food parcels for those experiencing food poverty. Thank you for going above and beyond in ensuring the foodbank is restocked as needed and for kindly delivering it to us, we really appreciate it! Yours Sincerely Miriam Dann Community Support Worker

This awful hotel was booked by our company for 1 night,, the place is near derelict, shower not working properly, plug sockets not functioning, decor is awful, no food, no bar,
Nearest food 2 villages away unless we wanted local French restaurant, working away budget won’t unfortunately stretch to that,
This hotel was about £70 for the night not including breakfast.
In my opinion that was probably £50 too much. Absolute dump please avoid.

I used The Bell House for a business trip stop over, and would stay again for leisure.

Chris is a really nice guy, takes (well earned) pride in his place and has very high standards.

I honestly can’t understand some of the nasty comments on here!

Food was great and had a fabulous nights sleep
