Detailed Reviews
Booked on the Green King Promotion, we wanted a night away to celebrate a significant wedding anniversary where we could have a bit of a day trip travelling to the location and similarly meander our way home.
Hunters Hall fitted the bill, we arrived late pm the day after the new Covid restrictions had come into force, from the moment we arrived it was clear that Richard and his team we fully on top of the new enhanced requirements.
We wanted a drink and were shown into one of the bars, the service was exemplary and fully Covid secure. (The drinks were not bad either, the Greene King IPA was as good as it should be such that a second round was required to confirm the first.)
Pre new restrictions we had taken the precaution of booking a table for our meal, with the new 10pm closing time we brought our dining time forward so our meal would not be rushed/
Our room was clean and tidy and the bed comfortable, all the facilities worked and reached across the small courtyard.
Our meal was fine, service was superb and Fizz Fridays to be recommended. The attention of Marcus and Jess made our evening.
Breakfast was taken and thoroughly enjoyed.
Overall we had a relaxing stay, with good food and great service and would be happy to revisit - even with the current restrictions in place

We ate here tonight after our walk around the area, we left our car in the carpark so thought we would eat here before leaving.
Upon entering we were warmly welcomed by cloe who told us about the new rules in place such as hand sanitizer, one way systems and spoke about the app that we could order on to allow more distancing. unfortunately I didn't have my mobile on me at the time so we had a waitess come over and take our order. Shanon her name was.
Can i just say you have done a marvelous job with your way of working during this pandemic. We have been to many local restaurants in the area this being the one I felt most safest in. The food was great and well priced. The decor was old but suited for an old inn.
I left a small tip on the table and wish I had more to give but was not planning on eating out. Will definitely be returning while venturing out. I Would also be interested to know if you are open for breakfast or brunch on a Wednesday for our morning walk. Thank you again.
Kindest regards.

Had just been to visit Tetbury when we wanted to go somewhere pleasant for a drink and a bite to eat.
My friend has visited here previously and wanted to go back there to see if it had changed at all.
This was a great choice and a really good venue. When you go in you are invited to use the hand sanitiser and there was a main point that asked you to wait to be seated. The manager gave us a print out of the menu which was clearly for single use. She escorted us to a table in one of the bars. There was a one-way traffic system in place.
Ordered lunch then when I wanted to go to the Ladies I had not seen this before. When I went to the door for the Ladies Toilets, there was a Wheel of Fortune dial fixed to the door. It said Engaged, however, to change it to Vacant it asked you to use your elbow to slide the marker to Vacant. When I went to use one of the cubicles the toilet was very clean, the hand washing system was also kept very clean. On the way out you just pulled the handle to pull the door open.
I needed to pay the bill in cash so the waiting staff asked me to pay at the end bar, there were three bars in the restaurant.
Overall it was a good experience, the food was enjoyable and tasty and the restaurant was quite full.

I could not reccomend the Hunters Hall Inn. Felt like a criminal when THEIR computer didn't accept my card on line. I suggested I pay upfront and my card was fine. Food was poor. Crispy mushroom starter so obviously frozen and fried in oil that tasted like it should have been changed months ago. Signature Hunters Chicken served witha piece of gammon to sole ones shoe with. No heating on in the cold bedroom and bathroom on arrival (no apology either). Wrong drinks order - not complicated an orange juice, brought apple. WiFi requested more personal data than I'd ever been asked for before so did not feel safe to use. General attitude of staff when things pointed out was met with rolled eyes huffing, puffing and sighing. Was booked in for two nights and although I understand restrictions are inevitable on room cleaning and not making beds while in residence (at least giving the the benefit of doubt I assume this was the reason.. Cups in room were not changed, no coffee in room. Yes I did rinse out the cups myself but should I have had to paying £80 p/n? Would not go back or reccomend.

Responded 7 Oct 2020
Thank you BZR1 for your feedback, it would appear that it is not the same as numerous other reviews of late, i am happy to reply to each comment in turn. The card which you used to book the room was not able to be charged as the Worldpay token was invalid, this is in no way a fault of the Hotel, but in fact an issue with Worldpay token that was created between you and Worldpay, Payment is required upon check in which is standard Hotel policy, hence you were asked politely to make payment prior to taking up occupancy. Shortly after check in, when you raised the concern over the heating being faulty, my assistant manager returned to your room with you and turned the valve on, thus turning the radiator on. We do not turn the heating on for guests unless it is cold outside, and the temperature was high teens. I am concerned that you never brought any of the food comments up when a check back was done to your table while you were eating, but instead wait until you have vacated the hotel after 2 days and review here on Trip Adviser. The Wifi is operated by Sky and is called the Cloud. We have NO control over the Cloud WiFi and i personally tell my guests NOT to put ALL of their personal details on, but to change some of the personal information. With regards to servicing the room, during these times, we do not mingle with the guests during their stay in the Hotel, social distancing is impossible in a hotel room and your room would have been serviced during 11am and 2:30 pm should you have left the room vacant, thus not putting either you or my team at any kind of risk. I am happy to discuss anything further should you wish to contact me directly. Richard General Manager

