Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This motor camp come holiday park is a New Zealand classic.
There is space for tents camper vans or you can stay in simple units with basic facilities but comfortable.

Its just a short walk to the beach which is another story.

Rooms are nicely decorated. The staff were pleasant, and helpful and the hotel spotlessly clean and well equipped. Their service was truly exceptional and the entire staff was very attentive to our needs. Would visit Hydrabad again. Bed is very comfortable...
Staff is very nice..helpful..

This is a lovely place to stay, an older park, but the atmosphere and the people were so friendly. We had a lovely walk through the local forest and then went down to the beach, which is only a 7 min walk from the park. The beach is beautiful and well worth a visit.

The Campsite is clean and tidy and the owners/managers are very friendly. But the amenities are VERY tired. I stayed in a cabin that was freezing cold. There was a very old, small heater that either did not work or was just too small. Dishes, cutlery, 2 small cooking pots, a toaster, a kettle and an electric frying pan is supplied. Bedding, blankets and pillows are not supplied. It was a bad night due to the foam mattress that was too thin so it was like sleeping on wooden slats. I had to buy bottled water as the camp water looked like urine. With water like that you don’t even want to have a shower.

The one positive thing about this campsite is a beautiful, almost beach location, but only if you have the luxury of a bigger camper van with full kitchen, shower/toilet.
The whole site is very tired and would never pass a health & safety inspection, I assume they don't employ cleaners for communal facilities because the old toilets were disgusting, the shower floors rotting, rusty old sink taps and a solitary old hand dryer that died after 2 uses!
The kitchen equipment was so outdated, with cobwebs on toasters/kettle from lack of use (understandably) tap water was yellow.
Microwave worked but door button broken exposing interior spring, unfit and unsafe for purpose!
Covid scanner signs were too old and faded to scan.

Yet the site was full, mainly with permanent caravans, cabins, there were small newish looking cabins on site for beautiful friendly people from the Pacific islands, working on local farms.
The playground equipment was very old and in need of repair, rotting wood, rusty metal.
Such a shame to see a place so run down when they are clearly making enough money.
My stay, in a small campervan, in a non-powered area was $30.

Response from Deborah Nichol, Owner at Hydrabad Holiday Park

Hi Mary, unsure exactly where you stayed but first of all the price would only have been $30 a night if you had a child with you (which you don’t mention) our prices are $20 per adult and $10 per child per night. If you had come and asked about the water we would’ve explained that we don’t have reticulated water here at the beach so our water comes from the ground and does through a two step filtration filter system. The colour of the water is NOT crystal clear but it is not yellow either. The showers and toilets are due for an upgrade ✅ and this will be done when we are not full and busy. The playground is all but brand new, built less than two years ago with a new fort that has two brand new slides, a baby swing, new nest swing etc. There is ZERO rotting wood in the entire playground. It is hard to have cobwebs on kitchen appliances that are used every day by the lovely Samoan boys who are currently still staying here. The old faded covid scan pages are replaced monthly, that’s how quickly they fade and by the way there are MULTIPLE places around the camp with covid scanning pages and most are in 100% better state than the one you pictured. It’s nice to know that you seem to think we are “making enough money” how the heck would you know?? Do you pay my bills??? For others reading this review, please come and visit us and see for yourself. As for Mary, it’s a shame we won’t see you back here again but I’m sure we will survive 😃 Have a blessed day 😊

We had such a great stay at the camp grounds. The cabin was perfect for our dog racing weekend. Cosy and clean and the camp staff were so kind, we didn't arrive until late and it was no problem. So happy

Many permanent caravan sites, almost all deserted mid-week. All well maintained adding to the character of this old style holiday park. Facilities well cared for too with an exciting play area for younger children. Dog friendly. Interesting walks nearby. A good stroll to the beach, grocer, cafe and fish and chips store.
We loved the peaceful, relaxed atmosphere and will certainly return for a longer stay.