Stayed for two nights while attending a family wedding over the road - frankly if it hadn’t been for that we probably would have left and found somewhere else. We had room 5 and were greeted by a tired and frankly filthy dirty room. It clearly had been barely cleaned as there were crumbs on the chairs, the bathroom floor and toilet had a film of grime on it, the carpet was filthy and there was a 3 foot cobweb hanging down from the ceiling over the bed! That was ignoring the layers of dirt around the carpet edges, dirty mugs, dust all over the tv and bed head, urine marks under the toilet seat and, stains on the bottom bed sheet and towels!
I asked for the room to be re cleaned on arrival and the bathroom floor had been wiped, sheet changed and a hoover done afterwards but it still wasn’t of a cleanliness level I would expect when paying £170 for two nights B&B, in the end we cleaned it ourselves! On top of that the room was in dire need of maintenance/Refurb, bathroom was old and tatty/mouldy, wallpaper peeling, windows were rotten with latches hanging off and one window didn’t even fit in the frame fully plus the ceiling above the bed was cracked and paint peeling off.
We ate in the restaurant one night and both mornings for breakfast, staff were mostly nice enough but clearly a bit overworked and food was perfectly adequate. Despite pre-booking our meals (we were a party of 20 on the Saturday night) they had run out of some of the meals - how can that be possible! They also forgot one persons meal entirely and when it came out it was half the portion of someone with the exact same meal. Breakfast was fine but they had no jam, only brown bread, ran out of pastries on Saturday and had no fruit or yoghurts available both days which is a bit laughable for a large chain where they know how many rooms are booked, frankly it struck me as cost saving tactics.
Overall I would avoid at all costs.

We booked here to attend a family wedding as the venue was across the road, therefore the only thing initially good about this place was its location. We had a lovely meal and great service in the pub from the wonderful staff on our first evening, then went back to our room which was filthy and made me want to keep my shoes on the whole time, I pulled back the covers and went to arrange the pillows to find a knotted hair ball in the bed with lots of other black bits, it was disgusting but so late at this point there was nothing I could do and having a baby meant I couldn't exactly sleep in the car. The next day we had to rush down for breakfast because staff informed us the night before that breakfast was from 7 until 9am, we had to make sure our baby was fed and sorted before getting there so we just managed to make it, to be greeted by a not so friendly member of staff who wanted to make it clear to us that she'd been waiting for us to come down for breakfast since 630am, it's not like we booked a certain time we were told between 7 and 9 but she didn't seem very happy about us arriving down at around 840am. Breakfast was OK, wasn't very big and no orange juice available unfortunately. We then went to speak to the manager to ask for a refund for our second and last night, as I refused to stay there any longer and had already made a booking elsewhere at around 2am because I couldn't sleep due to the stress of the room making me feel so dirty and uncomfortable. The manager was nice but felt he was quite defensive about our complaint saying that he'd only taken over a few months back and because our family had collected the keys and ok'd the rooms prior to our arrival, but they were only quickly checked as it wasn't until we spent a bit of time in the room after we ate that we got to see it for ourselves. The manager also said that although the rooms are dated that it should not effect the cleanliness of the rooms which I agreed with, but there was no excuse for the room to be dirty regardless of the decor being extremely old and he probably didn't check them himself once cleaned. He asked the issues so that he could make improvements so we made him aware of the problems but didn't really seem to sympathise, however he did agree to refund our second night so we could pay the next hotel we were going to, I didn't feel right asking for my money back for the first night even though I was extremely unhappy with it, because I couldn't find any information on their website regarding a refund policy, neither have I ever had to complain or ask for a refund or even book somewhere else, this hotel was the worst I've ever had to experience. I was also able to see 4 other rooms whilst we were there due to family members having rooms to and none were up to a standard I would have been happy with, especially the family room. I would not recommend the accommodation, however the pub experience we had on the evening was lovely including the food.

Responded 17 Apr 2022
Hi Kastay, I am so sorry that your room was not up to standard, as soon as you made me aware, I wanted to rectify the issue and make things better, and I did feel I was sympathetic once you made me aware, as I would have happily refunded you both nights if you had not been happy with the room or found alternative accommodation nearby at one of our other hotels. I am very passionate about my job and always do my best to ensure everyone has a fantastic time when they stay or visit here. I was dismayed that there were any issues, as I had got my housekeeping staff to clean all the rooms thoroughly and they were double checked by our supervisors, to give your party peace of mind when you all arrived, and when you did they had inspected them and been happy with the cleanliness of each room. I apologise if the breakfast waitress was in any way rude, I will be speaking to her regarding the points you have raised. However, I am glad you had a great time with us when you came for a meal that evening, and I am glad that part of your visit was pleasurable.

We stayed here for 2 nights as we were attending a wedding at the Matara Centre across the road. The bedrooms are in a separate building to the reception and pub/ restaurant. We had expressly requested an en-suite bath and were put in room number one which is next to an entrance to several rooms. Unfortunately this meant that after the wedding from 12.15am for about an hour we heard people coming back from the wedding, chatting loudly outside and going to their rooms. A table and chairs just outside our bedroom window meant that smokers tended to congregate there.
The room was small but potentially adequate. It was a little tired and could do with a few repairs or refurbishment. There were cobwebs around the lamp but otherwise it looked generally clean. The lavatory was difficult to flush and had to be pumped several times to flush.
The room itself was potentially adequate but the main reason for the poor review was that on the day of the wedding there was no hot water for either a bath or shower! Unfortunately I had got in the bath thinking the water would heat up and had got my hair wet! The water was not even warm. As my hair was wet I thought I would shower but there was no hot water from the shower either! I therefore had a cold bath and cold hair wash.
After I had got dried and dressed I went to reception to complain. The woman on reception said "I don't know where he is, I will have to find him and get back to you." I assumed she was referred to the manager. Shortly afterwards the ? manager came to our room and ran the taps to check the water was cold. He also checked a bedroom upstairs which did not have hot water either. It turned out the boiler had failed and the manager said it would be a 4 hour call out. This is the point where I expected him to refund us in some way but he did not. He did offer us to move room but to a room without a bath. We did not take up this offer as we had expressly requested a bath, we had unpacked all our clothes and my partner had ironed his shirt ready for the wedding.I was now fully dressed and we had a wedding to go to!
The WiFi was extremely poor.
We had one evening meal and two breakfasts which were ok. My partner had the full English breakfast and said the sausages were hard and overcooked.
A positive point about this hotel is that an iron an ironing board were provided in the wardrobe. However the wardrobe was too short to hang up a long dress.
This hotel is overpriced for what it is. Premier Inn's are far superior and much cheaper.
As this hotel appears to be in the middle of nowhere it is unlikely that we would need to return to this area so we will not need to return to this hotel.

This place can please and disappoint in a heartbeat and we were never sure which would be next. After a bit, we became a little "on edge", mentally flinching in anticipation of the next minor letdown.
We stayed 3 nights and ate in for all 3. Our room on night one was horrendous. The replacement room was good. Breakfast excepted (which was excellent all round!), we had some patchy experience in the dining room too with the wrong things arriving and items not arriving at all. The restaurant menu offers a wide choice - subject to unpredictable "stockouts" - and food quality is good.
What really does stand out is the friendly and helpful staff who, without exception, guide you over the bumps in the road with their positive attitude, goodwill and rapid effective corrective action. The value for money is good too in an area which can be pricey. Because of the excellent staff, this place is worth a visit. The visitor is more likely to only remember the good bits because of them.

My friend and I went to visit a friend and chose to stay at Hunters Hall Inn. The room was beautiful, comfortable, cosy and very clean. Each morning a member of staff knocked and offered to refresh the room, and they were all COVID-19 compliant. The staff were brilliant and accommodating and also very friendly to chat to and gave great advice on what there was to do in the surrounding area. The food was delicious, I highly recommend the nachos and the steak, and again, the service was brilliant. I would happily stay here again.

We have stayed here a few times over the years on our trips to Gloucestershire without leaving the review that they deserve (apologies!). This ‘inn’ (I think of it more as a hotel with a good bar and tasty Greene King ales) always delivers an excellent stay with a good selection of food and drinks. The staff are charming and there is always a smile and a cheery greeting for us on arrival and then from each staff member as we work our way through the maze of characterful public rooms. The tidy double rooms are always comfortable with quality mattresses and linen, showers are hot and work well. A special mention has to go to the morning breakfasts (all tasty local produce) which are well cooked and presented, they are always sufficient to tide us over to our evening meal. Overall, it is an excellent stay-over for us on our travels and we are always pleased to return to the Hunter’s Hall the next time round.
